Did a little further research. The X80 was originally branded the Cool Baby RS-19 a few years ago.

This console reminds me of my Original PowKiddy X16, which I still have and really like. Thing is, it's good for only Gameboy games. That being Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games. All other systems including NES glitch like crazy. That's why I only use my X16 for Game Boy Games along with it making a great video player. I got a 512GB micro sd installed in my X16 for the Game Boy roms library and tons of video files.

I think those are my 3 favorite systems to play on a handheld anyway, especially GBA. It’s pretty awesome that we can emulate these systems on some of these lower cost devices. I’m planning on giving this one away to a subscriber in the near future. Actually I’ll be giving away a lot of devices. In Japan the Cross and Circle buttons are inverted on PlayStations. Their physical placement is the same; but, their functionality has been switched. Triangle and Square are the same everywhere. If this handheld was modeled after a Japanese market PlayStation would that be causing the button mapping weirdness? Speaking of button mapping weirdness; the PSP could emulate PS1 perfectly. The problem was, much like this X80, the PSP only sports one set of triggers. The solution was to map the missing two shoulder buttons to the analog nub. Is that something that's possible here? It seems like a decent enough handheld for certain use cases. It's not for me; but, one thing I do give it props for is the big screen. 7 inches for $35 isn't that much more than what Subway charges for 6 inches. It's a shame they won't upgrade the hardware inside even a little bit though. They change the shell to keep up with trends; but, the chip set and software are positively ancient at this point and it struggles with Genesis. Why was the sound doing that, haha? I feel like it Walmart can officially certify and do quality control on a 7 inch Android tablet and charge $40-$50 for it that some enterprising handheld manufacturer could stuff those parts inside this shell, skip all the costly certifications, and sell it on Ali-X for $40-$50 as well. That would be something worth having.

I currently have it in my cart and your review is a big help. Thank you for taking the time and showing what features it has in store. But what impressed me was the fact that it plays playstation 1 Crash Bandicoot beautifully. I have a few questions regarding the console: How is its performance for 3D Playstation titles on average. Does it have save state? Can I add your own emulators such as ppsspp? Does it support RetroArche, if not can I add it onto the system? Does it support psp titles? What game console systems can it emulate? Kind regards.

Yes I have alot of these Chinese handheld devices and alot of the action buttons are in reverse!

I think all these 7" cheap consoles are going to have LCD screens, cause an IPS screen would make it cost as much as a switch.

I think you’re right with the larger screen devices. The 3.5” screens are all coming out with IPS but these larger ones are also geared toward a less informed customer base who may not know what the difference is as well. It’s a huge difference in image quality

Not in my opinion. It depends what your options are. I would choose the M17 over this one if you’re looking for a budget horizontal handheld because it has a legit dpad, real sticks (not sliders) and stacked L1/R1 and L2/R2 shoulder buttons. If you have the option to order that device it’s a much better experience even though it’s only a 4.3” screen. Developers recently released an unlocked version of Emuelec for it as well so if you like to tinker with your settings you’ll have more options. The only things I like about the X80 are the face buttons and the shoulder buttons. The screen size is nice but the viewing angles are terrible. The analog sliders are literally unusable. I’m sorry to speak so negatively about this device but it could’ve been a lot better with a real dpad and thumbsticks.

I think the possibility exists but the developers who make these types of changes don’t seem to be focusing on this device. I wish they would because even though it’s not IPS display, 7” screen is cool.

The X80 and X7 are not powerful enough. I don’t recommend them. Despite having a smaller screen should get the R36S if you can find it for a good price. The screen may be small but it’s an IPS display and looks much better. The R36S is a great budget handheld and it can play GTA Vice City Stories on PSP and can also play a lot of Sega Dreamcast games. R36S is popular and has a lot of community support, so if you ever run into any issues somebody will always be able to help you figure out what to do.

@anujsapkota502 some people suggest downloading the gmu music player from portmaster, but I haven’t tried it. Others say they can play mp3 and mp4 media through the PPSSPP emulator, which is already installed on the R36S.

The M17 is a much better experience. It’s especially better after flashing Spectral Void’s custom firmware which unlocks the menu options and adds more emulation options. Taki Udon has a video with his own custom firmware link as well. The X80 is such a headache. The sliders are terrible and the menu is a mess. Please trust me on this and hold off on it. I just ordered the X80 Pro and it’s even worse. If you get the M17, let me know and I’ll provide you with the link for the SpectralELEC custom firmware. It’s a great budget device and works so much better than the X80.

You’d have to look into handhelds like the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, or anything more powerful than that. They’re pretty expensive. 3DS is surprisingly difficult to emulate well.

Yes. You can add your own roms by just dropping the files into the ps1 folder on a PC or Mac

Unfortunately, not. It doesn't perform well and can only emulate up to PS1, and it struggles with that.

Unfortunately not HD and no Mario games. Like so many others these days, afraid of getting sued by Nintendo. You can easily add the Mario games to the sd card though

Yes, much better. It has a smaller screen, but it’s a beautiful screen and cpu outperforms the x80’s in every way. You can add a nice custom firmware very easily too. I highly suggest getting the R36S over the X80. 👍
