Yeah, Test Flight can really choose its moments can't it. In my current save most flights go fine - except for milestones! My first attempt at film return: engine failure after 40s; 1st attempt at 3000km - engine failure, attempt 2: reduced thrust; 5000km - 3rd stage engine failed to ignite; first air launch: XLR failed to ignite (had to ditch in the ocean); It's almost enough to make you cry. But anyway, thanks for the entertaining and inspirational videos. Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery ... isn't it?

What a year..... I watched your last stream so I know what happens there, and I must thank you for showing me how to launch to rendezvous, it's really useful. I simulated my first successful crewed lunar landing, when coming back to Earth I hit a peak of 19G, I don't know how the crew survived that. Principia being able to use RCS in planning is basically a must-have for fine-tuning rendezvous and I cannot imagine doing that in stock.

"I don't get to use this comms satellite for anything" Sure would be nice if you could, and not in the "launch two satellites, separate one, count the other one as the contract satellite and keep the first one for yourself" way. Would be nice if they had it done via what antennas you use. There would be antennas for commercial satellite use, and antennas for TDRS use (or more properly, part variants of all existing antennas that allow you to switch between "commercial satellite service" or "TDRS duty" for each antenna). Antennas selected for TDRS would do two things. Normal communications as they do right now, and they would also tell the commercial contracts that you want to keep track of that satellite after the contract is complete. Commercial satellite service antennas would have a bandwidth rating based on type and how large it is, and allow you to complete a commercial communications satellite contract that requires up to that amount of bandwidth, when placed in the contract's specified orbit. If you're stuck with lower-tech communications antennas, this could leave you with the need to use larger launch vehicles to launch the larger antenna which requires a larger communications satellite bus to get it talking with the ground stations it serves. If the satellite you launch ONLY has the commercial satellite service antenna on it, you will retain control and tracking of it only until you complete the contract and hand over the satellite to the customer. If you put only a TDRS antenna on the communications satellite, it will not be able to complete commercial satellite contracts. So far, not much has changed, right? I hear you asking "Why do we even need the two antenna variants?" Well, wonder no more, for here's the answer: If a satellite uses BOTH the commercial satellite service antenna suitable to complete a contract, AND a TDRS antenna that can keep in touch with the ground stations you have (at least once a week), then you DO retain tracking (but not control) of the commercial satellite you launched once you complete the contract. This is basically a similar concept to "rideshare", but it has historical precedent. Many of the first commercial geostationary communications satellites hosted additional antennas and transceivers for NASA to carry spacecraft command control and telemetry data on. However, this might not always work the way you want it to. Sometimes, the satellite operator (the customer who you launched it for) might contract you to regain control of the satellite and put it in a new orbit (the game should be able to figure out what a reasonable orbit change is considering the remaining amount of delta-V from both the main engine (if equipped) and RCS (also if equipped), and if there is no capacity for orbit change, they won't ask you to move it). This can range from orbit raising/lowering, to a slight plane change (or not so slight, if Principia is installed and allows you to use the "lever" of orbital precession to create large LAN changes without using much fuel by simply raising/lowering orbit, like how Starlink does it), or even (if it's a geostationary sat) moving to a new geostationary "orbital slot" (longitude). Most of this doesn't really require all that much fuel, but it does require careful calculation, so double-check your math!

RL-10 teething problems IRL were 100% a thing. The fact that it uses a gearbox (and some very small capacity valves) to control the mixture ratio to the engine (mostly to ensure that both fuel and oxidizer tanks reach empty at the same time) rather than independently controlled turbopumps led to not a small number of problems in it's early development, if you want to learn more about that. So maybe RSS-RO-RP1 (programs and launch complexes) is forcing a few early RL-10 failures no matter how reliable you make it, to recreate that? Maybe I'm putting too much credit on the developers of this mod pack tho, it could just as easily be that you simply fell on a bad streak of the RNG (true RNG doesn't pull a different number every time, because that would be a pattern, so streaks are actually working as intended).

First launch ever failed, recall a couple of the early odysseys failing when the cursed xplane upper stage failed, one of the ASP flights failed and those are really only the major launches I can think of, can’t remember much about Thunderbolt launches though so they might have had a high success rate but fairly sure quite a few of those had test flight failures too! Not trying to argue though haha just thought this run has been struck with quite a bit more failure than my last one!

Not a fan of test flight. I don't like the idea of my rockets failing for the sake of failing. Things fail for a reason and they can be fixed. Failing because an RNG says so isn't realistic.
