They throw hundreds of hints at RDR3 being a prequel, they can't leave us hanging. The reason why Arthur wasn't in Blackwater and why Dutch is so vague about it is pretty obvious. It's so that we play as both Davey and Mac Callander and learn what happened there. It's clear that the game is gonna be a prequel, and if that's the case, the main character/s have to be people who actually know what happenned there (Micah, Dutch and the Callander brothers)

You could do a game set in the peak of the wild west around the 1870s or 80s with a ex-outlaw slowly gaining redemption by becoming a trusted law enforcer or like a town deputy or sheriff, it’s most certainly not the best but it’s an idea at least. A good example to understand Act Man's point of a story/information to leave out to the imagination is, when Nick Fury in The Winter Soldier says the line "...The last time I trusted someone I lost an eye." That left so many questions and implications open for the audience's imagination, we thought we wanted the answer but we didnt... And when we did got the answer and learned how he did actually got the scar in Captain Marvel it undermined that powerfull scene from the the previous movie.

We could have learned how he lost his eye and it not take weight away from that scene, if they hadn’t decided to make a gag out of how he lost his eye. So this doesn’t super work as an example. This isn’t really a case of “we didn’t need an explanation” it’s a case of “the explanation we got was terrible.”
@Nickie1025 ай бұрын
@@tropicturtle9021 although, there’s also the possibility that any explanation will be a terrible one. Everyone having their own theories as silly and wild as their imagination can go. By not having an official answer everyone can be happy believing their own story.

The issue is that a bunch of writers get used to smellin their own shit they think anything they write is pure gold, even when they try to be comedic. Ex: Nick Fury should’ve lost his eye when he was betrayed, captured and tortured by a fellow colleague that he trusted, it’s that simple

@@Nickie102 Exactly, and that's what is meant by "best left to the imagination". Stories that resonate the most with people don't just tell a good story, they leave room for people to interpret things that aren't spelt out for them, which is part of how engagement works. If you are given all the answers to all the questions, big and small, it's boring. You can also go the other way and be way too vague, ask more questions than ever get answered and go off on tangents, which is why the show LOST was a huge hit when it came out, but no-one talks about it now because it's badly written trash.

I think something you can point to why the mystery is so important regarding Blackwater is the film Reservoir Dogs. Basically the entire point of the film is trying to figure out, based on flashbacks and dialogue, what happened at the heist and what happened to make it go to shit. A lot of the movie's magic would be taken away if they just showed the robbery in a scene

Funny enough, I believe the idea of showing the heist was on the table but as you said it completely ruins the movie when you know exactly what Mr. Blonde did that caused the heist to go south. I've been saying for a while that Red Dead could explore other cultures of the Wild West era. It doesn't have to be about the Van der Linde gang like fans seem to think. The only reason people keep wanting more of the gang is because they were so charismatic and immersive, but that can be done for another group of characters for future Red Dead games. I'm thinking the next main character can be either Mexican or Native American and we explore the Wild West and the redemption theme from his/her perspective. I'm also down for a Klondike Gold Rush setting where greed and migration of prospectors in search of wealth spark an incredible conflict for the main character and his family.

My brother offhandedly mentioned a genuinely great idea about the Red Dead series taking a direction similar to what GTA did with Vice City & San Andreas and dedicate a whole game to the state of "Nuevo Paraiso". They could retcon more map down south and just say John wasn't allowed to go down there so that you get more land to explore, similar to West Elizabeth in 2. It doesn't even have to be that big, (I know Rockstar would never do this but) it could just be a smaller game that requires less development time and exists to keep fans fed before their next big release.

In old Westerns made through the 1920's and 1940's, the hero(s) tend to always wear black outfits and black hats, meanwhile villains and antagonists tend to wear lighter colors and white hats to make them pop out more on black and white TV. This was really only changed with the onset of the mass popularity of the western genre in the late 1940's and 1950's and it's normally attributed that the success of The Lone Ranger series alone led to the change. In RDR2, Micah is the only one of the gang who wears a white hat the entire time, signifying he's the villain and antagonist from the start.

