As an alum of Prairie View’s arch rival Texas Southern, they have come a looooong way since the losing streak. I remember when it was pretty much a guaranteed win for us when we played them in our annual game The Labor Day Classic. That all changed in 2004 when they beat us for the first time since 1988. We’ve only beat them 3 times since then. The good news is we still lead the all time series 44-31-1. They’d have to win the next 13 in a row to tie us. The bad news they won the last 6 in a row.

So the thing about pv is that after the legendary hbcu coaches started to retire and segregation ended. There was no one that could pull talent away from the big schools. Billy nicks was able to keep talent coming because of his name and Alot of the hs coaches played for him. But when he retired, pv just couldn't pull the talent anymore. Pretty much why hbcus aren't bigger now. Bigger schools simply have more money and recognition. But the swac conference is hotter than its ever been right now.

I remember reading Rick Reilly's SI article about the "Battle of the Bands" between Prairie View and Southern. I also recall my own alma mater selling T-Shirts that said "Football Team undefeated since 1909," though this is only due to the fact that they haven't had a football team since the school was founded.

I knew it. When I saw the title, I was like “It’s Prarie View”.

Great video I live in SEC/ SWAC country (BatonRouge LA). I remember those prairie view teams of the 90s quite well and it was nice to see them finally win a game . Thanks for showing love to the hbcus

The worst Football College team isn't something you want to be a part of... but, in a few years, the guys will be pleased to talk about the "good old days" [I am a former Collegiate athlete. It was the best years of my life].

Those players would be triggered by their peers if they said anything about that. But it was a long road for that football team.

The worst college football team for one game was Cumberland in 1916 when they played Georgia Tech and lost 222-0. The players were considered heroes by the school because they saved the college from bankruptcy.

Gotta give it up to the band standing up in a situation where stereotypically they would be embarrassed. Cant think of any college bands that could make such a claim.

Most college bands nowadays are actually pretty proud of anything they do, ESPECIALLY HBCU Bands because they really are the selling point of their football games quite often.

I remember when ESPN was doing their Who's #1 series and when they got to the worst teams, PVAM was naturally number 1. All I remember is there was a montage of the coach on the sidelines yelling "Awwww maannnn!"

Being from a small town in the mountains of North Carolina, I'm reminded of t-shirts we wore in my High School's marching band in the 2000s... "The Western Carolina University Football Team will be performing before and after The Pride of the Mountains Catamount Marching Band."

It was great to learn the history of the team. Just went to their football camp a few weeks ago and it’s interesting learning how much struggle the team has been through.

I remember when I was stationed at Andrews AFB reading USA Today sports sections on the one day they printed EVERY team's results in Division 1-A and 1-AA and noticing Prairie View and their utter futility. Saying they were bad was a massive understatement - they were getting carpet bombed and destroyed each and every week. I loved looking up their result each week just to see who annihilated them that week. When they got close to a win a few times I had to wonder just how bad that team was to nearly lose to Prairie View.

We had daily doubles every summer. You practiced 2.5 hours, then you got a 45 min dinner break, and then you practiced another 2.5 hours. It was summer, so it was hot AF! I remember people throwing up and quite literally shitting themselves. Many schools did this with their football programs.

I got a video suggestion, the 2003 Norfolk State Spartans football team, a team that its coach calls a retirement to play okedoke and leave for another team, a head coach with 0 experience and its team that gave up over 500 points in the last 10 games of the season alone, goes 1-11 (worst season ever) and also got NCAA sanctioned for having practices that went too long and even better yet a car chase that went violent behind the campus while campus was going on. All facts.

Northwestern, in the midst of that losing streak, used to play Iowa for homecoming. Iowa waxed them on a regular basis. The Northwestern student section had a cheer that went like this: Hey, Hey! It's okay! We're gonna own your farm someday! That was because of Northwestern's superior academics, but terrible football.
