I was in 9th grade when this was going on. Exactly it reminds me of Vietnam. The songs and the lyrics from back then were about love, peace, diversity............. It is bringing tears to my eyes ........ :-)

Jessi Collin Young of "The YoungBloods" had such a smooth and calming voice. He was the epitome of the "Peace and Love" generation. I love this song because the message is as relevant today as it was then. Hippies and Flower Power ruled the time. Thanks for another memory. Such a mellow song.

One of the best things from the 60's is, the great "anti-war" music that was written. There are a lot of songs along this line, all written in protest of the Vietnam war. I was just a toddler when this hit the air waves, and I can't tell you how many times this song has ran through my head, radio, and life. If there was ever an anti-war cry, this song is it.

Classic 60's peace song! I was 14 and remember the news telling how many were killed that day in VN, so sad. Chet Powers aka Dino Valenti /Jesse Farrow, was also a member of Quicksilver Messenger Service, he wrote and sang lead on a lot of their songs, including one you reacted to, The Truth. His What About Me, is a powerful song that covers about everything! Thanks KK!

The difference between hippies of the 60s and today's hippies is the music! You could express yourself through music then. Not so much today. ☮️

This song is a song for a generation in the late sixties during the war I was good friends with Jerry corbitt who was on the left in this picture for while when I was out west I use To cook at the rock inn and lake Elizabeth California Jerry used to come in regularly have me cook up deer sausage for breakfast that his father would send him from Massachusetts sounds funny but it's a true story I went to his wedding he married one of the waitresses at the restaurant I still wonder if there together he was a fun guy Great song has a very special sad meaning for me due to a loss of a young person right when the song 1st came out but I still enjoy listening to it and it makes me think of jerry and wonder how things are going in his life along with Jesse colin young lead vocals this song is an anthem thanks for spreading the music.

The sixties were a time of great change, great music, great innovations, great thinking, great fashion and some dark times. We had a conscription ballot for young men aged 19 and that included me to go and fight in Vietnam. Fortunately my birthday date was 28 and it never came up. But a lot of my school friends did get called up and some died .... It should never had happened.

So VERY tragic Joe... honestly... ive met an befriended so many veterans... including my "bubs' Jerry Kirk... my life long family friend, family doctor....town hero... everyone's favorite uncle... i miss him terribly... he passed away 2 years ago... but not without leaving an indelible mark of what Vietnam was for him and so many others.. I have photos.. patches... letters, chits, a hat, pendants... but i would give anything to talk to my bub again just for a minute,

It was first released in 1967. It hit the pop stations on the reissue, hitting #5 on the month we landed on the moon. If you haven't yet, check out the movie "1969" with Winona Ryder, Keifer Sutherland, and Robert Downey Jr. It isn't an excellent movie but it IS a very good movie with a spectacular soundtrack. I am not positive in my recollection, but I think the movie largely ignores the landing.

Just a tip. When making one of these videos, don't interrupt the song for long periods while you stare blankly at the camera, read comments, or vocalize any random thoughts that come to mind. Listen to the entire song and leave the other stuff for the end.

Can someone say Hypocrisy? Just for the record, Freedom ain't free. And speaking about Hypocrisy, why won't Jesse Collin Young (AKA Perry Miller) bury the hatchet with former music partner, Lowell (Banana) Levenger and allow his soothing, smooth, cosmic and very much blissful guitar gifts to compliment Jesse's voice for the world to enjoy once again? How about it, Jesse?
