As much as it was interesting running around with Kael'thas in Revandreth, I always felt it was a major missed opportunity to not have Arthas in Revandreth. My Forsaken warlock gets asked 'what can you tell us about this soul', and it'd be a grab a drink and a snack, this is going to be a while.

the only problem I could see is when Arthas first became a death knight he's told the blade stole his soul and explained that's why he felt no remorse or pity. To me I think that does mean his soul was split.

So basically Arthas was just another vessel in the harvester of souls that was the lich king, and when he died he carried all that harvested anima with him and was tossed into the maw, where he and all that power would be used to forge Anduin into his weapon. merging (parts of) souls together. And when it ended that sliver of anima wasn't Arthas, but the only part that wasn't absorbed?

That would make the symbolism when Anduin drew the blade towards Thrall in the War Within cinematic that much more meaningful. As he held the sword out, it definitely invoked the look and feel of Arthas as he held out Frostmourn before he summoned Sindragosa during the Wrath cinimatic. Would also explain where the part of him enjoyed doing some of the things he was forced to do.

This theory sounds good after what Anduin said along the lines of " I have no light in me , after what I've done" in the War within trailer. I wondered what he had done besides stabbing an eternal one and messing with some souls.

Accolonn, What're your thoughts on the theory that Arthas is actually Anduin's father; not Varian? This could help explain Anduin's, previously, strong connection to the Light, and Zovaal's particular interest in Anduin; perhaps Zovaal recognised Arthas bloodline in Anduin. Partnered with the speculation in this video, it could make for an interesting topic and video.

Oh that's a fascinating character dynamic. Imagine how Anduin would feel if he cant tell what is him or what is Arthas. His sin's are not his own, and we get a good glimpse of this kinda of torment in Revendreth with Kael'thas when Denathrius fused him with the sins of other souls to drain more anima, and we had to weed out what where his and were lies. If Anduin is facing this it may be just a trip the Revendreth that might set him right. Or perhaps because its only a shred of Arthas that has been left as a scar on Anduin's personality all that can be done is to root out the true part that is Anduin, and its not something Revendreth can help with. its and interesting theory and I kinda hope it is true that Arthas's soul may be in there. Myhaps fragmented though, parts of his soul have been found in other places *see frost DK artifact quest*.

Ohhh...I like this. I thought it was such a waste to have Arthas fizzle into nothing. Interesting. This could be why Jaina and Sylvanas didn't react like they would have (especially Jaina) to him once he broke free. When he goes to the maw, he was searching for....something. As he said, "...my friends, the ones I almost killed. They believe my hands are clean. But they don't feel clean." Sylvanas says "It is powerless to confuse what you are made to do with what you choose to do." Anduin: How can I not when it all blends together? IT WAS SO HORRIFIC and....EXHILARATING. And it sickens me to think that SATISFACTION **MAY** HAVE BEEN **MINE**. (capitals and asterisks to emphasize the important and really important parts.) Sylvanas: Ahh, so that's why you have come, YOU FEAR THAT YOU MAY NOT **BE WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE** Anduin: I'm starting to wonder if I ever knew, and I'm afraid if I call on the Light, it won't answer... and then it goes onto his faith in himself. He has to go think about "many things." Is he having Arthas's feelings of power, exhilarating? That he feels he is ...different....after being possessed and having that blade. Quite frankly, I'm surprised he still has the sword, I guess for sentimental reasons, history, but not because he really wants it. I'm wondering if he's going to change blades once this works itself out or he realized he may have picked up Arthas in it. You have given me things to think about.....as I said, interesting.

