There are no bad products,only bad prices. Ecoboom/Puretech is absolutely fine if you understand they are high maintenance blocks and price accordingly when you/if you decide to buy. Certainly lots of folks not in the industry don't have a clue,and are hoping for top dollar. Yes there are specialist wetbelt companies that can do fords at £650/ PSA for £450. That's what I've just done, and I bought a 66 plate 1.0 ecoboom for £1750.All in all with servicing costs that's a fair price. I'd have loved a yaris /auris/corolla hybrid but they cost 3 times as much,and I don't have that sort of money.

I'd avoid (and do) the eco boost fiestas, plenty of cars about that don't blow up, dropping the sump and cleaning the strainer is too late as the belts had it, only good thing about having a look is hopefully it's got a new one on. I'd deffo not find customers who'll be willing to pay for a belt, or part pay, they want it all sorted in the price, I'd have passed on both cars tbh.

Had my 2017 Focus ST2 2.0 Ecoboost engine go bang on me in early 2022, leading to a fault claim on insurance after it spewed oil across the dual carriageway (with no hard shoulder at 11PM at night). Police came across me within 15 minutes and called national highways who cleared up the oil then claimed on my insurance for doing so.... 1st fault claim. Car engine was knackered and insurance wouldn't pay out, was worth around £10k-£12k at the time and ended up selling it to copart for £4k as a non-runner... took a huge loss. Mechanic reckoned the engine had thrown a rod, and when he came to inspect it, he said there was a large hole in the top of the engine block and more outside of the engine than was in it. 13 months later, 4 months after getting my new car, parked outside my house, bang, car was hit by a delivery driver in a rental van who never stopped and left details, simply drove off. Not traced thanks to no reg being captured so guess what? Yes - that's right, another fault claim! As a result my insurance went from £1,500 to £4,500 after almost 12 years on the road with a clean license, and having achieved pass plus exceeded grade a month after passing my test.

This wet cam engine design is a disgrace, not the first time for poor design and not just Ford. Used cars nowadays are getting as risky as wnen cut and shuts and zip in the roofs were in circulation. To an unsuspecting used purchaser and even to the trade a huge financial risk. I had great fun in the old days, I've seen a px jag with big end journals packed with brown wrapping paper, a Beetle with a can lid pop riveted over a hole in a piston, pressure hose breaching corroded brake pipes and many more in the swinging sixties, the icing on the cake was working for a British Leyland main distributor in the days of Red Robbo and Michael Edwards. I change the oil ( 5-20W) regulary at 6000 mile intervals and only use premium unleaded fuel. Are VW golfs Mk7 any good?
@peterdownes82754 ай бұрын
Good . They suffer from rear water leaks from several areas. Apart from that I had a 2014 1.6tdi bluemotion for 3 years with 100k on it and that was all I could say bad about it.

Eco boost engine, avoid. Wet belt system is crap. Apparently the beer models have a chain driven system instead of a belt. But what an absolute own goal by ford.

the 1.25 zetec engine is really good,but the emissions let it down and you're paying £200 extra a year on road tax,even more if you have to frequent the pesky CAZ zones.All adds up at the end of the day. cars built from 2012-2020 there is almost no escape from wetbelt! As I said before the aygo/C1/107 and the 1.8 prius/auris/corolla blocks are by far the best on the road,but boy do you pay a premium.

If you just unblock the strainer the belt will probably break within six months.
