Part of the reason the trubisky trade was so bad is because San Francisco WASNT drafting a QB. The bears sold the farm (or at least all the equipment) just so another hypothetical team didnt trade up in front of them instead.
@benchwarmerbran5 ай бұрын
Yeah but that happens all the time. Teams don’t typically make that kind of deal unless they have intel that another team was definitely going to trade up for that pick if they didn’t do it themselves.
If I was a GM I would call teams and bluff about moving up or picking the player they want, just to get them to do something stupid...then laugh like hell.. especially to teams in our division I would mess with them constantly... Is that wrong?

Thank you for starting this list with Steve Largent. When you go back on film, it boggles my mind how smooth he played (no gloves by the way) and how easy he could at times make it look getting past the defender. The guy was a QB's best friend and for a young franchise like Seattle, that's probably the best compliment you could give him. Also the fact he would walk into the stadium alongside regular fans endeared him heavily to the Seattle area. When you think of how Houston couldn't get past that Steeler wall in the AFC and the fact they let a Hall of Famer go for that cheap...

The Tunsil trade completely changed the trajectory of the Dolphins. One of the Texans 1st rounders turned into the pick that the 49ers traded 3 first for. That trade gave the Dolphins Waddle, Hill and Chubb.

I think the Bears-Panthers trade this year should be up there. - Caleb Williams or Marvin Harrison Jr., 2022 9th overall pick (The favorite for DROTY was taken here), DJ Moore and 2 2nds for Bryce Young, who has been awful and likely doesn't have the size for the position.

There's no reason to talk about it much yet when year 1 isn't complete. Bryce has looked more competent without Reich (even if he faced a Joe Barry defense) and he's got zero supporting cast. One deal from back in the day that should be on this list, or at least close to it, was the 1970 Paul Warfield trade. Not only did this trade help the Dolphins win 2 super bowl titles, including a perfect season, but the reason the Browns made this trade in the first place was so that they could acquire QB Mike Phipps. As a general rule, i feel like whatever you think its worth giving up to acquire a potential franchise QB, trading away your no 1 receiver is a really really bad idea, since it makes said rookie's job a lot harder than it otherwise needs to be

The Hershel Walker trade is the worst because the Walker deal included MORE picks if the players traded to the Cowboys got cut. Which, they did. The trade made the NFL draft a cornerstone market to be taken seriously as opposed to the cavalier way it was treated before. The cowboys ended up with around 4-6 extra picks because the players traded to them didnt make ANY of the benchmarks that would have allowed the Vikings to keep their draft capital. Still beats out the Watson trade, because the Browns are competing much sooner than the Vikings did. Other than that, great list.

Brett Favre was an alcoholic in Atlanta so I believe if the Falcons kept him he would have been a career backup. Therefore I think it rightfully doesn’t belong in this list . I would say the Colts giving a 1/3 for Carson Wentz was one of those “what the hell?!? trades” as well as Sam Bradford from the Eagles to Vikings for a 1/4 was extremely head scratching . Both of those were the Eagles sending an ineffective injured quarterback for 1st round picks.
@shawnjohnson97635 ай бұрын
Actually, Bradford played well in his first season in Minnesota. It was his injury in the second season that hurt. If he had stayed healthy that year, the Vikings would have been the first team to play a Superbowl in their home stadium.

@@shawnjohnson9763 Bradford was hot garbage from the start. He tricked many in his first year with what appears to be highly efficient play but in reality the man was nothing more than a check-down king, racking up high completion percentage and a good TD-INT ratio but he couldn't push his offense down the field. He was the epitome of the shortcoming of the NFL rating system, which gives a QB who goes 3 for 3 for 9 yards (and a 4th down punt) a higher passer rating than a QB who goes 1 for 3 for 33 yards (with a new set of downs 33 yards closer to the end zone).

@@shawnjohnson9763 I don't know about his second year development prior to injury, but I watched him play on team after team once he became a journeyman and he played the same way he did his rookie year. Great for a backup and decent for a run first team, but he was way too much about small-ball and it kept leading to good stats in low scoring losses and that is what did in his career. Now it's not all his fault, if he just for some reason never got out of that mindset from his first year, the team GMs could have at least set up offenses to take advantage of his strengths and minimize the weaknesses, namely develop a tough running game and get small, nimble receiving targets who specialize in catching short and evading a tackle or two to extend the play on YAC yardage.

What really cracks me up about the Wilson trade is Seattle got two high first round picks, and I stead of doing something smart, they opted to stick with Geno lol

As a Vikings fan that can remember being so stoked for the Walker trade. Thank you. We are not the worst trade in NFL history any more. Eff Dallas tho. FR the Stars and Cowboys. We have seen some Some really bad trades in recent years.

As a Bears fan, i will always hate the Trubisky trade. Add to that the Chase Claypool trade too. A terrible wr living off 1 good season. That was Poles' first big miss off him at GM.
@NotMeNaNaNa5 ай бұрын
Thank you for mentioning the Claypool trade. That belongs on here over Mitch. At least Mitch has the following accolades: highest single season QB rating for a Bears QB, only Bears QB to throw for 300+ yds in a playoff game and most recent Bears QB to make a Pro Bowl(which broke a league worst 33yr streak of no Pro Bowl selections for a Bears QB).

Honorable mention should go to the colts for trading for Trent Richardson. Dude was absolute buns after his rookie season 😂😂

When I think of awful trades, I think of ones like the Williams deal that ended up not benefiting either team involved. I feel like there was another one with the Rams (maybe also involving Washington?) back whenever the rams had their suckfest in the mid 2010s…but this is a pretty solid list. Never would’ve thought of Hadl, honestly didn’t realize he was ever on the packers

The Jets trading up for Darnold is very bad as well, given what the Colts did with their haul..

Hear me out. Hershal Walker Trade is the worst. The Brown's are not as bad off as the Vikings were at the end of the trade. If the vikings kept those players and picks they may have come out better and may have even won a superbowl. Instead we have the dynasty that is Dallas in the 90s. What did the brown's end up giving the Texan's? Arguably freeing up the team to pick Stroud, that is it. No dynasty, no big all time great players. So Walker deal is the worst.

Trubisky is not nearly as bad as you say. He led the bears to the playoffs multiple times. He has a 6 TD game. Only 2 active QBs other than Mitch, can say that
@FreshPrincex45 ай бұрын
That bears team wasn't in the playoffs because of him, they made it because of their defense at the time Also. You brought up two random games like that's supposed to magically take away how ass he is. Hence why he isn't a starter permanently.

Then why isn’t he a starter ?

I told my friends at the time that the Seahawks should trade their entire draft class to move up and take Aaron Donald and everyone called me crazy. I've never been as sure of a player coming out of college, and in hindsight he would've been one of only a handful of players in NFL history that actually would've been worth trading an entire draft class for.

I think rn the Russell Wilson trade has to be above the Watson trade cause he’s most likely on his way out while the browns are definitely keeping him around so he has potential to turn it around but Wilson is more than likely done in Denver

The Bears #1 pick to Carolina going to be the worst ever. #1 pick in '23 for #9 and #61 in '23. #1 in '24 and whatever they get for trading it this year. A second-round next year, and DJ Moore.