That would be an epic twist. And could redeem WoW's story in a lot of ways. Nothing made me angrier than how the handled Arthas in Shadowlands. It was the principle reason I stopped playing the game to be honest. My whole rp cannon for my character was a Death Knight trying to find Arthas because he thought he could be redeemed. Then Arthas turned into a sword, and then a floating wisp of light. So sad. I mean, I thought Arthas was actually going to show up and end up taking the mantle of jailer. Man, they really missed the mark. Have to stop talking about it. Ok, done now.
@edgyguy70846 ай бұрын
I dont see Denathrius stealing Frostmourne. His Nathresim have been the reason for Sargeras Corruption, and therefore the creation of the Burning Legion itself. Mourneblades and their wielders grow stronger the more souls they eat. Denathrius could have given the blade to kil'jaeden in order to feed the blade and its champion to grow to such a strong point that the Lich King could retake their Sigils. Thats also why the key to the shadowlands always was the helmet and not the Sword itself. In short: feed and grow strong through the eternal ccrusade against life itself, break helmet, retake the sigils, free the Jailer. It wont make sense for Denathrius to still work with the Jailer if he betrayed him. He clearly acted of of false/half true informations, failed and continued to work for him. Maybe Denathrius never knew that the Jailer planed to kill him...
@alusteratrocious59366 ай бұрын
I like this theory because one of my biggest gripes with how they handled Arthas I always thought they SHOULD have merged him into Anduin or at least had Anduin gaining his memories. Then this whole ptsd story they're insisting upon for Anduin would actually make sense because as it stands, all he's done is stab (not kill) a blue lady and steal a rune from a tree.
@TheAccolonn6 ай бұрын
I agree, it would actually make Anduin's arc insanely cool.
@jamesrose87786 ай бұрын
I think that's a stretch, basically to go off the stance Anduin takes with his sword. He basically does the same stance in the BFA intro cinematic. Plus with Frostmoure, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall the souls stayed with the blade, they didn't absorb into Arthas. There was that one dungeon in wrath where I think they showed the souls swirling around the blade at one point, but I don't recall a point where Arthas pulled the souls into himself or it being shown he absorbed any part of them in any way. When Frostmourne was broken by Tyrion the souls all left the blade, similar to how Arthas's soul left Shadowmourne when Anduin was defeated. Now, on the other point you made, I do genuinely believe that little soul fragment that came out of Shadowmourne wasn't all of Arthas's soul. I do think the bulk of his soul is still out there. We already know souls can be split, so I don't think its crazy to think that that was all that was left of Arthas in the least. What bearing that has on the story going forward, I don't know and wouldn't care to speculate. They seem to be setting up a big light vs void showdown, so I think Anduin having issues is going to be tied more to that. If you think about the Na'ru, they fade to shadow (or possibly void) when they've burned out all of their light. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that this could happen with people, if they use too much of the light they could possible fall to darkness in the same regard. That could be a possible explanation, that something to do with his domination burned out his light, and its suppressing itself as a means to keep him from falling to the darkness? From a narrative standpoint it would be more fitting of the upcoming theme, and would also be a "War Within" in that sense.
@paolo52976 ай бұрын
"The bulk of his soul is still out there". If this is true, then it is somewhere into the Maw. And who can find him, if not Sylvanas?

Now this is an amazing theory! It would be a major selling point and surprise for the expansion ... imagine the final trailer: The group preparing to depart and then we see Arthas as Death Knight noticing that Frostmourne hungers ... Maybe the best way for it to play out would be for Anduin witness the struggle of two aspects of Arthas, one his Paladin side(or the boy in WotLK) the other the Lich King and he would ultimately have to bring them together, mirroring his own struggle to bring together his potential to do good in the Light and potential to call the Void, while coming to terms that both sides aren't completely good or evil. It would help undo the waste Arthas's end in Shadowlands was and if not fix this expansion give a slightly different view on it. Maybe even makes us interested to return there, if Arthas goes there as full soul, carried off by Uther.

I think a correction about Zovaal turning inanimate robot when his Sigil was taken. This is not correct. Zovaals Sigil was taken to create the Arbiter-machine, and he could still operate just fine. I mean, he was chained in The Maw so not really fine but you get my point. When we see him in his Robot-form at the end of the cinematic his Sigil-orb is still in his chest. We did something when we defeated him in the Sepulcher which was beyond the Sigil. Maybe we drained all his Anima? EDIT: If you have read the book Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson (chonky book but a stand-alone story so no trilogy or anything) you know about *** SPOILERZ *** how there are some Heroes or Saints that died valiatly but are brought back to life and kept alive by feeding them Breaths. Every person has a Breath and you can sell that or add Breaths to yourself. The more Breaths you hold the better you become at Colors, Sounds, etc. Yes this sounds very much like The Emeperor being fed souls, but the people who sell or give their Breaths don't die, they just basically lose their sense of tase, smell and color vision (or at least severely reduced). If these Saints run out of Souls, they will die. I think The Eternal ones (Archon, Denathrius, Zovaal, etc) were basically the same thing as above. They needed souls/anima to stay alive and once they ran out of Anima to power them, they shut down like a robot. That is what we did during the Zovaal fight, he spent all his Anima on us so he ran out and went offline.
@SakiStargazer6 ай бұрын
That could really make sense. Especially after Anduin did the "Arthas-Sword-Move" in the cinematic. Also I think that Metzen wants to make up for Shadowlands, I'm pretty sure that he found some way of a plottwist to "get" Arthas back - so your theory could be kinda that. I'm looking forward to that, however it turns out in the end.

