@@Chris-ql9bu the paddock garage's there just not enough of them and that's not an easy thing to change. Mercedes red bull and Ferrari have 3 garage spaces between them. Then the TV production team has one plus other team's have two. Some long term f1 tracks have just built new garage's just for f1 that not used any other time of the year by any other race series. It's a shame that the barriers to entry are so high for F1 now. It's always going to be a team being bought out and rebranded. Haas being the last new entry in 2016. While I don't like to see chancers just showing up it would be nice to see new teams on the grid. A 24 car grid would be fantastic to see again.

@@Rand0mContnt He did. In essence, what happened then, was that original drivers for AMF were Caffi and Bertaggia, however the massive mismanagement of AMF caused them to be refused entry in South Africa, with FIA claiming they did not register (in which they were right) and then came to Mexico with an actual entry, but without cars, which were not yet finished. Caffi and Bertaggia were legitimately criticising the terrible preparation, causing Sasseti to fire both of them and replacing them with Moreno and McCarthy (who at the time didn't have Super license and couldn't race (couldn't pre-qualify to be exact) in Brazil, untill FIA took mercy and kind of gifted him one). But then Bertaggia came to Sassetti with bunch of sponsorship money, so Sassetti wanted to drop McCarthy to take Bartaggia back, but FIA, due to his shenanigans with drivers wouldn't allow it. It seems that Sassetti then simply try to get rid of McCarthy whatever way he could, hoping that if McCarthy left team or was injured, he could petition FIA to let him take Bertaggia (and his sponsorship money) back.

The '95 Simtek was actually a decent car and Verstappen Sr. (on loan from Benetton) flirted with the points positions in it once or twice. Had they the money to run the car for the season, and reliably, they'd have probably scored a couple of points.

Simtek occasionally feels like they're cursed. The first actual Simtek car was the Andrea Moda in 1992, which they designed for BMW before selling to Moda when that fell through. Widely agreed to be a great chassis with an atrocious team and engine. In 1994 they entered themselves and immediately suffered one driver being maimed and another being killed in freak accidents and were saddled again with an awful engine and reliability from dodgy X-trac gearboxes. Again, really good car but everything else let them down. In 2010 they tried again with Manor/Marussia and were once again dogged by financial instability, awful X-trac gearboxes and two freak accidents that lead to the deaths of their drivers. Let's put that in perspective - not only have 3 of the last 4 fatalities for someone driving an F1 car been at the wheel of Simtek designed cars but the only Simtek running team that _didn't_ suffer one was Andrea Moda, and they all but actively tried to get Perry McCarthy killed. I'm not sure what supernatural being they upset but clearly it has a grudge.

Automobiles Gonfaronnaises Sportives (AGS) was also one of those plucky small teams. Would have expected to see Onyx / Moneytron make the cut (thanks to Van Rossem), but their performance was a bit too good perhaps

I wonder what madness took Peter Monteverdi to buy into the team. Yes, he helped the Foiteks, but he crashed his own finances in the process... he had to sell all those lovely cars he owned in my home town.

IIRC Pacific's big turnaround in form for its second and last season was primarily because they bought and entered what was going to be the 1995 Lotus.

Did you know Roberto Moreno finished 3rd in the 2000 CART championship? Ahead of drivers such as Kenny Brack, Paul Tracy, Hélio Castroneves, Michael Andretti, Juan Pablo Montoya, Cristiano da Matta, Patrick Carpentier, Christian Fittipaldi, Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanaan? He was only 19 points behind series champion Gil de Ferran.

A little note on Roberto Moreno at Monaco in the Moda: That was in a Judd GV. The GV was underpowered but reliable. Just see what the Scuderia Italia did in 1991 when they got on track. It also was the basis for two endurance engines called the GV 4L and GV 5L, which are different from the GV in that the GV 4L is a 4 liter engine while the GV a 3.5 liter... I let you guess the cubic capacity of the 5L :P The GV was a bit of a benchmark in LMP1 and been reused in historic cars and boss gp because it's reliable, cheap, and give about the same power as engine from the early 1990s... Moda broke that engine in 11 laps at Monaco (not an engine heavy racetrack).
