@easygoing496410 ай бұрын
with enough experience it's actually pretty easy to play any song that has nice flow and progression,in a split second you could already tell where it'll go and immediately adapt,and mostly you'll only need to use some basic and common patterns to fill it in.
@eufrik2 жыл бұрын
he's gotten so used to noticing little details to help him predict patterns and breaks in the beat and actually remembering them, it's really fun to see. like the first rest at 0:53, he tries to predict it coming at 0:59 (giving it a "test run" by breaking snare but keeping kick and then making a mental note of it) before finally nailing it at 1:04 and the succeeding ones. he then keeps the "test run" fill he did at 0:59 as a stylistic choice throughout the same parts. all that thought process on the fly! too fun!

Something interesting is what he said at the end at 3:40 where his favorite section was when the drop would come and the action of the drop he describes is very much like what happens at "High Tide" where before the High Waves crash in, the sea pulls out. It's a interesting note to the Producer of the song, ZSunder ( kzbin.infoUgkxExHorDti5C97dM2xQer8t2buPN82O1AA ) - who has a lot of background remixing K-Pop songs.

the improvisational ability of rhythm instrumentalists i find is sometimes even better than that of melodic instrumentalists which i assume is because they have a stronger understanding of conventional song structure n when there are gaps. either way, though, jerod just has a real knack for listening n adapting, which has really developed over his years of being exposed to tons of other kinds of music.
@TheatreHead2 жыл бұрын
you nailed it, it's all structure and familiarity. When songs follow popular chord progressions, melodic instrumentalists can improvise in their sleep. But yes, your assumption is correct, and it's proved by the reverse: a lot of songs that don't follow conventional structure (e.g. suisei's ghost or stellar stellar), really trip him up. For a really unfair blind play, Mumei's "a new start" makes him stop completely because of a meter change.
