Sold my WR250f (admittedly a 2006) and bought a Husky FE350 and so far couldnt be happier. The WR is a fantastic bike, I honestly mean that 100%, but the stalling on steep rocky hills caught me out a couple times and watched friends sail past whilst i was struggling. Hard to have nice things to say about the WR at the top of the hill when you get there last. Everything else i really liked about it, and it actually has snappier bottom end than the efi husky, but give it a wrist load and the husky is in another tier. Can see why nobody rides WRs for enduro anymore. Its pumpkins and huskies with the odd red or blue 450 in the mix. Great vid mate!

I ride mostly slow technical so I added two teeth to the rear sprocket. Problem solved. As for the stalling, just learn how to use the clutch more/differently (and also, the bigger rear sprocket helps a lot for that). Problem solved again. But all in all, very fair and accurate review in my view.

Interesting to see your experience on this bike. I have a WR250R and it’s so comfy and relaxed. Almost too plush. You jump it, and immediately bottom the suspension. It tractors along well but also struggles in hard enduro type situations. I had a YZ250 and it was painful to ride slow. And a bit of a handful in hard enduro stuff. I now have a YZ250X with a Apex head and Lectron carb. Absolutely night and day. Suspension is plush and comfy but you could still jump it as long as you don’t expect super cross level of performance. It tractors along effortlessly. It can be ridden more relaxed. It can be pushed hard. It excels in hard enduro terrain. It’s just so playful and fun and pulls like a damn freight train when you’ve got the open space for it. I’ve ridden a 450FX and there’s no way I could ride hard enduro on it. But I would thing a WR250FX is a solid performer?

You said what Iv been saying since 2015. I had an FX, and sold it cuz it was too aggressive when 50% of time I putz around and explore. I went to go buy a '21 WR250f, and could feel it was too similar to the FX. Jerky throttle, Suspension amazing except at slow rough terrain. And the clutch drags from the factory. I have and had race bikes, but my trail bike is now a '21 Kayo K6 250 EFI and it was $5k new. Those and the WR are the only 250f enduro platforms out there with a 6 speed, lights, efi, and softer suspension. Im glad I bought it, bike is fun and plush on the trails.

Great video, but I have to disagree with you. I had a 2018 WR250F and I now have a 2022 WR250F. My 2018 was a little too soft, but it was easily fixed with clicker adjustment. At least the clickers make a noticeable difference on KYB suspension (unlike WP). My 2022 is just about perfect straight out of the box, (with a FMF pipe). My only criticism is that it is easier to stall the engine than my 2018 was, but I put that down to rider error (my lack of talent). I find the FX version more harsh and not as good at soaking up trail hits at Clubman pace. The manufacturer can't win as everyone likes a different setup, but that's why they're adjustable.

Great summary. I'd love to return to the WR's of old where I started. Riding the latest yammy against a 2011 CRF250X last week it was clear to me the honda was more comfortable, versatile, useable etc. I don't think they can do much about the snatchyness with the FI, you either have the power or you don't, lag was a built in feature of the carb. They've moved the power up the rev range a bit (like the KTM's) which makes it a little less snatchy down low versus the 2018 FX etc...but you sacrifice low end power as a result. As for the rigidity... you just can't fix that, you have to wait for the factory to address it. Softer springs is a start. If billy bolt runs .43 on his forks, god knows why yamaha went from .42 on the old gen to .46 ? on the new one. It just amplifies the frame issues.

After riding a 2003 525 EXC for almost 20 years I wasn’t too sure about going back to a 2 stroke but my new bike is absolute magic for a 65 year old veteran rider like me. It is fast, plush, has crazy good brakes and clutch, EFI with incredible range and no pre-mix to mess with, runs cool compared to my EXC and the list goes on and on. The WR250f looks very cool and I would have bought one if available but I found a place that was blowing out last years TE250i’s at a price comparable to the Yamaha so I pulled the trigger. Your video has confirmed my decision and I very much appreciate your insights and thoughtful comments. Greetings from Washington state USA.

