He wasn't bad but I hated how they just slapped on the "corrupted by power" backstory and not really fleshing out the character. And also he just felt like a children's cartoon villain. Where he would show up at random times cause chaos and dipped after he had enough and his destruction had a pint but I hate how we only.got to see him fight and wreck stuff

1. Flag-Smasher -- Really just an all-round horribly-written character 2. Malekith the Accursed -- Devoid of any kind of personality or charisma 3. Kaecilius -- A bland waste of one of the finest villain actors in modern cinema 4. Taskmaster -- Reduces one of the coolest Marvel villains to a gimmick with no depth 5. Najma -- Just very meh as a main antagonist Honourable mention is Kro; actually a pretty cool villain for most of the movie, but ends up being a dud who basically just acts like a d*ck for the sake of it (Ikaris is an underrated baddie though)

Both of the BW villains sucked. Taskmaster was the more disappointing one since he's cool in other material (like the PS4 Spider-Man game), but the latter actually made me angry at how boring and emotionless he was most of the time.

Jude Law was the worst villain in my opinion. He kept trying to tell captain Marvel to stop using her superpowers and just fight me with your hand-to-hand combat.. It's worse than that though cause he kept saying control yourself. It was like he was like he was trying to tell captain Marvel to control your powers and don't just let it get out of hand but if you watch the movie you can tell that captain Marvel never has a problem controlling her powers. Especially the very last time he tries to fight captain Marvel. He looks at captain Marvel and it says control yourself be smarter than this or some stupid s*** like that what basically means don't use your superpowers against me. Captain Marvel then just takes 2 seconds to shoot a proton blast. I'm watching that thinking why would you not want to use that power to just avoid the fight altogether which is what captain Marvel did by shooting Jude Law with a proton blast. I was going to point out that the inhibitor chip that Jude Law put on captain Marvel's neck didn't really seem to do anything. We saw at the very beginning of the movie she was perfectly capable of still using her powers against Jude Law so I don't understand what it was for.

Out of all the bad villains, the Flag Smashers cling to my brain like a mouth sore. These guys are the pinnacle example of how not to write revolutionaries in fiction. The MCU has had a trend of making antagonists out of "revolutionary-type" characters, I guess, to give them surface-level sympathetic qualities, but the only one I've seen actually work so far was Thanos (Infinity War only, no Thonos) with Killmonger being a close second. The big problem with these characters in Hollywood media is that the writers will notice that there's nothing actually terrible about their villain from a motivation standpoint, so they'll pull the "If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten!" trope where the antagonist who doesn't seem evil will do some evil thing for flimsy reasons or none at all to sell to you, the viewer that they're the villain and deserve the position. (For example, The Legend of Korra actually pulls this at some point with each of its main villains and I'm talking all four of them, but back to Marvel.) Thanos, for example, wants to end universal hunger, so his solution is to wipe trillions of people from existence. The writers couldn't even bother to go more in depth and have him make his case to the heroes and the Avengers to Thanos because maybe if they did like with Starlord T'Challa in What If..? he'd stop being a bad guy. 😂 I'm only willing to forgive this one because IW Thanos was just that well written to actually complain about this. Killmonger wants to help oppressed peoples by giving them the means for liberation and sees that Wakanda has those means while shutting itself off to the rest of the world. Sounds noble enough, but of course, he's a troubled soul who's bad to women and consumed by vengeance. Because why not? 😑 The best part about Killmonger, however, has to be that, unlike most characters in this category, Killmonger actually leaves his mark on T'Challa and shows him that maybe Wakanda should open up to outsiders and share its gifts with the world because Erik here was absolutely right about that. And now we have the Flag Smashers and especially Karli who baffles me. The FS are people who were originally disadvantaged and received a better life after the snap. However, with the blip, the return of the displaced people now throw a wrench in their improved lives that they spent half a decade propping up. So, they're basically revolutionaries with a pinch of "Thanos was right." 🙃 They have understandable motives for the chaos they create, but then we have Karli and her murderous tendencies. There was no, and I mean NO reason for Karli to blow up a building of innocent people. It does nothing for her cause, it's an illogical move that hurts her movement, and it makes little sense in the narrative. Seriously, IF SHE IS SMART ENOUGH TO PULL OFF MURDERING AN ENTIRE BUILDING OF PEOPLE LIKE THAT, THEN SHE SHOULD BE SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE'S NO BENEFIT IN DOING THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE! This is literally the most obvious example of the "eating kittens" trope that I've seen yet. That scene only exists to prove to viewers that she's the bad guy. It makes no sense otherwise and it annoys me. So yeah. Flag Smashers pathetic 🙄

I actually liked Yon Rogg for most of the Marvel movie. Like until they fought in the desert, I thought his character motivation was decent and him whipping the main character's ass in the beginning was great. Taskmaster doesn't count. The movie's central theme was about having self agency, and Taskmaster didn't have any of that. Saying "Taskmaster was a villain" is equal to saying "the Iron Man suit was a hero."

The only problem was that he didn’t have enough screen time but I’m sure that won’t be a problem in future mcu productions. The actor was great and the portrayal was not as bad as these others. Oh yes, I had the same situation. I saw a few rankings of villains in MCU, and I didn't know why he is so low. Then I've read a comic about Mighty Thor (Jane), and I understood finally why he is so hated. I also don't understand why his skin is not blue. It causes the situation in which Dark Elves and Light Elves from MCU look too similar.

