can you do a video on how you got planning permission to live on your land.
@jennyfernandez895
@jennyfernandez895 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! That’s the key step that is missing. Without knowing how to get planning permission the videos, whilst beautiful and instructive, are not particularly helpful.
@wemuk5170

There isn’t much point in him doing that because every council is different in some respects in terms of its detailed requirements for the relevant planning permission. Where you plan to live off grid will probably be different to where he lives (south Lincolnshire).

In Australia, collecting rain water is very important in the bush. We dont have to worry to much about freezing pipes though. Most tanks are plastic, some are concrete, some are corrugated steel. Usually we just dump gravel on the ground and level it to make a base. Two of ours are on slab though. When it comes to laying pipe underground its often much less mess to use a ditch witch. It looks like a big chainsaw and cuts a neat narrow channel. You can hire them here. When i need to clean out the tanks i just tip them over and scrub them out. The lids on ours are removeable. We use a leaf blower to clean out the guttering. Very quick and easy. Aussies have rain water collection down to a science. You would do well to research there for good tips.

@@The_OffGridFamily No worries. Rain water is so much nicer. Better cups of tea, better laundry results, better showers. Filtration is a good idea to avoid your water heater getting gummed up. Most people use an external water pump so it's easy to get to. They usually last about ten years if you get a good one. If they run dry its a pump killer. We subsidise our rain water with bore water. We let it settle in the smaller tanks before gravity feeding it to the main tank. Gets rid of most of the sediment. Try to keep it simple. Gravity is your friend. Never breaks down. Use it as much as you can.
@shortbits23

You would certainly need to use filters here in the UK, the rainwater can be full of nasty chemical pollutants, particularly if the wind is driving the rain from continental Europe.
@joschmoyo4532
@joschmoyo4532 Жыл бұрын
@@shortbits23 Goes without saying. Unless you live somewhere very remote where the tree's filter out a lot of the contamination. Settling tanks are the best way to get rid of sediment but soluble stuff, no.

I’m glad you’re posting again. We’re going through the same journey on so many levels, sharing the same experiences. I’ve been tempted many times to create a similar channel, but I’m not sure zu want to ‘put myself out there’ like you do, for the same reasons you’ve touched on very often. When the ShtF it may be better to be really off-grid, but I do appreciate everything you do share.

We got a 5000ltr low profile tank this year. It's sitting in a pit waiting until it's half full before we can backfill in around it. It's a backup for when our spring runs dry. Luckily the arrangement of buildings and where the tank is means we can gravity feed into it and then will pump out and into the filtering system that was already in place for the spring. For garden use we're also setting up a string of IBCs.

What a coincidence, I have just been watching another young couple who are off grid like you and have been without a water source for 2-3 years. This week's video they start to sort that out. They are using a water maker going to an underground tank. So, this week is placing the tank, running the pipe and cables. Next week is the water maker install. I am not sure what make/type of water maker that they are going to use. If you're interested the couple go by the name of Ambition Strikes on YT and they are in the USA. Thank for posting, shame you missed the April showers

Wouldn't have nothing to do with anything on the tel lie vision programming .. ain't watched that garbage for 20 years.. it's funny really I never knew there was a pandemic lol while everyone else was running round jabbing themselves up for what..😂 your doing the right thing, I'll be doing the same soon.. as I'm not interested in being part of the digital slavery system coming in soon .. cbdc and social credit system.. and the 15 minute city's/prisons no thanks .. just wondered if you've looked on the here for (making your own methane) and (converting a generator to run on methane). seeing as you'll have loads to put in a methane biodigester .. great what your doing for your family it'really is the only way to live! All the Best

great video guys x, great job no the water tank, hope you don't mind me saying, I would probably seal up the top of the tank where all the pipes go in to stop the midges getting in, I would also put a separate breather pipe with some mesh on it, to stop any vacuum buildup, well done guys and keep up the great work ❤

When that wood around the tank rots your going to start loosing the base under the tank unless you backfill upto the top of the tank base.

Are you filtering the rain water before it is added to the tank?
@The_OffGridFamily

We've only got mesh between the guttering and the small tanks. The rest of the filtering is done between the big tank and the house ☺️

Great idea using the strop to steady the tank as you offload👏 …… I’m not an expert. And ?? You’re both (+ Dad in this episode) doing a great job. I had to move a hot tub recently on my own. Used three scaffolding bars as rollers underneath 👍 That blue water pipe looked a nightmare. Thought you may have played the theme tune to Benny Hill there😂😬😳 Great idea using the soil pipe 👏👏 Thank you for taking the time to put this together and sharing. Really looking forward to the gasifier 👍👍👍
