I have personally believed this a lot myself. Just saying it was faked, that he was in on it, so that the drama would hopefully die down, cuz anytime I've seen him explain it, I know one of my tells for lying is just going monotonous and emotionless because I can't actively lie and express a lot of emotion at the same time, it takes up too much of my brain's resources and energy that could be used for better things. Another thing is often, whenever he watches anything on it, the scene where Colby gets shot, I've often seen him look away just before. Regardless of what happened, I don't really hold it against them because they were young and stupid.

I'm so glad the way I found Sam and Colby was because I came across Elton's first visit to Aokigahara where Colby was with him for their exploration. Coming across that video when researching eerie forests in various countries at the time was what lead me to that whole group. Idk if I'd have been like 'oooh let me check these guys out' if that prank was my first impression. I only heard/saw the video when people were doing ranking vids on pranks that went to far for one reason or another and while very emotionally charged, something you'd want in a show or movie, it was out of pocket.

I saw it when it first aired. It was really rough. I had a hard time watching it, and remembering how pissed I was at Colby for doing that to another person. I didn't even know who they were then, and I was still pissed. It was the only time I ever saw it, and I'll be good if I never see it again. Even largely forgot about it. But when I started watching their ghost videos a year or two ago, I knew they looked familiar. Not long after, that prank popped in my head while watching one of their investigations. If Sam was in on it, goddamn he's a good actor, and it would explain why they're still so tight. Seems like most people would end a friendship after something like that, or at least hold some deep seeded resentments, which in all honesty has always left me a little angry at Colby. So if true, glad its cleared up. At least in my head. 😂