@jvogler_art47082 жыл бұрын
I'm taller so i like the high seat height. I like that it comes out of the box very aggressive and i'm gonna wanna revalve the bike for my weight anyway. So really the only thing i'd have to do extra is a new flywheel. As someone torn between a 250 and a 450.. This did make the 250 more appealing to me. But i think the low end torque of the 450 is also very, very appealing. But it has a lot of top end i don't need and 20 something extra pounds of weight. I wish they made a 300 4 stroke for the perfect middle ground. But i agree, this bike kinda does come off like a watered down YZ250FX. I'm a diehard Honda and Yamaha fan, so buying a bike from one of those brands over something like KTM is a no brainer. The price point and available parts is just way better to me. I love the Japanese reliability, and i grew up riding hondas and yamahas so i'm loyal to those brands. It's a shame Honda discontinued it's XR line because i think if they really put effort into an XR400r in 2022 it would be an amazing machine and a good competitor to these WR's. The CRF 250F just seems so lackluster, I wanna see honda make an enduro/trail bike with a solid suspension setup like yamaha. i think the CRF250F is the kind of mellow bike people want though. Low seat too!

@@danieldigiuseppe7912 my KTM500EXCF is 10kg lighter than my former WRF250. Of course more power, 55hp instead of 35, true that 250 power is enough for any trail. Thanks for giving a balanced review. These bikes are great for going fast, but work poorly for hard technical riding. As a long time Yamaha fan I just can’t understand why they have refused to develop suitable hard enduro models. Their best effort, the YZ 250X, is a mild update of a 20 year old design, but lacks a 6th gear, electric start, or adequate electrical power for lights. E start saves the technical rider tons of energy in the tough sections, and likewise makes turning off the motor a non issue when riding with friends. Yamaha was known for innovation. What happened?

I started watching this, and at first i thought this was just gonna be the typical Biased WR250F is the best review. But i continued watching, and by the end, i was in full agreement. I Love enduro motorcycles , and enjoyed riding WRs alot, But that was before they felt like a MX bike. Well put together review, unbiased. Pointing out its Benefits, which i agree with. But, one thing i look for is the flaws, to see if people felt what i felt. And I 100% agree. You've earnt a new subscriber 🤘
Thanks for the video, i think you saved me from a 15k mistake

You're a dead set flog.......KTM have all those bits for years, and guess what, they win most world titles, and with all the Gear Yamaha doesn't have the KTM's are still a shit tonne lighter

You need to set it up a bit more ! Wind the High speed compression damping right off on the shock , wind the fork compression off 4 clicks and wind in 2 more clicks on the fork rebound ! Ride it again with 105mm of sag and re evalute the suspension . A Rekluse Radius CX clutch makes it easy ! My 2021 WR250F is the best bike ive ever ridden , Im a retired Pro level enduro rider in Australia . regards Adam Troy

Hey man I have this bike too but I’m honestly so confused as to what you said? I’m sort of a beginner , do you have somewhere I can research to understand all of what you said? Lol

It's interesting....I've got a 17 250FX. Bought a used programmer and tweeked tuning a bit,now it's just about the perfect bike for literally anything from moto(I'm no pro) to extreme singletrack.(Rocky mountains of Canada has nasty, flowy and everything in between) Besides protection they only thing not stock is an inch lower seat. Suspension is good enough with clicker adjustments for everything...and quite frankly the best suspension I've had on an off roader. I rarely ever stall the bike. Bike revs to the moon and ive never thought I didn't have enough power. I honestly can't find much bad to say about the 250FX (tho I hear the newest edition is a bit different). I got it for dirt cheap pre covid....and currently don't think there's another bike I'd want.....especially with the price of bikes nowadays.

Yamaha couldn't be anymore confusing with all these models. I love Yamaha but trying to pick apartment all the different models is just not an easy thing to do.

Thanks for your videos and honesty. So what else would one need to get the WR250F to be enduro friendly? Do you have a video? Also anyone have ideas as to what the 2023 WR250F will be like? Thanks

I would LOVE for Yamaha to make a WR300R, X, and F. Little torqueier down low. I think a vast majority of riders could use a tame 250 with low end torque to just cruise on trails but send it hard if needed. I’d also love Yamaha to develop some new 2 strokes. As I’ve always had my eye on the KTM300

From which year does the wr250f become more race-oriented and lose the "plush" trail characteristic?