Instead of RDR3, I’d love for them to remaster both games, and put them as one package deal. After you beat the epilogue of RDR2, you can go to bed and an option will pop up: *Continue to Red Dead Redemption* ? Then you can play the first game with the 2nd game’s engine, graphics, and some of the newer mechanics not seen in the first game. Maybe even have the whole map from RDR2 available with new DLC side missions up in those areas. It would be nice if some of the VA’s could come back and add a couple lines of dialogue referencing Arthur or Hosea. Just make it feel like one big odyssey. Loved this video and agree whole heartedly. I know I'm late to the party, as this is two months old, but I've been thinking about this for years... Everybody loves Chapter 2. Just make Chapter 2: The Game. Go back 30 years, lose the Van Der Linde gang. We're making a new gang! Everything should be deeply customizable. Have mechanics where you build your gang by recruiting characters all throughout the world by completing story lines and missions associated with them. Choices about who you recruit will open and close certain doors in the world and your gang will reflect your personality. Some characters wont join the gang if you have certain morality scores, some characters have special storylines that you only get access to if you recruit certain other characters as well. Maybe you're building a bounty hunter posse, or a crew of cold-blooded highwaymen. Have different places where you can make camp, choose your spots, each unique with different opportunities for jobs, stories, and character developments. Maybe there's a town you can take over and become the sheriff? Maybe you can turn an old silver mine into a base for your gang of murderous outlaws? You've gotta keep the camp going with money and food, and supplies, but make it actually matter this time! No matter what you choose, have some big overarching story where your gang goes to war with a rouge confederate general who has turned himself into a king after the war ended. The themes of the game and the story should be freedom, opportunity, making your own destiny, and the inevitable conflict that occurs when dreamers with different ideals clash against each other. The ideals of the old west. Call the game - "Red Dead Revolver Returns". Have the player character be the "real" Red Harlow. That's the Red Dead I want to play next.

I genuinely think the best option for another game is, unironically, a game based around Uncle, but when he was younger. Show us that he actually was the badass gunslinger he always claimed to be because that would be hilarious if he was actually telling the truth, making all of the insults thrown by Arthur and John in previous games funnier and sadder at the same time. Then, have him end the game aging, suffering a severe back injury or something in an epic setpiece so that his Lumbago actually has a source, which makes the fact that everyone thinks he's lying even funnier. Then end the game with him falling in with a younger Dutch, skip some time then let you play as a younger Arthur to continue exploring the open world like they did with John in RDR2, give him a few quests with youger versions of other gang members, or ones we haven't met and maybe some side quest with Mary Linton and her family or something. All of this while Uncle lazes around and goes back and forth with Arthur all the time. That gives Uncle more context as a character in both games, makes his survival, reunion, and death have more impact in the previous games, and most importantly lets me play as Arthur again (please, I'm begging you just let me play as Arthur again please)

