The Yorkshire Dales is home to outstanding scenery, a rich cultural heritage and a breathtakingly peaceful atmosphere. At its heart are three very special Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Forest of Bowland and scenic Nidderdale.

I live in Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Just short of three years ago we had the UCI world cycling championships here and the Dutch contingent were the most memorable. Your people made an encampment in the woods just north of the centre, with their motor caravans, and made a lot of friends here. They dressed in bright orange outfits, police men and beefeaters. They were a lot of fun, great sense of humour.

The wife and I recently returned from our first trip to England last week, which included a tour through the Dales National Park. We are so thankful to have experienced the beauty of this great land and the warmth and kindness of its people. We were prepared to be charmed but had no idea that Yorkshire was so wonderful in so many different ways. We are already plotting our next adventure in the Northland of England, and are grateful to the great people of England for everything (we are from NC in USA).

These videos only show the best locations for obvious reasons. There are many locations in Yorkshire that are not so pleasant , particularly in the post industrial mill towns. The Dales is a very expensive place to live , and is a national park , which has thankfully prevented it from becoming spoiled. There are plenty of folk here who would swop places with you. Kind regards from the UK.

@@MaidenCanada The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence (particularly if you are a wabbit) : an obvious truism , and yes you are totally correct. Let’s hope we get back to some semblance of normality so you can come back to the UK , where you will be most welcome.

@@calderdale6795 But I love how greener the grass is over there :) I could see myself living in Malham Cove! All kidding aside, I have seen areas of the UK , some not a very pretty shade of green, just like here in Canada. I do hope as well that we can get back to as normal as normal can be for us all. The locals are so willing to offer advice and guidance on my walks and trails. I feel that the yorkshire welcome is like no other. It makes you feel special and eager to return. I love this area and there is always a new trail, attraction or village to visit. The only sadness I ever feel is leaving. I enjoy seeing this county throughout the change of seasons. I miss you Yorkshire! I miss the quaint tea shoppes, the drystone walls, the kirkyards with their scribed stones, the castles, grand halls, cobblestones lanes, farm shoppes where the butchers have hands like hams, bus rides that made me laugh for glee as they tumbled across moors and through narrow lanes, accents so broad, and the shop girls asking Are you all right lov? How I miss it all. Lambs newly born, then leaping through pastures green, daffodils poking through late snow, grey stone houses, charity shops, bells ringing, milk on the doorstep, rooks in treetops, ginnels, kissing gates, steeples, slate roofs, newts in ponds, Hebden Bridge, Harrogate, Halifax, Thursk, Haworth. ♥️

@@dinerouk what a crass remark from someone with more money than sense and little understanding. I have been visiting the Dales up to 2 months a year for nr on 1/2 a century, well known by my Dales farming friends. I became interested in buying a remote farm (2nd highest) and only didnt through respect for those friends - I didnt want to be seen as an 'oftcomin' - one who takes Dales property away from locals but not fully resident and adding to the economy, fully integrating So, to me (and most visitors), the cost of 'affordable' lodgings has always been critical My criticism of BB pricing applies to all modern BB 'businesses' removing 'affordable' holidays from the reach of enthusiastic National Park supporters, who would otherwise offer the trade to retailers, pubs coffee shops etc who now struggle, having to rely on the wealthy 'fine weather' brigade. My support has always been, not just year around, but predominantly ( 'low season'/ less popular) when pubs etc Really struggle Unlike Peter Day there are tens of thousands of would be National Parks supporters who have been priced out of their beloved 'home' I charge £15 / night for medium term houseshare in a stunning Northants remote farmhouse, not the now more typical £80 (incl £3 breakfast) to be found in National Parks - I was paying a very sensible £30 in the Dales not so long ago.... So, Mr Day, I do not 'stay at home counting my money' but stay in / support out National Parks for as many weeks a year as I can afford Kindly keep your selfish remarks to yourself!

I am miserable. I live in Australia but have always known I wanted to live in Britain. My father came from Halifax. We visited the Dales in September 2017 and thankfully my husband fell in love with the place as much as I did. The hope of living here when my husband retires and the children have fledged is what keeps me going. We are in the midst of the worst heatwave since records began with no significant end in sight. I love cold weather (it gets down to -7c overnight here in Winter) and the Winters are so short, as are Autumn and Spring. Summer lasts for about 6 months now which is a huge change that has happened in the last 20 years or so. Husband got bitten by the world’s 2nd most venomous snake last year but survived. Won’t miss the snakes at all. Won’t miss anything much except some of the people and family.

Tourist Information offices in places like Skipton, Grassington, Leyburn, Settle, & Richmond will help you find overnight accommodation easily. @TrailBlazer65 There's nothing whatsoever miserable about it... The winters are bracing in the Yorkshire Dales! The moorlands become dark, brooding blankets, breathtaking in their opposition to the powerful slate-grey skies. The Dales' villages, isolated islands of light and warming hearths nestled in the nooks of the terrain. Places where one can take a long, lingering moment to listen to the gentle rippling rainfall, or the myriad babbling brooks that meander down from the heather soaked tops. One would have to be dead inside not to appreciate and love the stark beauty of the wintering Dales of Yorkshire! They have a power and grace that no sunshine could ever out do.

The Dales - beautiful - the mist, the rain showers falling in the distance over the hills, the rays of sunlight that pop through a cloud and briefly light up a lush field and an old farmhouse, the sheep, the mud, the puddles and streams and rivers, the old walls that separate fields, the views, the blowing wind and weathered trees and the solitude, the tranquility, a sense of power from a land that knows itself.

The UK is much more beautiful than I thought it was. In the past year or so, I have collected thousands of quality pictures of various countries, including the UK. There are wonderful medieval villages, towns and buildings in the UK. You would think it was France. The nature is also quite nice. A big surprise if all you've heard about the UK is London and rain.

although a large portion of the UK is London and rain. the only decent placees to visit are London (if you're into the whole 'grey city' thing with the history) or the 15 national parks.

Only like 0.71 percent of the UK is London though, there's so much more like Edinburgh, bath, Yorkshire, west country, Cotswolds. London also isn't just a grey citt

I’m an Australian and Yorkshire is my most favourite place on earth to be, I married a Yorkshire lass and would love to live there, even for 12 months. Finding it hard to get a sponsored visa for work
