Great vid, as usual ! 👍 At 53, I am slowly transitioning from "rough" gravel biking to hardtail XC/light trail MTB. When looking for that new arrow in my quiver, I was considering a Mondraker Chrono DC, among others. But looking at the geometry and specs, I couldn't help thinking there was something wrong/weird. I ended up buying a discounted brand new Trek Roscoe 8 that fits me as a glove and offers me a ton of versatility.

It's a shame the industry is suffering and the Tweed Valley clique in charge of elite racing have left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans, but 2024 has been pretty good to me. Bought an amazing spec 5010 on your recommendation and there's no way a humble frontline NHS worker like me could have afforded a bike like that if it weren't for covid bad choices...The Welsh Enduro is on next year, Naughty Northumbrian have announced a race, I've got an entry to Ard Rock and another for Boltby, so 2025 is shaping up nicely. I hope you have a great year - someone with your passion and knowledge deserves one!

On your point about supporting your sponsors.... I currently own 4 functioning bikes... I therefore have 4 bike computers, all of them Lezynes of various vintages. I recently had two fixed for free out of warranty by Lezyne. One had a dodgy button that would only sometimes worked. The other was a functioning unit that my dog wrapped her bikejoring lead around and then took off, flinging the headunit into the stratosphere and breaking the mounting tabs clean off. Now the bad part: the current Lezyne computers seem to be seriously feature reduced. The features on the stuff available on the website seems to be about the same as what I have on my year 10 Super GPS from nearly a decade ago, and my 5 year old units are way more advanced... colour screens for one thing. If you have a contact at Lezynne who you can whisper in the ear of who has a contact in RD or product management... let them know, the faithful are still out here, we just need them to meet us half way. P.S. I am only talking about the headunits here. The tools seem top notch, and I have no experience with the lights.

In one of your last videos, you basically said you only rode Giro shoes because of the sponsorship, and you preferred your five tens... Again, I appreciate the candor, I appreciate the honesty, but it makes me feel like I can only trust your views on a product 6-12 months after you have used it. I can see how finding a better product puts you in a tough spot, particularly if you still don't mind the sponsors product, but it makes a viewer question things. I feel bad saying this... I can remember the really early events up at Ae and Inners etc when it was just a slightly more organised mates race and they were ace. Unfortunately I think it's a classic 'careful what you wish for' situation thinking bigger and more pro is always better as then everyone else sees success, wants in on the action and then it's all spread to thin. That pretty much sums up most of MTB atmo TBH. But yeah, DMBINS declaring 'their own' race series when so much of their positive initial publicity came from what the volunteer builders and general 'Tweedlove' community created leaves a bit of a sour taste eh?

The world of MTB racing has to do a far better job of promoting the sport, otherwise no 'outside' sponsors will be interested. And breaking through the non MTB media is important. Outside of the World Cups the sport is often invisible. 8 out of 12 XC World champions start 2025 on WT/WWT Road teams.......