Red Dead Damnation. Yeah, the Van der Linde gang story might be over, but the IP can continue with other characters. It could be cool to see a new story that is less about protagonists trying to redeem themselves, and more about a tragedy of a seemingly "good man" being driven astray by life. Something like Breaking Bad but western. Give this protagonist a good, relatable reason to turn bad, and have his/her journey be the tragic opposite of Arthur's and John's. That type of story is even trendy nowadays.A villains origin story.
@Kenny-o6i4 ай бұрын
Game Title: "Read Dead Reckoning" Plot Overview Prologue: * From Slavery to Soldier * Opening Cutscene: The game starts with a cinematic cutscene showing the protagonist's life as a slave and their eventual escape. * Escape Sequence: A brief but intense gameplay segment where the protagonist makes their way to the North, utilizing stealth and quick thinking (introduces stealth). * Union Army Missions: A series of missions where the protagonist joins the Union Army, learning basic combat and survival skills. This section serves as a tutorial for the main mechanics. Act 1: The Outlaw Life * Post-War Setting: The main game begins after the Civil War. The protagonist returns to a divided and lawless country. * Establishing the Outlaw: Players engage in missions that build the protagonist's reputation as an outlaw. This could includes forming or joining a gang, planning and executing heists, and navigating the challenges of post-war America. * Motivation: The protagonist strives for a combination of justice, revenge for those who have wronged him, and freedom for themselves and their community (main one). Also a clear villain or maybe a couple different ones should be established. * More depth to the various characters and plot points: * Maybe add in a romance that is inspired from Django Unchained where he has to go back and free his lover or something. It can maybe only be a couple missions or it could be a big part of the game and the lover could be part of the gang that he forms. Or just his lover that lives at the gang campsite (or wherever you live). There could also be other potential lovers. * Create good antagonists and side characters. * Add atleast 1 extremely good antagonist or more. They can be as evil as we want, because this is a video game to do with slavery. And also they have to be worse than the protagonist, who is an outlaw (he is doing it to survive, but he does kill people). You can really just go all in on evilness if you want. * Open World Exploration: An expansive open world filled with towns, wilderness, and various points of interest. Players can interact with NPCs, take on side missions, and explore hidden locations. * Dynamic Missions: A variety of missions that involve robbery, duels, rescuing allies, and fighting for justice in a lawless land. The player's choices during these missions affect their standing with different factions and shape the story. * Character Interactions: Deep, narrative-driven interactions with other characters, including former soldiers, freed slaves, and other outlaws. These interactions reveal more about the protagonist’s past and motivations also brings in more characters and makes the world feel real. Act 2: Facing the Consequences * Rising Tensions: As the protagonist’s infamy grows, they face greater challenges from law enforcement, bounty hunters, and internal betrayal. * Major Heists and Showdowns: High-stakes missions that culminate in significant heists and confrontations with powerful enemies. * Moral Dilemmas: Players make tough decisions that impact the fate of their gang, their community, and their own legacy. Choices have long-term consequences, leading to different outcomes. Epilogue: Legacy and Reflection * Resolution: The game concludes with the protagonist reflecting on their journey. This segment varies based on player choices throughout the game, offering different endings that consider the protagonist’s actions and their impact on the world. * I’m thinking atleast have 2 completely separate endings, so: * 1 ending that’s actually a happy ending. Protagonist settles down and has a family. * 1 ending where the protagonist dies in a sad way. * And possibly 1 bittersweet ending. * Cutscene and Gameplay: A mix of final cutscenes and gameplay that tie up loose ends and show the long-term effects of the protagonist’s actions. And some sort of post credit gameplay. Gameplay Features * Stealth and Survival Mechanics: Crucial during the escape sequence (this is when you’ll learn about it) and useful in heists and escaping pursuers. Also adds to open world exploration. * Combat and Strategy: Engaging gunfights, strategic planning for heists, and tactical decision-making. Mainly the gunfights. * Open World Exploration: Rich environments to explore with dynamic weather, wildlife, and interactive NPCs. Should be a very engaging post civil war world. * Moral Choices: Decisions that affect the protagonist’s legacy and the game’s outcome, with multiple endings. * Customization: Players can customize the protagonist's appearance, weapons, and gang. * Realism and Detail: Attention to detail in the setting, period-appropriate clothing, weapons, and architecture to enhance immersion. * Real Deaths Mode: Also a mode where it is 1 - 2 shots and you’re dead (like in real life). You know how rockstar does the thing where you can take many shots and still be alive, unlike real life. Well we should still have that as the default, because it probably is more fun and better for the average player, but have a mode also where you only die in 1 or 2 shots, but at the same time other people should only die in 1 or 2 shots (like real life). Visual and Audio Design * Visuals: Gritty, realistic graphics capturing the post-war era’s rugged and diverse landscapes. * Audio: Period-appropriate music, immersive soundscapes, and strong voice acting to convey the protagonist’s journey. Conclusion By incorporating these elements, you can offer a rich, engaging experience that combines historical depth with the freedom and excitement of an open-world outlaw adventure. This could also work as a really good assassins creed game, but I doubt ubisoft would be able to pull it off nowadays.

Alright so a while back I heard an amazing concept for an RDR prequel. In RDR2, there is a conversation between Tilly and Arthur where Arthur says something like "We haven't had to kill anyone in camp...well there was that one time, but he was a traitor." The "traitor" would be the main character of rdr3. The game would take place before rdr2 when the gang is still being formed, but it does not have to predominantly feature the gang, since we already know how that ends. Throughout the story, the protagonist figures out just how crazy Dutch is, and he is branded a traitor and killed by Arthur as an act of blind faith for Dutch. The epilogue would be about a young Arthur. This definitely doesn't fix any problems addressed in the video, but it's still a good idea. Great video by the way Edit: This is the most likes I've ever gotten on youtube lol. Also Act Man actually replied to my comment. That's crazy lol.
@ThatNerd.5 ай бұрын
That's a really awesome idea, but the story for the character should be the "traitor" turns against the gang because he wants to save his family or reunite with his family after killing another family when doing a robbery. From there, he has a conflict within himself and the gang. See how evil Dutch is, tries to save himself, his family, and maybe others in the gang. The "Traitor" saves his family as his redemption, then is killed by Authur, completing the story and showing the start of the gang back in the 1880-1890's.

