That is a magnifent-looking tornado, gracefully arching far up to the swirling cloud base with no rain curtains, easily visible from a safe distance, and apparently not threatening settled areas. Much preferable in every way to a squatty, rain-obscured killer wedge. Thank you for sharing this experience.

High based storms are the way to go! Having grown up in Indiana, I love High Plains storms where drier air at mid levels allows one to see the structure of supercell storms in spectacular detail. And the lack of heavy rain was icing on the cake! Thanks for the comment, Catherine!

Chasers should use a checklist like we pilots do. One of the first items would be "Turn off windshield wipers if it's not raining." 9:21 and 10:54 - Airplanes or satellites? Awesome, dirty tornado & great video!

From Doug Kiesling: THE CHEESE BURGER! Why the Cheese Burger? Superstition is deep in chasing and the late Tim Samaras used to keep a Cheese Burger on his dash board the whole season from McDonalds. The thing never rotted since it was from McDonalds but it was his lucky charm. At one of the weather conferences in 2014 they handed out foam cheeseburgers for people as a remembrance to Tim, Carl and Paul.

+Chaotic Horizons Oh, well that explains it. :) As a long-time storm enthusiast I was deeply saddened at the loss of the chasers in the 2013 season. I had followed Tim, Josh Wurman and others for years. Thanks for honoring their memory, and for staying on the chase, burger style.
