Don't Get Scammed!! Dominican Republic 27 waterfalls of Damajagua on a budget!!

Come with me on this adventure and take the long walk up to the Damajagua waterfalls as we jump and slide down the falls then have a very inexpensive $5 provided lunch at the end of our journey. Be sure to see what the cost is at the falls for entry so you can save money instead of the $60-$80 rates provided at local hotels or from the cruise ships. These falls are known as Puerto Plata’s crown jewel attraction and it offers visitors from around the world a fantastic day of hiking through a beautiful tropical forest, crossing natural footbridges and passing numerous types of Dominican wildlife before eventually reaching the top where you will begin making your way down by swimming in mysterious caves, jumping or sliding down a series of limestone rock slides and waterfalls! The tour guides we had, Charlie and Omega, are both very professional and have your safety in mind at all times. Charlie was great at speaking English and made it very entertaining as we walked up the hill for 45 minutes or as they call it "5 Dominican Minutes". The hike is not very demanding but does take some time and effort to get to the falls. At the end of the video you can see the buffet lunch provided for only $5 USD per person.

Thanks to you, we save hundreds by taking a taxi and paying only 14$ each there (water shoes included), instead of booking with the cruise line. We had so much fun, my teenagers loved it! It was the hightlight of their cruise. We even had the same guide, Charly!

@@Potsnu We did negociate for 100$ round trip for 6 people. Our driver was very helpful and he waited there for us while we did the waterfalls, so we could leave our bags in the taxi. You only pay the driver when you are back to the ship. We felt very safe.

Thank you for sharing this video. Normally I do private tours/excursion, never from the cruise. But based on everything I know about the Waterfalls, I can just get a taxi and pay my own admission and they will provide a guided tour free of charge. Seems like huge savings from private tours! How long did you have to wait before you get assigned a guide and start the tour? How much was taxi? Thank you!

The wait was 15 minutes from buying the ticket to starting the hike up. I had a local friend that drove us but it’s not far from the port so taxi can’t be that much.

This is a newer GoPro I was using and they are waterproof without a additional cover.

Great video! This is exactly what I am looking for! Thanks for sharing! I am going there in 2 weeks. A few questions: 1) How many waterfalls did you visit? I am thinking of seeing all 27 of them. How many hours would that take? 2) Do they mark the number of waterfalls? 3)I am going to drive a rental car. Have you heard anything about the safety of parking there? 4) Do the lower 7 waterfalls get crowded since that's all tours would visit? 5) Do they accept credit cards or cash only? Thanks! P.S. My only concern is the waterfall will not be opened on the Christmas Day

@rw797 you are guided through the adventure and they take you down the river as seen in the video. One waterfall at a time but some of them we were allowed to do multiple times if you are willing to walk back up.

@rw797 3) I would NEVER rent a car in the DR because it’s the most dangerous place to drive. I have been to many places but the people here drive insanely. Even those on motorcycles. When you visit you will see and be glad you didn’t rent. Trust me!!!!!

@rw797 answer 4) the tours are guided and flow through. When we went you can see in the video how the last few waterfalls are. Most people want to slow down at the end to stay in the water just a bit more before it’s over.

They do accept both dollars, Dominican pesos and credit cards at the park but I recommend using cash everywhere in the DR. I would not trust CC information being hacked

for the Ziplines in there do you book with the person at reception desk or is it thru a 3rd party tour? we would like to do the 27 falls plus the ziplines how do you contact Damajagua directly? i cannot find any direct number to them. thanks!

Hi. You can book everything at the front because you don’t need a third party tour to enjoy the park. There is parking if you are renting a car too.

How long does it take to get to the waterfall park....and what was the total time spent inside the park including the gearing up hiking, and the buffet lunch ? thanks

Time to get there depends on where you are coming from and what time you’re going. The walk up was about 45 minutes long. Gearing up depends on your group because all you need to do is put on a helmet and put the things you don’t want to take with you in a locker provided to you at the bottom. When you arrive back down from the waterfall the food is ready so depending on how much time you want to spend on eating. The journey down is the best part and you get chances to jump from the waterfalls multiple times as seen in the video.

How long did it take you to do the hike/swim? Is it pretty challenging or intermediate? We’re going there in a few months. Is there an option to zip line or you have to book that through the cruise? My hubby wants to zip line and I’d rather hike. 😅

I would say it’s intermediate. The walk was about 30 Dominican minutes 😁 the swim was well worth the walk.

It’s because the cruises provide transportation from the ship and back. They also guarantee you will be back before the ship leaves if you book with them. I took a Moto Taxi to and from the location myself.

Taxi from port was $18 round trip. The driver either waited or came back when the tour was over.

You can call the location direct and ask the cost at the gate and how many waterfalls are open

Calling tour operators work a scam is not correct. I do take tours on my own sometimes but the services rendered by tour operators are more professional, I would say ask about the differences in transportation, food, drinks, guides, etc and what other value some add. Aside from a few bad apples most tour operators in the area are decent.
