The Wou Collection: One Man’s Vision to Preserve 4,000 Years of Chinese History

Covering some 4,000 years of Chinese art, this video dives deep into this extraordinary collection formed by Dr Wou Kiuan (1910-1997). Collections such as this truly don’t exist anymore, ranging from utilitarian storage vessels made by the first Neolithic cultures to the most dazzling porcelains ever commissioned to adorn the palaces of the Qing Emperors of China’s final dynasty. The remarkable scope of this collection sets it apart from all other private collections of Chinese art formed in the mid-20th century. This 22 March 2022, Sotheby’s New York presents Part 1 of the collection of Dr. Wou Kiuan, a sale entitled A Journey Through Chinas History.

it should be bought by the chinese government and put into a permanent collection in Beijing or so. really a shame that this collection will be spread up across the globe in private hands and vaults. it should be available to the public and for the world's education in chinese culture and history. beautiful and remarkable.

The cultural revolution destroyed these treasure in the 60s. Even the ancient arts of shaolin almost went extinct. Right now, China has destroyed ancient mosques in Xinjiang.

It's great to see that these treasures are so well preserved. But it would be a pity if these treasures were lost to foreign personal collectors instead of returning to China where they came from.
