The Youngest Living Medal of Honor Recipient: Kyle Carpenter’s Story

Retired Marine Cpl. Kyle Carpenter reminds all of us of why America is worth fighting and dying for.
In 2010, Carpenter was severely injured after diving onto a live grenade to save his friend while fighting in Afghanistan. He would become the youngest living recipient of the Medal of Honor.
“I would encourage future generations - not everyone has the freedoms and the peace, and the chance and hope for democracy that we have here,” he said. “Don’t go through every day thinking that we’re just here because we’re here. No. We got here because of incredible amounts of courage and sacrifice.”

Modern militarily rewards like these are pathetic compared to what it took to earn the swords and oak leaves. This action would have earned him a wounded badge 1st class and a angry lieutenant asking why he didn't just move away instead.

Mentally he’ll recover. He’s not broken he was just wounded mentally and physically. A lot of people see something that can be fixed. I see fire in his eyes as he’s survived knowing full well he took that enemy grenade and shielded his brothers from the explosion and shrapnel. If you look him up now he never lets his bad experience get the better of him. He’s living life to the fullest and had become an inspiration to myself and other Marines. We all know his name and what he did. We can only strive to be heroic and follow his example. And more importantly we can come back from it if we put in the work just like he did.

This video got me thinking about my grandad. He was a medic in the army back in Vietnam. When in battle, he watched his best friend die in his arms. Wanting to prevent that from happening to anyone ever again, he saw a man shot farther down the treeline. Running over to save him, my grandad got shot twice in the head. Luckily his helmet deflected most of the bullet, so by a miracle of God he was saved. Thank you all that have served this great country and thank you Heritage for sharing this man's message.

I live next to Marine Corps Base Quantico and the men and women who serve there are outstanding -- Kyle’s story is amazing and inspiring, and completely consistent with the Marines I know. He is actions remind me of the great Biblical line: “Grater love hath no man than this, that a may lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13).

Sam P. Shut up lol, I hate idiots like you lol. If you really knew war, honor and valor, you wouldn’t be saying the marines motto only. He even literally just described everything the Medal of Honor stands for and your dumb attention seeking ass screams “semper fi” lol

@@Jesuschristitsjasonbourne3 There's more than mottos there. It's how we lived our lives. Do a little research on the battalion and you'll understand why I wrote that. Then again, nevermind... keyboard warriors like you don't take the time to read and learn. Hell, I'm surprised that you didn't call me a racist! @@Jesuschristitsjasonbourne3 hey man, you might wanna tone it down with that kinda talk. everyone in this comment section needs to be a little more humble than to say the least I mean hell they guy the video is an amazing dude who deserves your attention and respect so stop bitching about someone who said the Marine motto and say something nice. Or just don't speak maybe a lot of people don't understand the old saying "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say it".

Listen to any interview with this absolute badass. He's not only humble, but such a gentle person in his manner of speaking and presenting his ideas. Very articulate, intelligent, and composed. A true testament to the quality of not only the Armed Forces, but for the amazing people that America produces that often go unnoticed because they're drowned out by the crazies our culture also produces that get all the attention.
