@jeffwuzhere6 жыл бұрын
Have you considered putting a commercial style ladder rack on your van? The rack would help your van to blend in as a construction vehicle when you might be in someone's parking lot overnight. It's not uncommon for maintenance work to be done after hours so police and whatnot wouldn't be too suspicious. You would also have a place to mount your carpet tube up and away from the road grime and nobody would question it as that's a very common method for plumbers to store lengths of pipe. Perhaps the best benefit though is that you could use the ladder rack framework to build a deck on, and be able to climb up top for a better view of your surroundings.
@jssaylor6 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest issue with that is the giant solar panel he already has on the roof. It takes up quite a bit of space.

I've been thinkng of building up a van from scratch for a long time now, I mean years, and I still feel that's gonna happen when the time is due. So, although I've watched more specific videos in the past about how to build one, from proper isolation to power suply and all the important stuff, yours were very interesting in other ways. Given that you're a mountain biker, you had to create a agarage for the bikes and all the stuff you regularly use, and when you started hanging around the van and living it you had to come up with all those little solutions for everyday use stuff like the pvc carpet holder (btw cheers on that!) or the clothing storage, 'curtains' and everything else. And that's a very interesting aspect of building up a van, because all those 'storage units', let's call it, define the way you're gonna live your van in the future, like decorating a house, except you get to have a full closet instead of separated bags. I don't want to take credit off the other features of the van like the bed, table, seats, but those issues often have more limited solutions, while where you keep your shoes or clothing, riding gear, etc, is a much more personal touch. All in all, cool van, and that garage, awesome! I hope you have fun in it and on the trails! Cheers!

Looks awesome, I've really enjoyed following this. One safety issue though, the way that table is stored under your bed, it could come flying out and take your head off if you have a bad front end crash!! 😮 A few other things like your camp stove could do with lashing down more securely in case of an accident. Stay safe and enjoy your travels.

I really dig this van. I primarily ride road bikes and love traveling to rallies. I could really use a camping setup like this instead of paying for motels. Excellent work by you and your buddies, I learned a lot. My only concern and I really hope you read this is that I see a real problem with hanging that pipe down underneath. I know other people have also commented about it but consider the physics you are dealing with. By having a large PVC pipe suspended into the suspension travel space you risk damaging your frame and even flipping the truck if you were to hit a high spot at speed. There is a reason not to put something like that in the plane between the fore and aft axle axis. Bottoming out into a speed bump could be a problem where you get wedged and that pipe gets pushed up into the floor. But the real issue is hitting a high spot at speed you risk major damage or even losing the truck when the impact literally lifts the entire vehicle and who knows what could happen. Research "breakover angle".

You should get something to put from the outside on the front windows when it is extrem hot. Also my grandfather built one of the boxes, that you can put on the roof of normal cars and use as a storage, that he can fix it to the bikeholder on the outside. Maybe you can do this too so you have a extra storage when you dont need more than three bikes^^
