Season 2, Episode 11 - "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish". A somewhat darkly-comedic opening sets up one of the most pathos-driven episodes the show has ever produced when Homer is led to believe he has eaten improperly prepared Fugu, and as such has only 24 hours to live. Honestly, seeing Marge shatter internally but try to hold it together for the kids is heart-wrenching every time, and the ending sequence where Homer sits in the living room looking at the sunrise as he believes he has but minutes left gets me every time.

As a drummer myself, it bugged me to see Bart playing the wrong drums than on the soundtrack. But what bothered me more is that they never wanted to expand on Bart’s drumming talents so they had that injury happen. It would have been great to see Bart grow like that.

Lisa's jealousy does make sense for her character though. I remember in the episode with Alyson Taylor she got jealous of the girl who was smarter than her. Lisa doesn't like being outperformed because she places high value in herself.

Or the episode where Maggie passed an IQ test and she became a genius, much younger than Lisa, so Lisa became so jealous she ran away from home until it was revealed that Lisa was telling Maggie all the answers to the test. then she was super happy that Maggie was no longer considered as a genius and to be the only genius in the family. All though I personally think that Maggie is much smarter than Lisa if we take into account all of the shit she does in secret 😂 like the time she saved homer all on her own (with the dog) from another town.

Well, no - can you blame her? Imagine dreaming of becoming a musician for your entire life, practicing all the time, and then your sibling who's put in almost no work just picks it up and is better than / overshadowing you? I doubt you could say you wouldn't be jealous or feel a little resentful, even as you celebrate your sibling's success.

@@x0cx102 Understandable, I feel bad for both kids and blame Marge for unintentionally guilt tripping Bart since Lisa was only sad about animals dyng. Marge is a good parent and person in most episodes but has her own flaws. Nobody in the episode is a bad guy but Marge and Homer aren't the best parents in the episode.

This has nothing to do with the video, just a story from my first year on drumline I got reminded about. (Skip if you like) I originally played sax for the marching band and enjoyed it, figured I’d stay there throughout High-School. Then I met some chill people in the drumline cause they stood behind me in a set and messed with me. At this point they are pretty much my brothers. Well we had a percussion class, and I thought perfect time to learn. I went through the class one year only working on snare (thought it was the coolest). Didn’t get in that year but I wasn’t giving up yet. I tried again next year, learning more than just the snare music and technique. I was told we needed someone who would be at the school longer to be on snare, and also someone large to carry bass 5 (thrilled about this but also downed). The year goes on and finally we get to tuning the drums. Out of all the “lessons” I had with my friends we were just on pads so I never thought about tuning. I tried to tune the bass drum low enough but couldn’t reach the note without taking a lug off so i asked for help. “You de-tuned both sides of the drum right?” Made more sense why it sounded like i was hitting a tire. Moral of the story, make sure if you have a non-percussion friend join you, teach them everything and hopefully save them 15 minutes and embarrassment.

I wouldn't have stuck band gigs on drum kit later in life, on which I'm largely self learned, if I hadn't learned timpani (particularly how to tune them) in school concert band.

for all 4 years i've marched trumpet and then mellophone this year, i tried out for winter drumline because i've always had a soft spot in my heart for the snare drum, like there's something about it that i've been drawn to. for 1-2 years i've been practicing on a pad and this year i felt i was ready to try out for winter drumline. well i kinda embarrased myself at audition camp cuz i didnt know how to play a lot of the exercises. most of that practice was just noodling around playing random stuff. i have decent chops but i cant read snare music to save the life of me moral of the story if ur a wind player trying to get into drumline, start off w the basics first tbh

Oh man this brings memories of my own life and makes me really grateful for reconstructive surgeons. When I was ten, when I was deep into piano and a year away from getting into percussion, I fell into a plate glass window and lacerated my left wrist terribly. I could see between the two bones in the arm. The entire ulnar nerve was severed, that alone would ruin my hand; now that's nerve damage. The falling glass also totally severed the tendon that controls lateral wrist motion, and nicked the one to my middle and ring fingers; probably the two main tendons any kit drummer needs for tight snare control, and would've lost finger motion for piano. With incredible luck the artery was missed by under a millimeter, the glass pretty much just scraped over it after cutting a good 3rd of the way through my wrist, and the severed tendon did *not* retract up towards my shoulder. I happened to live in a city with a top children's hospital and the next day was ready for surgery to repair the inner bits. If not for the surgeon they brought in, who reconnected the nerve and tendons with very minimal scaring tension and no loss of feeling whatsoever. I would never have even played drums, which are a part of me, my piano career would've been cut short and my whole life would be altered, I can't really imagine one without making music. TL;DR they should've got Bart a better surgeon.

Metalocalypse is mindblowing in terms of how much effort was put into such a willfully silly project. They could've put in 1/10th as much work and it would've been just as successful, but for some reason they made an absolute timeless masterpiece.

The one thing that infuriated me about this episode is that, when Bart’s arm was broken, he used someone else’s arm to show he’s still good to play drums, and it’s NEVER REVEALED who that arm belongs to, not even in a deleted scene! It still haunts me to this day.
