I noticed that, through history, judges had been surprising hesitant to give harsh penalties to people cause the massive death of others and in cases that the judges do give a harsh sentence about half the time the sentences are successfully appealed.

Lock the doors so people cannot leave/enter without paying. It is a constant theme. Cocoanut Grove, Happy Land, Ozone, Ycua Bolanos. It never fails. I was in tears looking at the pictures. But, it always comes down to the want for more money. Customer safety be damned. The Paivas should have been sentenced to 20 minutes in a locked room with the families of the victims. On a side note: Raven, I do not know how you stay sane making these videos. You do a fantastic job with horrific subject manner. I hope that you can keep up the good work.

Given that the building was going up in flames, and all the stock with it, I would have thought that a few unpaid items would be the least of their problems. How mind bogglingly dumb and callous do you have to be to order the locking of the doors in such circumstances.
@tonysansom4 сағат бұрын
It's not even logical. By denying firefighters access to the building, they guaranteed that all the stock within would be destroyed.

I'm from neighboring Argentina and honestly I had no idea about this incident. In my city of Buenos Aires we had a similar incident though, that involved similar ingredients: fire, neglicence and corruption. The Cromagnón Club Fire that happened in December 30, 2004. “Locking the escape doors”... something which is common in disasters around the world... this channel and others have made videos about Night Clubs and Restaurants doing the same in the US and England. Misery has no nationality or ethnicity, in the Guarani’s case these father and son did a common thing, a horrible thing, but not unique

Previous cases of locked doors were because the owners did not want people getting in without payment. This was to stop them from getting out when an actual fire was in progress. There is no comparison.

I thought the stores of nightclubs having fire exits locked to stop people sneaking in were bad enough, i never thought I'd hear a story where doors were locked in response to a fire. Unbelievable. They sentenced innocent people to burn to death because some might be carrying stock that was going to burn regardless, and in turn got sentenced to something like 5 days in prison per person they murdered. This is the worst one by far.

I don't often wish ill of people because it can't help, but I hope that store owner and guard go to sleep every night reliving what they heard, smelled and saw, and dream of what it felt like to be one of the victims of their deliberate, callous choices that day. Because not only did they make that split second choice • they KEPT the gates down and the doors locked. There's no way there wasn't time for them to change their minds after an initial ill-judged, split second choice in a moment of panic before they realized the severity of the situation. they had to see what was happening. I hope they continue to see it.

Tragedy for the people who died and those families who had to endure so much in the aftermath. At least there was a form of poetic justice to the fate of Victor Paiva in the end... He might have dodged the sentencing his crimes truly deserved, but in the end, his own greed and life style would come to bite him in the ass eventually when 2020 rolled in.
