Not a bad story. It's better than those AI stories that repeatedly use "indomitable" every 20 seconds as an explanation for everything.

As well as "the tension was palpable". When the "indomitable, palpable tension" appears in a story, the oft used "thumbs down" icon will be gleefully struck.

Well done. A story revealing what shouldn't be, learning what should be. Humanity's leadership may one day reach the status of that portrayed in this story. As of now, we are too similar to "what shouldn't be", pretending to be "what should be".

Good story. No mention of bristling weaponry or clicking mandibles. My imaginary theory about the success of projectile weapons against superior technology is that such tech would be designed to either deflect or dissipate the effects of directed energy weapons, but not to resist being simply punched through by a heavy slug.

Glad you liked the story and sounds like a good theory to me! We'll have to find some aliens to shoot at to test it though! Hahaha
@mycroft16

Kinetic energy is a bitch to dissipate. Especially a whole lot of it. The best you can do is intentionally take damage to absorb the energy and rob the projectile of enough energy to make it through. A shield designed to stop an energy weapon is literally not even going to affect a projectile. It's there to interfere with EM radiation... not halt a physical mass.

@Sci-FiVault but to him and his people, it wasn't brutal. It was the way of life. They knew no better as it was their moral code at the time and has only changed due to losing the war. No. There is no capital punishment for him. He would be the first senator/representative of his people with only a provisional voice on the galatic whole until their people show they can act in good faith. Moreover, he would have to help his people form fair elections and securities to make sure there is no cheating in said elections, forming aid and education programs and institutions for not only his people but the people his has harmed. It wasn't bad, but I stopped counting at third "the humans had not just defeated us with military might/resilience/combat prowess but by compassion/diplomacy/alliance-building" and too many "as I stand before you, last emperor of (stuff)". I can forgive the many "how wrong I was (in my arrogance)" repetitions as the speaker is lamenting past actions, but the rest could have been fixed with simple editing pass of the text.

A tale through the eyes of the defeated race. The words of the dethroned Grand Emperor were inspiring and magnanimous. Words that read of his fall, his reactions to failure, how mind bendingly impossible their defeat was to comprehend and, finally, his realization of his actions that ended his reign and created from their ashes a galactic community that empowered participants not enslaved the individual conquered masses. Inspiring words to preclude your approaching demise, don't you think.!!🤔😖😣😯😧😮😵🤔👽🖖👽🖖

[Humanity]: Desist your invasion of our allies and return to your space. [Alien]: A derisive response is sent back. [Humanity]: Woe be to you for what you have unleashed. Fleetwide and open-channel broadcast: Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war! [Narrator]: For humanity, the switch from a seemingly docile evolved primate has been flipped, and whatever you have done to cause that switch to flip, fear the cost of your pride, for you have just uncorked the font of Hell incarnate... Mercifully for you, should your better nature bring you to the decision to end the conflict, or it is ended for you, the bearer of that cork who stands vigil to cage the Beast that resides in all of us to be contained, for they are all too ready to fulfill their duty, and from there that spark lurks, yearning quietly for the sliver of light that heralds its unleashing yet again...

These stories, from various sources, are improving. AI voices on some glitch in a way that makes listening hard, but there is progress. Some stories from some sources are extremely militaristic or triumphalist but this one is inspiring and speaks to our better nature. Keep up the good work. PS to those who like war gaming and machismo, there is room for that as well, don't take this as criticism, just as a reminder that tastes differ.

@@Sci-FiVault Thanks for the reply. I have a number Ace doubles. I've seen them in plastic protectors for many times the purchase price. If my books hadn't been in storage and gotten musty they might be salable, but I am probably just going to give them away for free. I liked H. Beam Piper's and Keith Laumer's series so much that they became lose leaf from rereading. Some abandoned [orphaned?] series could be reworked for use in this medium. If a publisher is involved it could be a problem. If, for example, Asimov's Lucky Starr were used as a model, rather than just copied, the tropes and plots are so well used that the new author's main issue would be to not use identical elements, to update the science, and to keep the stories moving forward and interesting. One of my favorite Piper stories, "Lord Kalvin of Otherwhere" has been revived, twice. The first was a wooden conclusion of the first orphaned novel. It was, several years later redone and was much better. The series has since been added to but while well done, and the plot seems to be intact, the characterization is not to my liking. Best wishes for your channel.
