I was an 18 year old girl in high school and all the boys we hung around with got drafted. They were all excited about going to Vietnam and "kick ass". Only 2 came back ; one hooked on heroin, the other committed suicide. The rest we couldn't even bury as there were no remains. I remember seeing them off, one by one, as they left. Haunts me to this day and this song brings me peace when I hear it. God bless all Vietnam Vets.

i saw this performed live around 1968 in the bay area , california . the youngbloods were on stage and someone came up and whispered something in Jessie's ear . He broke out into a huge smile and began to sing . near the end of the song he began to cry . he had just found out that his wife has given birth to their first child . it was the most emotional performance of this song i have ever heard.

Omg ...I remember being in the back seat of my older brothers car, it was a purple roadrunner, and the window's were down and it was a beautiful sunny day. He had to leave for Vietnam the next day. This brings back so many feelings and memories of that time in my life. Beautiful song and so heart felt 💓 I used to go into my brother's closet when he was in Vietnam and smell his clothes because I missed him so much. I remember my mother crying when the news came on every night. He is gone now. This song " remembers when ".

Actually, tune was released in summer of 67, and played on the air on underground stations like The Marconi Experiment in Phila., Pa. Then it was rereleased in late Summer of 69 , right after WoodStock mid-8/1969 , and became a big hit on the AM stations like Philadelphia's Famous 56 WFIL! In fact, in early 10/1969 it was played on Dick Clarks American BandStand , which I watched religiously for nearly 16yrs. , . Show came on @1PM on channel 6 ABC network. I 1st heard on WFIL @ late 8/1969 @ 12yrs.old , or young. Jesse Collin young was a great musician , and underated; should of been @ Monterey POP Festival , along with The 13th Floor Elevators, Standels, Human Expression, Cream, , and Chocolate WatchBand, and the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Turtles, Troggs, Music Machine, The Seeds , and Count 5. They had concerts in a parking lot under a bridge it was a Rainy Night not many people showed up. the band invited the small crowd up onto the stage. You know my Brother joined the Army, because of people like you. At the time I thought it was because he got married and was starting a family. But we were talking about it the other day. That's not why he joined. He's older than me and as a child I didn't know what war was. I found out about it a few years later. And what the people did to our Vietnam Veterans and I was outraged. That was why my Brother enlisted. He couldn't stand the way the Veterans were treated. He stayed in the Army until he retired. He was in the Gulf War. I was so glad when he retired. Most of the time I didn't know where he was or what he was doing. He doesn't talk about it much. But there were just a couple of things he told me about. One when he was deployed to the demilitarized zone over in South Korea. And something else that happened when he was in the Gulf War. I really do want to thank you. My Brother-in-law was in the Vietnam War. And to think of that kind, gentle soul being put through that when he came home, broke my heart. He fit into our family so well. He's passed away but I know he is with my Sister who passed away a year before him. May God Bless you, Sir.

Being as objective as I possibly can, we had the best music of any generation, which would be the baby boomers, ie late 50’s through the 70’s. Just think of all the great groups that came through while we were in junior high through college plus a couple years after. This was definitely one of them. We have been truly blessed with the music we grew up with. Thank you God.

09.06.2023 I'm here because I heard this song today while scanning through the stations. I've heard it many times, but today I seemed pressed to find out the name of the song & band. So when I got home, I went to Lyrics search, as I could only remember a couple of lines. Well, actually it's a pretty simple song w/only 2-3 basic lines. 😂 I'm from the 60's, born in 1957 & love/enjoy most of the 60/70's music. Never been anything like it since & never will be. ☮️✝️♥️✌️

They are playing these old songs on the radio but you have to find a good oldies station to hear them. Back then there were no stations that just played a specific genre. They played the top 20 from every genre on the old AM stations. They really mixed up blues, soul, R&B and rock. Look for WLS in Chicago in the 60’s here on KZbin and you too can hear what we heard. 😊

Originally recorded by the Kingston Trio in 1964 and done later by David Crosby before he joined the Byrds and also done by Jefferson Airplane on their debut album (before Grace Slick joined the group). Written by Chet Powers whose stage name was Dino Valenti. He went on to be the lead singer for the San Francisco group Quicksilver Messenger Service. This Youngbloods version of Get Together was produced by Felix Pappalardi who also produced Cream's Disraeli Gears, Wheels of Fire and Goodbye albums *and* was the bassist/vocalist for Mountain. Great songs have great ingredients.

I was 18 yrs old and also living in the Height Ashbury district San Francisco. Our generation went down in history because of what we stood for " PEACE and LOVE" movement. It was so beautiful and magical I remember young babies and children roaming free in their nakedness. It wasn't a big deal because we were free spirited and most of us would get nude ourselves. Dancing in Golden Gate Park as well as in the streets. The aroma of incense filled the air mixed in with Mary Jane. We tried to make a positive impact and difference in the world displaying love and peace for all of humanity. We tried but unfortunately we failed. We are old now with these precious and powerful memories we have been truly blessed to have been a part of this era and lived the very best of our lives. I am now 73 I look forward to leaving this world because of the way it has become now. The generations of the 70s and 80s get it....but the 90s and 20s generation have no idea what they are doing. This world will never be as we tried to make it become. It's very sad that those we love especially our grandchildren and great grandchildren will be left behind to endure of what's coming in this world that is full of hate and evilness.

I know there's somebody out there that can relate to this story. I met a great guy last summer, that was so full of life, with a good sense of humor,he shared his ideas and his goals. He could do anything from work on homes to playing the guitar. With lots of energy there was nothing the man couldn't do. Dealing with the loss of his father at the age of ten,an only child, his mother got sick and became bed ridden with not being able to afford a place he became homeless. As if it couldn't get much worse,he got hooked on drugs. Only so much you can do,for giving him $ would just fuel his addiction. Left him with some words of wisdom in the end of last summer to think about in faith that he would turn his life around. I prayed for him, hoping to see his smile again for another summer but God must of needed him more. He passed away from a battle that he couldn't beat. If a good friend comes into your life with an issue, help them with all your heart. I love you buddy, this song is for you. RIP David Wolfe,1968 - Spring 2024.
