Thank you ! This version without commentary is perfect, and it's nice to have the purest form, without subjectives modern interpretations. Great job!

I’m not a Sanskrit scholar, but I’m aware of the widespread belief that the Yoga Sutras must be read through a commentary, by Vyasa or anyone building on Vyasa, or else many passages will be incomprehensible. This translation significantly weakens if not contradicts that belief. Thank you!

An understanding of Sankhaya philosophy is helpful. But reading the Bhagavad Gita which explains yoga philosophy and Sankhaya is found right there. This helps in understanding the yoga sutra s here without varying interpretations. Even the Buddha practiced Sankhaya. So early Buddhism is similar but without the Self concept.

Question to the group and the host. The 5 changing states of the mind is said to be detrimental or non detrimental to the practice of Yoga. Those changing states of mind are listed as: Right Knowledge, Error, Imagination, Sleep, and Memory. My question is how is Right Knowledge detrimental to the practice of yoga? And how is Error non detrimental to the practice of yoga? I can see how imagination, sleep and Memory can be both detrimental and non detrimental.

Hi, Good question. It's because the objective is to still the mind, or more literally to ignore the mind alltogether so it no longer disturbs Your peace, Your silence, Your stillness of Being(stillness of body), Your sitting-and-just-BEing(stillness of mind & body), where, in-which, Your awareness expands. Therefore even right thinking, is still a state of thinking, thus disturbing the peace and thus, the connection, or Yoga, with the peace of the silent mind, The Divine life-force, The Creaton Power, because it is interrupted by the change of state from thoughtless-awareness-meditation to the 5 other possible states mentioned; sleep, memory, imagination, right, and wrong thinking (or right, and wrong knowing). Does this answer Your question Friend? When the mind becomes quiet, in the silence, awareness expands, and One realizes they are not this body, not this mind, but Something much greater and more permanent..., the Spirit. It's that Spirit that can connect, or yoke, to The Great Spirit (the American Indian's word for The Divine) So in thoughtless-awareness-meditation One can become much more aware without the pertabations of the changing states of the mind, or the thoughts, distracting and distorting Our awareness, and with that undisturbed clarity of awareness, One's subtle senses are empowered and can sense, unite, connect, or yoke (yoke is the literal meaning of the word yoga, to unite, or be joined to) to the Divine all pervading animating force of life, The Divine Creative power.

@ I certainly appreciate your response but you didn’t answer my question about how error is non detrimental to the practice of yoga but you are absolutely correct about the final goal of yoga being the stilling of the changing states of mind and this can include even right knowledge. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insight into my question!🙏🏾✌🏾
