I had mastitis and it was awful. Shaking, fever and nausea sitting in the tub. Get to your OB soon because you may have to get antibiotics to knock it out, or at least just call them to see what they say. They advise warm compressed on the infected breast and unfortunately you have to keep feeding off of it to get the clogged duct out.

Amanda Ramon yes! I had the same thing with my first born and it was awful!!! Then I felt it with my second baby but I was way more prepared and knew right away. I jumped in the shower as soon as I started feeling sick with chills and fever with warm water and massaged out the clogged milk duct, and it helped soooo much.

Keren, sometimes babies get reflux and it makes them irritable and unable to sleep flat on their backs. Maybe talk to Sutton's Doctor about the possibility of him having pain from reflux. I had a daughter that acted slot like Sutton. Gripe water saved us. We eventually would up putting her on an antiacid Doctor prescribed, it was a miracle and she was a whole new baby! I've also heard Chiropractic and massage therapy helps also. I hope this info helps you out a little bit!

Agree! My son had it and for the first month and a half he was so hard to comfort and we were always holding him, and just like Sutton, once we laid him down after 15 minutes, he’d wake up. Try gripe water and consult your paediatrician!

I JUST had mastitis and it was THE WORST. I had a couple blebs that caused clogged ducts (legit looked and felt like golf balls under my skin that got sooo red and hot) that in turn caused the mastitis. I had to pop the blebs and then stand in the hot shower and get as much out as possible and then nurse my son every 1-2 hours around the clock (sooo painful. Legit felt like glass around my nipple every time he latched and nursed). I had a 102 degree fever for a couple days and was on 2 different antibiotics. My Dr suggested putting me in the hospital but I had nobody to take care of my kids so.... anyways if you have it please get treatment early before you end up like I was. My son and I made it through still nursing but it was the hardest thing ever, the worst pain (yes I’ve had two children with natural childbirths and this was worse IMO), and my supply took a hit.

I had mastitis and it was the worst! Go in the shower with warm water and stand so that your breast is hanging downwards and massage your breast from top to bottom. You can also put a cold cabbage leaf on the area. Lots of feeding from that breast, pumping can help between feeds and if it gets worse go to the doctor for an antibiotic.

Cold cabbage is a bad idea if she wants to continue to nurse. It can lower supply and is often a natural suggestion to stop milk production.

Elisha Blakeburn if you are trying to dry up milk production, cabbage works but you have to use it regularly. I used a cold cabbage leaf when I had mastitis once after I massaged in the shower and it helped a lot! Using it once isn’t going to dry you up, but it does help to clear the blockage that causes so much pain.
