yihengs coach has stated that yiheng will not be learning zb as his transition from oll to pll is way too fast for him to save really any time because he will still have to recognize the zb and execute the alg faster than oll and pll which for him is very hard
@Feverstockphoto3 ай бұрын
'Yiheng's coach has stated..,' Source, link? Unless or until Yiheng actually learns ZB.., and practises it for a prolonged period of time to the same level as his OLL, PLL, it would be tough to say for sure if it wound make him faster, though it should, setting recognition times aside for a second. What we do know is that at least ZBLL in and of itself itself saves several moves over OLL, PLL. Recognition is the slightly unknown factor but it may take a fraction of a second longer than say OLL on it's own and Maybe be a similar time to OLL and PLL combined. But again at least we know ZBLL saves moves and we know people like Tymon and others are benefitting from using it over OLL and PLL. So my guess is it would save Yiheng a small fraction of a second overall and every fraction of a second that can be saved can make a big difference! I know very little about ZBLS! So that might impact his time negatively over his current insert preferences. His coach may think Yiheng doesn't need to learn, utilise ZB now as no one can touch him time wise, but the future may be a different ball game. Watch this space! 🙂👍

There were what felt like odd ommissions in the summary at the beginning. You obviously know who won each worlds, but to a random who was given this video by the algorithm, I have no idea, and while I am pretty sure I can infer from "he wasn't just the favorite, he was the fan favorite, it wasnt that he was simply going to win, it was that he deserved it" I feel like he DID in fact win, but I don't know for sure. Did the Thai child defeat the teenager in an upset or did the expected result play out. Doesn't really take away from the overall point, but from a storytelling perspective, you gotta include those details, because it's too many "wait, what?"s in quick succession right at the beginning. Edit: Ok well Im subscribing anyway because Im hoping you have videos on all these algorithms because they also sound interesting but it is appropriate to not have included them here as simply understanding what an algorithm is, which most do or will pick up from context clues, allows one to understand why Yiheng will be usurped almost inevitably. You should make a follow up though or maybe something like this is already on your channel (and I could probably google the following question verbatim) but why is Yiheng's combination of algorithms conclusively slower than the CFOP(?) method? You mentioned turning, which clearly is going to radically affect speed to a point (are there stats on if different methods have, and it would be best to look at tiers of cubing separately, different average turning frequencies? Is there data on specific turns?) And then also, why can't Yiheng learn CFOP? Does it take too long to develop the muscle memory? I am sure he understands or his coaches understand the manner it which it is superior, and obviously as long as Yiheng is winning, there is no reason to get in his way. But if he started to lose, then surely they would attempt the switch?

The kid is 11. It's not too late to learn a new method, the question is whether learning that new method will help him win _now._ If it won't, it's probably best to avoid the possibility of confusion from cross-training, and taking the edge off his main strat that is already dialed in. When he's no longer winning enough this way, he'll switch. This is like complaining some prodigy musician hasn't learned a certain technique yet. Maybe they just don't need it yet.

Speed over efficiency wins when it is really only two or three moves more, especially if it takes less brainpower too. I think the leaderboards show a pretty normal sequence of very fast times. A while ago Tymon talked about how in world champs they should change the average of 5 in finals to something bigger like average of 12 or 25. According to him this would be a better decider for who’s really the best in the world. Although that’s correct, I think an average of 5 has a good mix of skill, luck and nerve control that makes world champs the perfect amount of excitement, as it will still be quite unpredictable who wins. Whereas any set bigger than ao5, Yiheng would basically be guaranteed to win (as long as he’s doesn’t completely collapse under the pressure), which would be boring. So because it’s just one ao5 I don’t think Worlds finals is as predictable as people are saying, especially how good someone like Tymon tends to do under pressure
