The point for zwift is to train your legs in intervals and keep you in shape over your off season if you live somewhere that has a off season like Utah for me

Grew up in Mexico City riding around cars in one of the biggest cities in the world, and there is a lot to learn while placing yourself around lots of variables that can affect your ride drastically. This post statement is correct! Zwift will help you keep your fitness and anaerobic levels but when it comes to handling and reaction time Zwift got nothing on real life experience. like how to break fast before you get hit in real traffic, anticipation and read out other people movements while looking for a safer route to take before hand...

There are a number that were highlighted after spending a winter indoors. Biggest was it screwed up my bike handling. I only train and ride outdoors now. Zwift is good for fitness and socialising, that's about it. The indoor sport has its place but should never, ever be compared to being outdoors - your race category, FTP (unless through the same PM that you use outdoors), climbing, av speed, etc. pose very little relevance. You may very well get stronger in terms of power but if you can't rail a corner, climb or descend you'll not be quicker in the real world. I learned that the hard way 😂
@benjapolcycling Жыл бұрын
totally agree. reality check for me in real world when race season starts. feel sluggish to practice bike handling again like first drive in the snow every winter. but fitness gain is still very valuable and real though.

When the weather stops you riding outdoors Zwift is very good for keeping your fitness lvl.
@ryanmussett1016 Жыл бұрын
@@MrLeovdmeer I agree, that's why I said "Zwift is good for fitness", heck it got me super fit but I stand by that if you're serious about cycling it should supplement and not replace riding outdoors. Personally, I'd rather ride and train outdoors regardless of the conditions (unless they're genuinely dangerous) and build in some mental resilience and bike handling in poor conditions - I see it as an opportunity to improve not and obstacle but I'm aware that's just my approach. I get it, not everyone wants to be out in the rough and cold this time of year but my point was if you start talking about Zwift like it's being on the road then there's a problem because outside general fitness the two are not the same.
@MrLeovdmeer Жыл бұрын
@@ryanmussett1016 That is thrue on the road is the real deal.
@benjapolcycling Жыл бұрын
@@ryanmussett1016 agree with this. Sometimes having zwift and replace occasionally bad or cold weather ride can weaken your spirit of riding. However the big caveat in my area there are daily accidents from less sunlight and just more bad drivers, and several friends i know have injury out in the MTB trail riding when the trail condition is not good... need to balance and know yourself too.

Stick to indoor cycling if that's how you ride outdoors, you get way too close to that car, if they had to slam on for something running on the road, you would be a gonner. Becareful, be safe :)