I believe that you are closer to the truth with this video than you actually realize. A few years ago, a German WoW KZbinr made a video about the in-game cinematic "The Negotiation" from BfA. In seconds 17 - 19 of this video you can see Anduin climbing up the tower to Saurfang. The in-game model used in this part of the cinematic is strikingly reminiscent of that of Arthas before his ascension to Lich King. And Arthas also climbed steps to reach his destiny. I was always surprised that this theme was never picked up by another KZbinr. Add to that the long-running theories that Anduin is the illegitimate son of Arthas, and there could be more to all of this than meets the eye. In my opinion, a lot more was planned with Anduin and Arthas than was realized in the end or has been realized so far. So who knows, maybe your theory is closer to the truth than you thought.

I've never really understood why people keep comparing Anduin and Arthas. The core of what seems to drive people to make the connection is superficial, the blonde hair, the fact that they're humans and are both royals. Sure they're not the kind of royals that were fifth in line to the throne or something but I don't feel that there's enough going on to make it mean anything. Yes, Arthas can absolutely be a cautionary tale for would be leaders but as far as lending itself to the story when it comes to what the audience should think of Anduin or even what Anduin should think of himself it caries no weight. To side-track a little, I chat with someone online from time to time who does martial arts. We were in discord one day and they really excitedly told me something along the lines of "i just found out today that the guy who trains me was trained by a guy who would sometimes fight with and was inspired by Bruce lee. Can you believe that i'm basically being trained by Bruce lee because of that?". They were not impressed by my reply asking what that has to do with how their teacher teaches them now. The Arthas Anduin situation kind of feels like that level of clutching at straws. It would be different if Arthas has been more of a tangible presence for Anduin but that's really something that's been possible, unless the fan theory that had been going around for years about them being father and son somehow turns out to be true but that's not much more interesting given how Anduin has been built up over the years. In that case its better to let the relationship between him and Varian be what it is rather than shoe-horn Arthas into the relationship to actually give him some relevance. There was plenty of tension and growth in the relationship Anduin had with Varian to give both the audience and Anduin plenty to chew on. I also don't like the idea that Anduin should change because he now has a literal part of another person's soul living inside of him. it makes for a great plot point for cyberpunk because cyberpunk has themes of loosing yourself - your humanity - through cybernetics anyway and there's a lot to think about with the Tarot card/ fate as a journey analogy where it all comes together where you can think of V as "yourself in the present" and Johnny as "you in the future", this especially works because the personality switch over is gradual not sudden as It makes V's impending death feel more metaphorical than literal with Johnny being a representation of a catalyst for change just like, for example, nomad V's arrival in the night city was a catalyst for change (though much more extreme and on the nose) I like that in cyberpunk Johnny being in V's head lets you explore what makes you who you are and question if you could really consider at what point present you and future you stop being distinct entities and present you is simply "dead" and gone. I don't have faith that Blizzard could pull that kind of story off in an MMO like WoW so I don't think they'll attempt it. Implanting Arthas' personality into Anduin without a good hook like you get with cyberpunk would just serve to remove Anduin's agency, you might make him look cool and give him a leadership power-up or something but it's not as interesting as Anduin legitimately just digesting the hand life dealt him and changing on his own.

