how should a child of Yacov prepare before attempting to Study Mishnah and Midrash? I want to study the oral Torah; but I do not know where to begin.

Try to look up the local Chabad house in your area.

You need a teacher go to local orthodox synagogue and look for a learning fellow. If you can not do that look the mishna online and buy a copy with commentary in the language you are most comfortable in and that could sort of serve as a learning fellow

Disagreements are recorded in the mishna. The mishna is like a law brief where an opinion or a law is brought and disagreements and proof are discussed
