A UHF broadcast station local to the Washington D.C. area, WNVT in Goldvein, VA ran Abarembo Shogun regularly in the early to late 1980s; I haven't seen these episodes in years! But I still have aircheck episodes on Beta tape tucked away somewhere. My younger brother and I woukld have sake ready, raise cups of sake when the inevitable showdown with the villain transpired, and they'd strike up the rousing theme music. Another epic period drama which hews to a formulaic structure is Yaburebugyō , or the torn Magistrate. So many happy memories!

I have been to Kunozan which is located near Shimizu city Shizuoken ken. The scenes on the beach are located in Miho no Matsubara where my wife grew up. I really like watching this series and one of my wife's friends is part of the Tokugawa family.
