Hasan is everything I hate about political pundits and talk shows. Hasan does not seek to have conversation and debate, he seeks to first and foremost, to prove you wrong, and that helps create radicalization and echo chambers that many of my generation have dug themselves in. Edit: This comment easily applies to right wing commentators as much as left wing commentators (some replies under this comment fail to acknowledge this) and I have personally seen radicalization go both ways. There are bad people everywhere in society regardless of their political stance, there are racist and sexist leftists just as much as there are racist and sexist rightoids. I have spoken with and see these people on a regular basis, Uni is a very diverse place of thought. I’ll leave off with this. In high school I was starting to become victim to the radicalization of social media, but one line from my Government teacher during a lecture saved me from fully succumbing. “This country would be in a much better place if people accepted not everyone views the world in the same way.” A simple statement? Sure, but it’s one that desperately needs to be echoed.

If you did not know, Hasan is a son of a Turkish conservative, pro-European, center-right party politician, who is also a board member on several Turkish companies, with ties to the richest families in the country. Hasan is a literal golden child, a champagne socialist, that was sent to study in the west that he so despises ... and instead of coming back to his country to use his knowledge there, he stayed in the society that he (supposedly) hates. My guess - it's all an act, it's his stream personality. Otherwise I cannot imagine why other streamers wouldn't distance themselves from him. Me personally, I would, even for just such a disgusting public persona.

Some other things I would have mentioned: 1: His cowardice and unwillingness to walk his talk. He brags about “punching nazis” but when someone he considers a nazi, Sam Hyde, challenges him to fight, he refuses and acts like he’s above such things when it’s obvious that he’s just running from a fight he knows he can’t win. 2: His projection of his own politics onto other things. Such as One Piece, a series about pirates, individualism, anti-authoritarianism and chasing your dreams. He tries to act as if it has socialist values when it clearly does not and he insults anyone who challenges his views. He only sees what he wants to see 3: His labeling of others as Nazis while he defends Hamas. An extremely antisemitic and violent organization that denies the Holocaust, labeling it a “Zionist lie”. He excuses all of their actions as “Struggle against Apartheid” but that excuse falls apart at the fact that South Africa ended its decades long Apartheid system without any bloodshed whatsoever 4: His objectively terrible values. He has openly admitted that the CCP is oppressive and brutal but it doesn’t matter because they made China prosperous. He is more than happy to trade in his dignity and humanity for petty comforts and expects everyone else to do the same happily. He’s also wrong about that. China was in the top ten poorest countries in the world, with an even lower GDP than Afghanistan until Deng Xiaoping’s economic reforms and embracing of the free market. All of China’s success is because of that. Not his precious communism which brought nothing but famine, mass murder and persecution to the Chinese people and still does to this very day
