Just investigating an ft-277 same as an early ft-101 and the same two diodes are toast they fell out all by themselves. Someone had put the wrong amperage fuse in mine, it had popped but later than it should have! I can see some leaky caps and lots of rust too.. If you don't plan on running it from DC a lot of people disconnect the transistors on the rear under the black vent as a precaution. As these are apparently a ticking time bomb. C13 under the final tubes seems to cause a lot of stress and people change it for a fresh one on new to them radios. Thanks for sharing!

I Have a Ft 101 that i bought recently . When I turn the radio on the fan works and the heater is lighting the driver and the finals. I checked the voltages on the power rectifier board and the readings are fine. I cant get the radio to turn on. no lights, mic will not key the relays {tested fine} even with the heater on. Any idea?

Hey Randy: Congrats on the 101 great radios. Sounds like your on the right track so far. Ok on the power supply voltages being there and ok. Please be careful my was dead but the High Voltage was working. Upon review some obvious stuff comes to mind. The first thing I would look at is T12 the 13v power supply choke it may be open. Also the lights don't work. Is there power getting to them? Or are they burned out? A lot of these rigs have burned out indicator lamps. Without the 13vdc supply nothing will work This supply is the heart of the radio. Also look for broken wire connections. Make sure the tie points these wires are attached to are still soldered securely to the board. They tend to wiggle and detach themselves from the board. Also remove all the boards and clean the contacts on the chassis and the board them selves. At the same time keep checking for broken wires. Hope this helps Alex

@@BeavistheLizard that was along time ago. i never got that radio to work. Every time i would turn it on it would blow the breaker in my fuse panel. So i used it as a parts radio. A decision i regret. i then came across a 101B and that was another junk radio. So not to give up i came across another 101 with the am filter. pluged it in . One tube lit up , the fan came on and the it went bad. transformer ? who knows. it just does nothing. with all the money i spent i could have had a 101 that works. its funny you messaged me. becuse i havent thought about those (now 3 101's) in a while. until last night. Its got me thinking. How did that happen ? Well anyway i have had a FT-107 that is in mint condition. what a great find. anyway I have boards/ tubes filters and a renewed interest since its the dead of winter. But i have boards an Am filter in a dead radio that may need a transformer and do I or dont I try again. I willing to let this stuff go. At bargain prices. or I may try another attempt but being honest to myself I need the correct bench scope, and probably other equipment to even have a chance. So let me know if your looking for anyparts i may have something your looking for. 73'

Hello My friend I will put something out very soon. Your first step is to make sure all the power supply voltages are present and correct. In your case check the 12 volt supply. This is what powers the receive section and the lower power drive for the transmitter.In my case the power supply capacitor was leaking and damaged the rectifiers . I rebuild that section of the power supply which solved the problem.
