I think one thing MBT missed here was the hit to Gamma, limiting it to 1. It makes things like Shifter or Droll more powerful against decks like SHS or Purrely as it makes it a lot harder to negate them, considering you only get the one shot. With 3, it makes it more plausible that you'll have it in your opening hand, now with 1, at least to me, it seems like it's a hail mary. All in all, I think this banlist didn't really do much to change the power of Kashtira, mainly just cutting out one frustrating thing (the "show me that extra") and making it mildly less consistent by taking a single copy of Unicorn away and leaving you with a single copy of Ariseheart (not like I ever see more than one copy per match with Kashtira anyway).

Bans should be applied to decks that are overcentralising and too good in their current state. The point of banlists SHOULD be to balance the game, and make is so that there's a variety of decks that are playable, instead of this cycle of 1-2 top decks that get really expensive, get hit and become unplayable to push the next deck

It wasn’t what we needed, but I think this banlist is fine for now. I know people were excited about super heavy and purrley, but those two decks had a similar problem to kash in that they have hyper centralized cards that were absolutely insane and warped the play style of both decks. (Purely got hit way worse imo) hopefully this will open up the meta for some tinkering because Despite what Joseph said here some decks got absolutely insane tools like denglong for swordsoul and sky striker. Not that I like playing against those decks, but sky striker with that much power absolutely dumpsters kash on the play since they can afford to sack an engage now and swordsoul gets to blow through way more interaction instead of sitting on chengying and a prayer

Sometimes when I hear the talk about ban lists and deck building I wonder how people would feel if the tcg ran a duel links style ban list. You can only run X number of cards from there ban list section. If it's semi limited you either play 2 of X or 1 of X and a Y

AND THANKS Konami for making the support that turned the deck into "extra deck spamming machine, stripping the deck from its identity sans its gimmick acting as its weakness"; WHILE ALSO breaking its kneecaps before it truly lived up to the hype. I swear, if Konami had given them a counter trap omni-negate (that you could banish from the GY to stick to the SHS playstyle of no S/T in GY), it would be the most blatant attempt at just recreating Infernity. Also, While I am glad Cyber-Stein got hit, I have mixed thoughts about it as summoning Naturia Exterio in SHS felt like one of the few plays of the "extra deck vomit machine" playstyle that actually kinda fit the deck: with the S/T hate, and the banish & mill cost was one of the few ways SHS could access to a foolish burial effect, that actually fits its style depending on the built and cards playing (sending stuff like gigagloves, flutist, fist or drum that are sometimes useful, but the problem is getting them in the GY) 1:16 Yeah. Agree with that. ALTHOUGH now I feel sad that losing scarecrow will just motivate others to use more generic extra deck stuff, as Scarecrow was sometimes the only SHS extra deck monster they played, besides Ninja sarutobi (which only occasionally appeared)

I really really wish they’d have limited Shangri-Ira. It not being a hard once means that any time you can establish more than one, you open the possibility to the least enjoyable gameplay loop imaginable. Even if you don’t get the full 9 zone lock, the 5 zone lock sucks a massive amount of ass and is functionally an FTK against loads of decks that need backrow to play. I think that with a single Shangri-Ira, Kash wouldn’t even play Diablosis since the whole point behind that card is to trigger Shangri-Ira easily to lock zones. I also really wish we’d have followed in the OCG’s footsteps and limited Unicorn. 3 Fenrir is whatever, but the searching off Unicorn is just too much. I do think SHS needed some sort of hit to kill the FTK. No it’s not always their game plan, but having a meta deck that can flex into an FTK just reminds me of Pendulum Magicians and how entirely awful that format was. Purrley getting hit is a joke and Gamma to 1 is beyond stupid. It’s an incredibly strong hand trap, but I think the empty board requirement is enough to balance it out because if you don’t open it going second, you risk having completely dead draws later in the game. I wish Kashtira was hit a little bit differently, but at least a lot of the degenerate stuff is either gone or substantially harder to access.

Diablosis being banned and Gamma limited is a hit against Kashtira above all else. No more consistent lock 5s. Kashtira could abuse gamma more than other decks. If they had limited shangri-ira, kashtira would be dead, and so many players have kashtira decks that it would explode the market, so I think they are trying to be gentle and put it down over the course of 2 banlists to cushion the impact

Great banlist imo. I would have wanted more hits to Spright (Starter to 1 could be good) but all in all pretty happy about it. Now it's time to cook a bit with Denglong in Swoswo lol
