The dragons in Dogma are probably my favorite rendition of the creatures in any game. Being heroes who failed to mantle God basically, really gives a tragic and hopelessness to the setting. Everything in dogma is dying, even the one overseeing it all in need of replacing.

@Ayustria Salma what do you expect? It’s a pretty old game. Actually, when it released, it was 3-4 years ahead of any other game graphically.
@lowkeyfiasco2 жыл бұрын
@Ayustria Salma fair enough. I looked it up and it didn’t even make the list of top 10 graphically impressive games for 2012. I do have a faint memory of reading an article where the devs were able to achieve something with the ps3s capabilities that no other companies could figure out or duplicate. Maybe it was performance/optimization. It performed/ran well while not being a burden or taxing on the ps3/Xbox360 hardware. Idk. It sounded like you were dissing the game at first so I jumped to defend it. That’s my fault. I think the game looks beautiful. I’m currently playing on the switch and played way back in the day and I think the game still holds up visually.

@@wannaburster It's actually extremely similar to dark souls. An eternal cycle that is likely doomed to die at the end, yet one who keeps fighting to keep the fires of life lit, even if they know they won't be able to last forever. The only difference here is one burns themselves alive while the other just sits for a long time. Well, I suppose it's debatable that DD will continue forever, unlike dark souls where the dark wins out eventually, but still. Japan really loves their eternal cycles.

As I had already said, grigori deserved more interaction with Arisen, even if it was just by "scar think" as in the beginning since the idea was dope great video man^^
@Guardian-of-Light1372 жыл бұрын
Heck they already had the pawns chatting your ears off the whole game. Would it have been to hard to make him say something once in a while? Then again that'd probably make fans dislike him. I think the amount of interaction was perfect in a way. "The choice falls not to me nor to the whims of fate. Only to you Arisen. If you would face me, seek me out and I will allow it." The dragons never truly seek to destroy the world. Their only purpose is to give you a reason to fight. Become strong in will. The will to live at any cost. By sacrificing a lover. They do not have to waste time in a fight. They know if you cannot face a dragon. You cannot replace the Senechal and be what the world needs for IT to keep living. And if you die. You assume the world is doomed to destruction. But we don't really know that. He probably just waits for the next arisen. After all destroying the world kinda goes against the point of having a Senechal to keep the world living. Etc etc. And the thing most disturbing about all this. ... There's COUNTLESS worlds all connected by the everfall. All of them have dragons and drakes. All of them. Are arisen who failed in some form or another. None of them were able to replace the current Senechal. But he had to test them. To know if they were up to the task. And if they weren't they were sent to various worlds to find another that might.
@enoctiskokorotis52362 жыл бұрын
Ok this is a good point about Grigori, in fact his few interactions with Arisen are the best in the game Now about Everfall I like the idea and hope they can explore more in the sequel for lore and gameplay as we see some monsters come out of there in one of the last cutscenes in gran soren this gives a variety of possibilities

This kinda makes me think of grigori as a stalwart hero who grew to resent his own and was given a job he didnt want but felt obliged to carry out Kinda makes the eternal cycle cooler because it seems like the dragon or the seneschal specifically looks for arisen that will carry out their task without question, or at least all arisen that become the dragon have this trait besides Daimon, n I wonder if they thought about how that applies to the player since we’re just gonna do what we’re told 9 times out of 10, and if this was considered when they were building the lore
@Aedrion-2 жыл бұрын
Yea, in an alternate version of the script, it was intended to convey that he was stalward and duty-bound to a fault and grew to resent people who took up arms and crest, only to let their courage and resolve fail them when it mattered most. When they fled, he stood his ground. And that's what got him chosen by the Great Dragon of his time. We intended to convey in the script that he took that attitude into his next life and became increasingly appalled and disgusted by mankinds lack of courage and apparent weakness. He had them in low regard until the Arisen from Cassardis, who fights for more than gold and fame and has a heart like Grigori's own. He meets his match but also his equal, and dies knowing he leaves the future in the care of one like himself.

Losing against the Seneschal awards you the trophy "servitude". I'd assume that means if the Arisen loses to the Seneschal he/she is reborn as the great dragon, Whose destiny is to choose another "Arisen" to challenge and defeat the dragon repeating the cycle. And if the "Arisen" beats the Seneschal he/she takes that position and as long as they live as the Seneschal the worlds are at peace... But using godsbane killing yourself repeats the cycle.. You become the dragon, Your Pawn becomes the new Arisen, And the next Pawn will take the next arisens place and so it repeats... At least thats how I understand it.

That was a multiple weeks-long effort on the part of myself, Jappards, five different dictionaries, and a whole lot of aspirin.

More or less, it's a framework based on both what we know of Grigori and of what we can reasonably piece together. I did my best not to embellish or put in personal hot takes beyond that. It was for narrative purposes, and setting up the reveal of the latin translation. Otherwise we know pitifully little for certain about his time before he became a dragon.

The whole god thing and becoming god turned me off from the game lore. The game play was tons of fun sadly in dragon dogma 2 they plan on getting rid of mystic knights so I'm out

Odd part to be turned off by as it is the central pillar that gives context to all the rest of the game's themes. It is an empty shell otherwise.

I have other 4k hours in this game. I'm doing a play through right now as myself and my best friend as I'm getting into streaming and am really excited! I do no commentary so you can enjoy my gameplay and the game like a movie. I do comment in some or my games on accident. @OGGooseMave is the account.

Some neat details about Grigori himself: - He was more supportive of your mission than anyone else. Despite being the primary threat of the world, he was also the one urging you to do your best. - His access to all the high end spells implies he was a Sorcerer in his previous life. Similar case with Daimon being a Mystic Knight. - If you sacrifice your beloved to him, he will actually just leave you alone. He's genuinely not even going to terrorize your new kingdom. The Griffon, Cockatrice and the cultists attacks were not even his doing. - All Dragons in general will take offense if you try and refuse to participate in the Endless Chain. It's how we got Daimon to begin with. Although knowing Grigori, he's certainly going to be less of a dickhead about it than Grette. - If you thought the Dragon's job sucked ass, imagine being the Seneschal.

Dragon's Dogma. The most depressing lore I've ever seen. If you're a regular citizen, you're under threat of dying horribly to either monsters, the Brine or the Dragon itself. Somehow, it gets _worse_ when the Dragon dies. And there's no escape. This entire infinite multiverse with endless cycles is like that for the rest of eternity. If you're the Arisen, you're even worse off. You're destined to fight the Dragon and even if you succeed, the world gets fucked over. And the endgame of it all is to overthrow and become the Seneschal, probably the worst fucking job to be part of in any video game. Don't try to take a third option and refuse the cycle either. Daimon found that out the hard way. If you're the Dragon, you'll be spending the rest of your existence looking for someone who can kill you while you slowly lose the part of you that made you who you are, all serving a cycle that no one, not even God finds fun. Your whole existence is a reminder that you failed to bring down your Seneschal. Speaking of which... If you're the Seneschal, you pretty much have it the worst. I mentioned their job being absolute cheeks because you're stuck in the Rift for all of eternity governing the world. You're not allowed to directly mingle with your domain since you interfering would screw the world over. And you're all alone barring your Pawn. For eternity. At least, until you get put out of your misery by the next upcoming Arisen. And pray your successor isn't a massive douchebag like the Pathfinder. You know this world is fucked up when *DYING* is considered the _best option._