He was inside his mind, speaking with that last human part of his soul and Nerzhuls, and he ran frostmourne through both of them erasing those parts of his soul. Should have been a point in Shadowlands that had us in a large-scale effort against the Jailer, with fallen allies and some former enemies, helping us on the battlefield. Kael'thas, Arthas, etc. Maybe that would be the moment Sylvanas actually turned on Zoval. There'd be a big, pretty cutscene and everything. There'd be more to it than all that, more details and moments. It wouldn't be a sappy reunion with Sylvanas fighting side by side with Arthas or anything like that. But we'd have them all over, helping us in different capacities. Something. ANYTHING other than what we got. Arthas as a little blue fart, lol.

Shadowlands happened at about year 35-36, Dragonflight in year 40. Do we know how long after Dragonflight "The War Within" will take place, as in what year in game? It states on Varian's Warcraft Wiki page that Anduin was born in year 15. So he's 25 at the time of Dragonflight. To me, Anduin in the cinematic looks much older... For Shadowlands there's this snippet of text: "Time is perceived differently in the Shadowlands." A theory ... WHAT IF the longer time spent in Shadowlands, especially in The Maw, has aged Anduin more than would be normal. Or is still ageing him further even though he's back on Azeroth...? I know it was stated there was a time skip. We (our characters) were also in Shadowlands for a time. The SAME thing of time being perceived differently might have affected us too, but here's a thought. What if we were able to get protected by Azeroth and she had no time to do it with Anduin? Also, adding that the stronger the tie is with Azeroth the more "grounded" in the real time flow a person would be. So that kept Tyrande safe when she pounced into the The Maw... Anduin was exposed longer to the "timey wimey" of the Shadowlands so he might have grown older than we realised. Or if the "magic" of the Shadowlands keeps ageing him in which case we could arrived at the situation of the "Son of the Wolf" ending (in the comic) by the end of the Saga. Maybe the battle he and Valen mention there is our final battle against the Titans which COULD reset time to normal and to the point where it all went wrong... We could "fall through time" back to before the Legion first arrived, as that's the real "time line" we're supposed to be in. However, things turn out, I'd argue that WE are a timeway too... "We do not know if the Caverns of Time have always been accessible to mortals. Truly, it is impossible to tell as the Timeless One is in perpetual motion, changing our timeways as he sees fit. What you see now may very well not exist tomorrow. You may wake up yesterday and have no memory of this place." Our "exit" is in fact another timeway that WE are repairing aka "Most mortals cannot actually comprehend what they see here" "The ones that currently exist in your reality are what the master has deemed as "trouble spots". These trouble spots may differ completely in theme but they always share a cause. That is, their existence is a result of the same temporal disturbance. Remember that should you venture inside one..." Caverns of Time is like a Swiss cheese gone rotten really...

Interesting to think what effect any merging of Arthas’s soul with Anduin would have, especially like you said after that cinematic showing that shadow magic creeping in Anduin. Wonder if that’s going to turn him into some kind of void or shadow priest? Would be great to think that they will fix or give closure to some story that felt dropped or misused during prior expacs.

This has always been my personal theory from the moment I knew they used Arthas' soul to make the sword. I thought "as soon as someone pick up that blade they're gonna merge with Arthas' soul" And then lo and behold, Anduin picks up the sword and becomes a Death Knight.

Okay bc I always thought that anduins pose when he's sitting at the beginning of the cinematic reminded me of arthas

I agree and even in the cinematic of anduin stealing that sigil his armor does look very similar to Arthas

You forgot about Ner'zhul.

How is he relevant? Ner'zhul was merged with the Armor, not with the Sword. It is said he was stuck inside the helm, the Sword was a different creation.

You kinda were all over the place this video m8!
@TheAccolonn6 ай бұрын
How so? Overwhelmingly comments seem positive, average view duration is over 60% which is mega high for videos longer than 10 mins, so clearly people enjoyed it, most of the "all over the place stuff" is fun and normal as I never script, so you get my first thoughts.

You got into your own way quite a bit with the Shadowlands parts. And not the references to Shadowlands but the apologies! You Sir always give us the best possible lore explanations and you should never apologize for Blizzard's mess ever. My feedback came from a place of "Why is he apologizing for Shadowlands?" and it was meant to be protective of your efforts to help us get a coherent story. However I failed to convey this exact message and that is on me!! Maximum love and appreciation for all the work you do for us m8! Cheers from Canada!