This is one of the better fan ideas I've seen. I like it. It actually makes sense that someone could suss out the sort of man Dutch really was far before the events of RDR2. There's a chance that whatever he did to the girl on the boat before the story kicked off, he's done in the past. The reason that it took them all so long to figure out Dutch was nuts in RDR2 was simple; they're all lost souls. They don't have good judgement, and they certainly didn't want to believe their leader was more lost than they were so they turned a blind eye to it as long as possible. A character that saw this really early on and worked against him... oh wait the only problem with this is you might end up playing as an O'Driscoll. Because it seems it would be Colm or someone like him that sussed Dutch out early.

It would also severely detract from the mystery of Blackwater and whether or not Dutch was always the way he was or lost his mind. He did, but he could also have been lying just to spread some in fighting. I'm of the faction where Milton told the truth. Why would he lie? I've seen a great thumbnail of him and Ross where Milton is labeled an "Honest Killer" and Ross is a "Cunning Liar." It's makes perfect sense with their characters. Milton gave the gang so many chances and none of them ever took so he killed them. Ross played John like fool doing his dirty work and killed him in the end because he learned from Milton's mistakes, never negotiate with savage killers.

Rockstar never actually made any remakes. They outsourced all their remakes and remasters to other companies, most notably Grove Street Games, who is a mobile game studio. I doubt they will stay affiliated with them for much longer after messing up GTA twice, but if rockstar made a remake in house, I have no doubt that it would be at least decent.

@@z-herb8006 It just wouldn't. Not only have we seen the ending of the gang as a whole, we've seen the ending of every member of the gang. A lot of people draw that false equivalency of "RDR2 was a prequel to RDR1, RDR3 could do the same!" without realizing why RDR2 as a prequel worked is because of how little was known about the gang. We knew the name and 4(ish) members of the fallen gang, John, Bill, Javier, and Dutch. We didn't know about Arthur or Sadie or Micah. That's why it worked, because it was more or less completely new. Moreover, we can't follow the plotline of another gang member because none of them had a redemption arc. No matter what way you try to slice it, this gang, these characters, their over. You make some interesting points about moving the story too far back or forward in history and therefore changing the overall feel of the game itself. I think a third game centered around Jack could be done successfully, but as always the wild card is the writing. Matching the depth of those first two games would be no easy feat, and I agree you would need to keep the relevance of Arthur and John's sacrifices (mostly) intact.
@michtibaldo72005 ай бұрын
I think the way we could avoid damaging Arthur and John's sacrifices and still include Jack in the game is by not making it abaut him. So he could be this inevitable gunslinger or he could be the writer he wanted to be. Perhaps a mix of the two but the game will center around an altogether different character that ends up involved with Jack in some way.
@Berserker36245 ай бұрын
For Jack I think it should take place after ww1 that way we can still have feel Wild Westish and also combine it with the modernism. Maybe have driving cars a thing along with horses, they both have there own advantages and disadvantages like cars are good for driving around in black water(by this point a massive city) and also if you do ride a horse instead of a car you get fined for doing that. Riding a horse could be good for stealth and off-roading. That’s just one example of course, with the right hands it could be a good story

Starting with a new cast and location could be invigorating for the franchise. Your point of starting with the title inspired my idea. "Red Dead Regression" could be a title for a story of someone who put the life of crime behind them and started a family only for it to all be taken from them because of their past. They end up going back to a life of crime. It could start small where the character beats information out of people and end with them being recognized as their old selves.

With the way RDR1 & RDR2 went, the only way to do another game would have to be a new story, with new characters, in a new area. It would be *INCREDIBLY* hard to pull off successfully. Does a Red Dead game have to be in USA? There are other places that were frontiers with outlaws that could deliver a similar feel. Mexico and Australia come to mind around the time RDR1 and RDR2 took place. In Australia, you had bush rangers, the gold rush, things still going on with Aboriginal folk and the transportation of convicts from England had just ended. There's lots of opportunity for a great story there. Call it Red Dead Conviction.

You could have the third setting where he is an old man. At the start of the game, he narrates to someone for his memoirs, and then you play out the stories he's narrating and every so often it goes back to him in the present talking to the individual writing down what he's saying. It could be his final days of his life as he is dying, and his memoirs are his way of preserving the spirit and memories of the wild west.
