The Worst Excuse For Content! ASA

The deco box is a base object to be skinned, it's how the weapon rack works. It's not content to be used by itself. It's for cosmetic skinning only. And to rant about it for minutes when you don't even know what it is is not a good look. You put the medium size box on the wall and then you can skin it as the weapon rack. The Mickey/Minnie skins (and the glass wall skin for buildings) are *examples* of custom cosmetic skins on characters. They are not a "content offering" in that that's all you can do it with it, folks. They are merely there to demonstrate how complete the change to character look can be, including animations. It's now up to modders and content creators outside of the studio to use the custom cosmetic Framework to go nuts and make skins for characters, Dinos, guns, buildings, whatever. Come April 1st, because the skinning framework is separate from modding, they will *download automatically from the server*, without the players having to download and install the mod beforehand. And what do you mean, "instead of fixing it"? There was a *huge* patch in the last couple days that *included* fixing the single player save option. It's fixed! Go read the patch notes! There's over 50 bugs patched in that one update.

I run my own server on my own physical server and my server has never crashed yet since day 1, and I have to say all the issues we had in the beginning are gone at this point. My server has Xbox players on it also - I'm on pc and to everyone that I play with, we do not understand your issues because we do not seem to have them! The skins thing was just set up to help show the different things you can do with it. I, for one, would love to sit down and port the tek saddles into skins and make them usable, so I'm happy with this being set up, cheers!

I've worked in gamedev for nearly 10 years and I can affirm that if a Level Designer even used one of those Cubes in the world, they're liable to get fired for unprofessional content in their work. How the hell did someone "OK" using a Primitive Object asset with an engine default material as a valid MOD?????? And Mickey and Minnie???? COME ON!!! I have absolutely zero interest in anti-thematic mods being used and would nuke my own builds and exit a server forever if someone came running up to me lookin like that. I've left games before for the way they let mods ruin the theme of their game and I'll do it again. The TicTacToe table is cool. I think it's a good start because now the game mechanics are there to add more tabletop games. I actually wouldn't be too miffed about sitting down at a table in the game and playing a game of MTG or Gwent lol

I think you’ve missed the point of the decor box. Why would they waste time on something that you’re only supposed to see for a few seconds before you put a skin on it? I think they need a little grace. Although, I do agree, I hate the Steamboat Willie stuff. It’s just not Ark.

@@GameChanger_Games It’s a little strange. First you have to die in order to get the skins in your cosmetics tab. Then you hover over the structure one, and a little menu will pop up with the option to turn it into the tic tax toe table, then the weapon rack, then the party lamp, and finally back to just the structure symbol. Once you e dejected which one you want, you hit the use button in it and place it over the structure you want to change (multi-directional lamp for the light, table for the tic tac toe table, and medium decor box for the weapon rack). At least that’s how it works on PS5.

Imagine Ark 2, and ALL these problems on ASA. I sure hope they fix up ASA instead of bringing Ark 2. Sacrificing Ark2 to fix up ASA would be worth it. They NEED to forget about getting and starting Ark 2 and keep get their $#!T together and FIX ASA.

I'm really frustrated with ASA now too, especially that it keeps crashing, but just fyi I watched a video of Jeremy explaining the new cosmetics system to modders, and apparently the "decor block" isn't really for the players (that's why they gave it no collision, so it couldn't be misused I guess) it's intended as a generic decor piece that modders can code to be whatever kind of decor they want. Apparently this will make it simpler to add decor to the game. By making the decor be essentially a variant of an item that already exists in the game, instead of having to add an entirely new item. I don't know why it had to be an engram that's accessible to players, like couldn't they put it in the game but hide it from the engrams list? But anyway, apparently there is a purpose for it and it's not just them adding unaltered unreal assets to the game for no reason.

Completely agree what even is that box.... to me they have been trying to follow the minecraft route, putting custom skins into the game similar to Skin dex, and adding all of these mini games into the worlds, similar to when minecraft added all of their extra custom games that made the game pretty popular among streamers and just people in general. I fear they are not going the route of "lets keep our main players and add to them over the years with upgrades after we fix the main issues." and its more of "lets add these new things to bring in new players which will fund the game and bring new interest since people can only buy the game once its better to bring new players in with cool ideas."

This update has apparently "fixed" the cryopods as well. (And i say that completely sarcastically.) I threw out a maturing Glaucus about 25 times to change the "imprint requirement", but it was Superior Kibble every time. Wildcard- "If it ain't broke, give us a minute!"

848 Hrs in ASA so far and I'm struggling to log in and just keep my base and dinos from despawning. So sick of the constant crashes weak content, sick of the nerf this nerf that meta. Tired of the lets just let modders make our game work and better and say we did it. Only play official and dinos never spawn, constant game crashes, server disconnects, and crap render distance.

I tried to play ASA on one of my servers last week. I crashed (no lie) 10 times, in about 2.5 hours. So far I've played 37 hours of Enshrouded and 47 hours of Palworld. Guess how many times those games crashed for me? Go on, guess. NONE. That's how many times. Even though they are also early access. They are actually playable, and actually fun.

You've missed the point you just gotta respawn then place them on the decor boxes and those decor boxes aren't meant to be displayed you literally place it for like 2 seconds while I do agree they should focus on maps rather than cosmetics its still fun content like couches gun racks and the 100 hats and for the steamboat willy thing you do realise you can just not download the mods and you wont see the skins their character and item will just look normal

Official server i play on still crashes 3 or 4 times a day have a feeling custom cosmetics will only make it worse. This update is very disappointing. It's this simple for me and that decor box is fitting because it sums up ark in its current state. The core game of ark is a broken, boring mess that looks pretty just like that box it will look good with skins on it but still crap underneath.

What made you think this game, which was early access would be 100% upon release. It took years for the maps to come out in the first place. Ever time something is added something is going to break, because they were forced to release it before it was ready. I do agree they should fix it, but they'd have to stop adding anything and nobody wants that.

Honestly your not completely wrong, it's a reaction video to what has been in my opinion a disappointing update, your right tho, I still can't get the box to work, unsure if its an Xbox thing or not but for me it's still just a useless box. As far as what do I care how they look, I care because as a system it shows a lack of care, and clearly been built in haste, I care because that design shows that they don't. I get that it's a place holder for a skin, but I still feel that's no excuse to deliver such a shoddy asset. It's not just a box, it's a symbol of a lack of care, effort and the quickest possible way to impliment a system that is essentially a farm for sub par content that is about to be spewed out onto the game. I also care because, yes a skin can be placed on it, but again I may be wrong here but if I don't have that mod installed, all I'm gonna see is that awful box, so yes, unless I install every piece of content vomit this system is about to produce I will be seeing that box alot.

What platform are you on? This was a reaction to first seeing what they put in the game, not a guide on how to use them. Wether they are meant to have a skin on them or not they are cheaply made and look awful. Also... People who don't have the mod installed or are playing on a different platform will see the box instead of the skin that is placed on it.
