Two things: the steel wire is not melting but actually BURNING. The drop that formed at the end after cooling is called slag, and it contains oxides of iron. Also, the LED you mentioned that lights up near the coil seems to be a neon tester bulb, not a semiconductor LED.

And those circuit breakers will be more like current protectors, and due to high frequency radiation, alternating voltage is induced in the mains voltage distributions and the current protector trips. The guy just doesn't know what he's talking about, but people like it.

Yup, actually it's BOILING and burning as well. Iron boils at like 5000 degrees, and since the plasma is 11,000 degrees, that's plenty hot enough to boil iron.

5:40 That's not an LED - that's a neon lamp. And if the generator induces more than 3V into a nearby LED, it'll burn out said LED. And probably the reason the generator worked on the floor probably is the steel rebar in the concrete absorbing some of the RF energy. Increased distance away from the breaker box may also help.

That green item you called an LED is NOT an LED, it is a gas bulb with argon with an internal phosphor lining making the green color similar to a neon light bulb. This is also an excellent, short-range radio jamming device.

wow for me, wiring houses and doing hvac electrical work for many years I finally understand why the arc resistant breakers have been mandated in homes. Honestly the GFCI was incredibly effective at stopping most fire hazards and there is little evidence to prove that the arc resistant ones will help much especially for the price jump. You've just shown me that special forces attack forces will be able to operate a unit similar to your experiment near homes on its own power supply to knock out power in a home before it is attacked. assuredly that tech can be built up for accuracy in targeting. no pulling a meter, no having to call an electric company and get that paper trail started, just flip the switch and darkness. makes sense

Looks like a neat way to do small welding and brazing/soldering projects. Once you get used to the way the flame attracts to different materials, I imagine it would be possible to do some very fast metal joining with minimal heat exposure.

As former ham, I can tell you have put together a 15 MHz shortwave transmitter which is lacking an aerial. By the size of the spark, it looks like you achieved between 50 and 100 Wpep - pep stands for Peak Envelope Power. In other words, your transmitter generates a fundamental frequency, plus an abnormal amount of harmonics of the fundamental - mostly odd harmonics - plus a lot of spurious frequency. When a transmitter (that you improperly call Tesla coil - it isn't) isn't connected to a properly tuned aerial, the power is fed back to the power supply, and the device will radiate radio energy from every length of wire it is connected to. Your device is saturating your house with RF energy - which is innocuous to people but can influence some sensitive equipment. With a proper antenna, an ham licence and a π filter, your 100 W 15 MHz transmitter can do a coast to coast DX QSO. You can make a professional version of your "Tesla coil" by using proper radio parts, like the Eimac 4CX250 vacuum tube.

Instead of putting it on concrete, try this instead: A solenoid is a pure inductive load, and at such a frequency it creates a phase differences between the current and the voltage, this leads to over consumption of power than is necessary, also it can sometimes lead to a sudden current surges or rushes, I think this is why the breaker is being triggered. The way to fix this is capacitive power factor correction, i.e you put a capacitive load in parallel with the circuit to correct the phase difference induced by the inductive load. You will need to calculate the required capacitance, you can find the relevant equations online.

I don't think the AFCI's on the other circuits were tripping from some sort of EMP event; otherwise, they would trip almost simultaneously. It was probably due to them sharing a common ground. The reason the device worked on the garage floor and didn't trip the AFCI's is probably due to the steel reinforcement within the concrete slab giving it a grounding path that does not return through the main panel.

If you were TIG welding in your house it would probably do the same thing. TIG welders actually have diagrams with them showing how you need the ground them properly and such and keep sensitive electronics away from them because of the high frequency arc starting.

Yes, concrete is a big sponge, and as such absorbs crazy amounts of electricity. When I worked in residential construction, they had us make sure we took any batteries we needed to use as power sources inside the house or the truck because it will sap all of the power in the battery overnight. Also for the same reason walking on dirt or grass barefoot is healthy, walking on concrete barefoot is unhealthy because it draws too much electricity away from your body. It’s nothing to mess with.

A welder has more current and less voltage. I run 17.5 volts DC on my MIG machine and about 120 amps. This is about 30,000 volts at 15MHz. Maybe .2A if that at all. This is at such a low power compared to a welder

Facinating as usual. May I point out a technical problem.? You said it correctly towards the end, but annoyingly got it wrong at the start. The high frequency does not induce a current in the breakers, it induces a high frequency EMF VOLTAGE at very little current. It is a very common misconception that current flows in a circuit. Of course it should be a voltage flows in the circuit. The current is dependent on the load, expressed in Watts. (If there is no load, there is no current at all.) An annoying by product is current. Current is not primary. I hope you don't mind me pointing this out.

That green bulb was not an LED, it was a neon bulb with a coating inside. LEDs only require around 2.5 volts to light, but neons require at least 50 - 60 volts.

At 5:48: "you can use an LED as well", then you shove an argon-filled mini fluorescent lamp near the electrode! I would expect an LED to fry!

You've probably tried making a black flame blacker by reducing the O2 content of the air. Perhaps it would slow down the flame of the reaction, resulting in a thicker black portion. I haven’t figured out the new A/F ratio. BTW, congrats on your CEP article, a good read.
