Songfacts: The Zombies recorded this in one take after they won a talent contest at their college called the Herts Beat competition. The prize was a recording session. The group signed to Decca Records, and their keyboard player Rod Argent came up with this song for the session. It tells the story of an alluring woman who won't be tied down to one man - the singer wants to tell us all about her, but he can only use words, since she's not there.

Apparently one reason they weren't as ultra popular as The Beatles and Stones etc..was they lived near London...St. Albans, and they tended not to be staying/hanging with and partying with The London Crowd. Very important band, early part of the British Invasion that The Beatles ushered in. Their most famous song is probably "Time of the Season". "Tell Her No" is a good one too. Btw, most of these early/mid 60's videos were appearances on various tv shows. Queen is credited with making the 1st real music video a decade later with "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1975. However The Beatles did make a couple of promo type music "videos" in the 60's.💙🌿 Speaking of Queen, I'm dying for you to do "Dragon Attack". It's their funkier side & you NEED to hear the studio version, it's so good. Then if you followed that with the live Montreal version, what a treat that would be! It's really one of those songs that's worth doing both!💙🌿💚

Time of the Season by the zombies is amazing and Tell Her No is also another fave of mine!

If you’re going to do another Zombies song it has to be “Time of the Season!” You can’t do this and not that one.

The keyboard player was Rod Argent who went on to form the group Argent after the Zombies broke up in the early 70's. They had several hits as well, Hold You Head Up, God Gave Rock and Roll To You.

Oh yes ! I was there when it first came out, listening to this on my transistor radio, the summer before 7th grade, sounded better on my parent’s stereo in the living room. I am missing my parents and the 50’s and 60’s. 🥺

I was born in '63 ... I can remember as early as about 1967 ... definitely '68. But this is probably the first time I've ever seen them in a video. I used to hear them on the radio a lot. I had a big clunky metal portable Panasonic radio ... I loved that radio. Yeah the 1960s had a lot of things going on, but, I was just a kid.

This song is 64 years old, and yet it's still timeless.

Now you are talking. This is from my youth. They are awesome. The best music! 60's, 70's, 80's....the best. It was a magical time. Glued to the radio to hear the next song. Beatles and the British invasion was magical. You had to be there to understand how boring some music was (Motown exception) and then BOOM, these guys came. All we had was TV and radio and movies....it was so freaking exciting.

The Zombies had a handful of hits during the 1960s. About a decade ago, the band reunited, and recorded a new album a few years ago. Also, a few years ago, The Zombies were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Here on KZbin, there is footage of their interview on a CBS morning program (I cannot remember if it was on "CBS This Morning", or on "CBS Sunday Morning"), followed by a musical performance by The Zombies.
