What does senpai mean?

In japanese culture, a senpai is someone you refer to as your superior, or someone who is older or more experienced within the same area or field as you. If you were in 9th grade in japan you refer to an 11th grader as your senpai, your superior. If you are brand new to the work force, your senpai is an older, more seasoned or experienced veteran.

@@user-pt2lf2lq5o Japanese word for "upperclassman." It's what you'd call a schoolmate who is in a higher grade than you, or a coworker who has more experience. In anime, it's a very common trope to have a younger character idolize an older "senpai" and hope to be acknowledged/noticed.
