Most of these cars are long gone from the roads, and many had sold in large quantities, so it’s pretty amazing that there were such low levels of death and serious injury. Many in the automotive industry are now asking if the ‘tests’ are truly reflective of real accidents.

I was in the back seat of a 59 Ford during a head on at about 15 mph, there were no serious injuries(the other car was another full sized car) in either car-just a few minor bruises-0 the Ford was rebuilt and soldiered on for a decent number of years-no one was wearing seat belts as there weren't any.

Many of these are for offset frontal impacts. These tests were not a requirement at the time, it was the insurance institute, not a government department, that pushed for them. These videos were part of their media campaign. Cars like the Pontiac Trans Sport had no difficulty passing front barrier impact tests, but were not designed to survive the offset test designed by the Insurance Institute which many at the time considered unrealistic.

Only the little clip at the end shows the same impact at different speeds, and clearly the best safety feature ever, is not speeding. People drive like they know safety tests are done and they've got them covered. Just take any modern car and crash it at 90mph and just watch how anybody in it would be just as dead as in any old car. In the US it is even worse due to trucks having an exemption for the most thorough kinds of crash testing (and also don't have to comply to the highest pollution standards) That should mean they could be made much cheaper, but instead the car companies put this money in their own pockets by simply making more profit for themselves. These cars though, have become the face of a nation now, where it isn't even safe any more to be in a normal vehicle, due to them not being crash compatible.

The Trans Sport was never sold as an Opel, it was sold in Europe as a "Chevrolet" Trans Sport or a Pontiac Trans Sport, depending on the country. You're thinking of the Opel Sintra which was based on the successor of these vans, the Chevrolet Venture and Pontiac Montana (there were also Oldsmobile and Buick versions). However, the Opel used entirely different drivetrains and some of these components impacted on the behaviour in the EuroNcap tests.

Wait a moment! The Mercedes C-Class was one of the safest vehicles of its time! You can also see this very clearly in the test. The vehicle cell remains stable, does not collapse as in other vehicles and the airbag also contributes to survival. The fact that "Driverix" portrays this vehicle as unsafe shows that this person either simply has no idea or is deliberately misrepresenting the facts. Both are dishonest!

This is why firemen and rescue units always need heavy-lifting hydraulic jacks and cutters: On all accidents, the vehicle passenger frame bucked in such a way that it's impossible to open the interlocked foors. Pretty bad situation if the spilled fuel catches fire and engulfs the wreck. Surviving an impact is one thing, but the consequence and aftermath are another matter.

The Euro NCAP ‘20 Years Apart’ demonstration is actually a really poor choice of vehicle with the Rover 100…That’s a car which was released in 1980 and structurally was the same car underneath when it was discontinued in the late 1990s - it was just ‘face-lifted’ few times and had airbags added…It was horrendously outdated by the time it’s production run ended and was basically a death trap even in 1998. It’s more like 35 - 40 years apart in car safety developments.

The funny thing is that only a small percentage of crashes happen at such low speeds that tests are performed. The vast majority happen at much higher speeds. I'm glad Fiat is out of the American market. Those little cars are death traps for teenagers. That VW Santana crash was devastating!

Let me give you some news. Fiat is sold on the US market. Only the name is changed for the American market. If it is difficult for you to find out, leave me a message and I will give you the name under which you can buy Fiat in the USA

I guess you are American I have to tell you and everyone else that some cars were named flying coffins but not the ones you think of....the real dangers were Peugeot 205 GTI,VW Golf GTI ,Renault super 5 GTI,Fiat uno Turbo 1st series....they were too powerful (120-140HP)and too light (1ton or little more)Many teenagers new driving licensed could buy with then laws....in 80s and 90s it was a mass slaughter ... At least in Italy ....Now laws don't allow you to drive a under 95Hp if you got your license at least 3 yrs before....

The 2001 F-150 and the 2000 Dodge Neon showed in the video are literally as safe as the Seicento lol. Even there you have the collapse of the front passenger side strut. Only difference Is that a Seicento is so slow that it becomes safe because you simply cant reach high speeds easily.

Do not make mixed videos. Some of those were not standard crash tests but very high speed collisions with even extra load added. So, no "like" to videos like this. They just irritate.

The unsafer the car, the most careful they are driven. The most accidents happen with fast safe cars.

This video really sucks. First of all even though it's only one year old, the cars tested are 25yrs old or older. Secondly most of these vehicles were never sold in the U.S. or even heard of, like WTF. Thirdly it's like a 12yr old did the editing and glued this video together with no sound, some sound, music in odd places, just a horrible job. How you ended up with 2K of thumbs up is a worldly mystery. I'm surprised I wasted time leaving comments. I will avoid any future Driverix videos for sure.