I feel I'm the only person who actually like Kaisilius. Yes I know he's not one of the great Marvel villains, but I quite like his humor and chemistry with Doctor Strange in the film, and the guy does kind of have a point with the ancient one being a complete hypocrite. Plus Mads is like Giancarlo Esposito where he plays the exact same personality of a villain in every movie he's in yet he always nails it and makes it feel a bit different each time.

@@tylerm7035 Depending on the way they handle Masters, I agree. We might get a situation like the Mandarin, but I don't know if Marvel would do that twice. Plus, Trevor took the name of a warlord who had legends about him told over centuries, Drekov would have stolen the name of another assassin. I don't know if that would work. I think they just need to use Anatolia and make her a true Taskmaster now that she isn't hypnotized

The flag smashers were so forgettable. To me there was no villain in falcon and the winter soldier. I was literally just watching an excuse to fill in time before Loki was released.

Agreed, Christian Bale is the only good part about MCU's Gorr because the writing was pretty bad. The fact that the only time we see Gorr butchering Gods was through a PowerPoint presentation is both hilarious and sad. Gorr in the comics is one of the best Marvel villians and the one in the MCU could've been too if they cared about their own source material.

Haven't watched Moon Knight or Ms. Marvel yet, so I won't be able to include their villains if they would have been on mine otherwise but for me bottom tier villains are 10. Ronan: Ronan is just a very standard baddie. I think he is definitely a commanding and threatening presence, but there just isn't enough meat to him to really elevate him beyond that. 9. Yellowjacket: Corey Stoll is a great actor, and he does the best with the role, but he's a very standard business type villain for the majority of the movie, and even though the final fight is really cool, he comes off as a cartoon villain more than anything else. 8: (Tie) Savin/Kurse: These two are very similar. Both are a constant thorn in our heroes side throughout the film. They both have some cool action scenes, but a real lack of personality keeps them from leaving a lasting impression, and we've seen better henchmen both before and after them. 7: Kaecilius: His role is very similar to Ronan, he's the henchman to the big bad behind everything who is on a vendetta against the higher power of the film. Kaecilius has more backstory than Ronan, and Mads Mikkelsen does the best he can with the material but he has less screen presence than Ronan and his overall involvement in the story doesn't leave much of an impression. 6. Taskmaster: There was a lot of potential with this one. They looked like they were setting up for a Winter Soldier type character but it was never executed as well. A lack of personality and menace definitely held her back. I feel that if they made Taskmaster a hired hand and a recurring threat throughout the MCU would have been much better. 5. Sonny Birch: What a waste of talent. Walton Goggins is usually great in whatever he's in, but this role just doesn't suit his talents. More than anything, he just comes off a a nuisance everytime he's one screen. His story is completely pointless and he leaves no lasting impact. Truly a waste. 4. Whiplash: Another waste of a great talent. Mickey Rourke is a fantastic actor and hearing all the stories about how they cut all of the depth from the film is a crying shame. The character had all the makings of an all-timer. His backstory, his connection and thematic relevance to our hero, and his story for revenge all had the makings of someone who could stand among the greats. But the lack of focus and all the cut nuance makes this one of the biggest tragedies of the MCU. 3. Karli Morgenthau: This is a character that had lots of potential. In the first couple of episodes she was depicted as a morally ambiguous character, she had a seemingly noble goal but was incredibly radical methods, there was the potential for her to challenge the heroes perspective in a way Killmonger did, but they never went all the way with it. They ditched the moral ambiguity halfway through the show, but they never managed to make her sympathetic. Her writing is incredibly inconsistent throughout the show, and it makes the whole experience kinda frustrating. 2. Dreykov: This one is just embarrassing. Despite being the main villain, his involvement in the story is minimal. All of his dialogue is the equivalent of a Saturday morning cartoon villain, and his plan is absolutely ridiculous. He has so little menace and every scene he's in leaves so little impact that his inevitable death doesn't even register with the heroes or the audience. It's such a shame that one of our original Avengers and best heroes finally gets her own solo outing and this is the foe she's stuck with. Honorable mentions Kro: Came in really late in the game, forgot he was even in the movie. Hayward: Just a constantly annoying presence. His involvement doesn't lead to much and his defeat was very underwhelming. Shocker: Neither of them left much of an impact. It's a shame that one of Spider-Man's most famous rogues doesn't really affect the story in any significant way. Laufey: Could have been really intimidating, but I forgot he was there half the time and he's just very dull. Yon-Rogg: Had potential, but he's absent for too much of the movie and he ends up being very one note and flat. 1. Malekith: The epitome of wasted potential and talent, Christopher Eccleston was absolutely wasted in the role. Just like Whiplash,his entire backstory and all of his depth was cut from the final product leaving us with a hollow shell of a character. His motivations are the equivalent of a children's cartoon, he wants to cover the universe in eternal darkness for no reason other than just because, his dialogue is generic villain monologues and threats, and he never feels like a genuine threat. Almost 10 years later and still no one has been worse than him. It's almost comforting in a way
