People need to understand without the first steps in robotics, without the first steps in electric vehicles, without the first steps of solar power, there is no possibility of a future where these things are fully fleshed out and useful. I truly believe Elon has this in mind when he designs things. When the original tesla came put he flat out said “if you want a luxury car that is going to last for 20 years this is not the car for you” exposing his business model. Over promise, under deliver, but laying the foundation for a better future. Imagine a significant advancement in battery technology, imagine if we manage to create superconductors that can be used at sea level at 70°, imagine if we use AI to create a new type of metal that changes the way we build things forever because of the abundance of the materials used. Without these first steps there is no running.

The "I love Elon, the real life ironman" group, have to realize they created this expectation, imagine if ironman walked like that though. "tony stark build this in a cave with primitive tools in a month", please don't compare Elon (who never had a blister in his life) to tony stark, he's paying his people a lot for copying the real innovators as fast as they can.

Boston doesn't make autonomous robots. Boston programs in particular movements. They don't have half the tech this bot does despite moving much more fluidly (albeit within very specific conditions)
@denjamin2633
@denjamin2633 21 минут бұрын
Boston Dynamics took decades of work and their robots cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Tesla, Agility, Unitree and other bots cost thousands and took years. I went from mild interest in ai and robotics to closely watching every advance after seeing a robot, Unitree, I think, that had the quad/bipedal wheeled robot navigating around quickly, that was trained on simulations. When I saw that they caught up to BD's decades of effort with a few month long training run it was obvious that things were going to advance very fast. The Tesla bots in this video are already walking about twice as fast as before, and model 3 will be even better.

Call me speptical but I am not seeing "quick real time decisions" at least not in a dynamic environement with humans and robots. Sure being able to navigate new, realitively static environments is nice for scaling data. But we did not see this bot react to anything unexpected, it basically just walked around people and things that remained in one place.

@@williamr9833 What is vast is the difference between these objectives. Airal unmanned combat is a vastly different environment than navigating land based bipedal obstructions. @@williamr9833 I appreciate your point. I just don't agree we are talking about the same level of complexity from a cost benefit analysis. Where one actually rewards destruction and loss of life as part of being efficient, and the other must contend with the most efficiency without those things.

@@memegazer Yeah their are differences but just look at the 100's of billions of govt and private spending going into ai infrastructure if it can't do it now which i think is highly unlikely considering all the international agreements popping up it will be able to very soon. It's not just about walking, its also about doing enough useful things to make the robot worth the price . And without injuring you, your family and your dog. And at an affordable price. And without breaking down. Some early adopters will pay through the nose for basically cool toys at first. Some companies will pay for specially trained robots for their business. For average Joe home use, a practical and affordable robot is probably more than a decade away.

Exactly people can’t afford houses so the people that can’t afford houses they’re smaller houses let’s justification for a robot and then if you have stairs, do you want a robot going up your stairs and then the kids underneath its feet or it’s a bottom and it falls down and kills the kid? I think we actually reach the point in humanity. The technology is now heading downward as far as usefulness for every day life.

@@isaakloewen5172 I was an earlier adopter of digital cameras. My first camera was mostly a gimmick though. It was really expensive. It used floppy disk which had limited space It was slow taking pictures The battery didn't last long. And pictures were grainy. It would be around another decade or so before digital cameras became mainstream and a legit replacement for film. At the time I showed it to a relative of mine who happened to own a chain of 1 hour photo stores. Years later he told me after he saw the camera he decided to sell his business and get into real estate development. It's only a matter of time before general purpose consumer robots show up but it will take time to get there. The "improvement" on teslabot walking capability is undermined by the fact that the video is speeded up to make it look like they are walking at acceptable speed. If you look at the video, the humans in the videos are clearly moving at an abnormal fast speed. Video portions where the humans are moving at normal speed show the teslabot moving at much slower speeds. When the teslabot appears to be moving normal, the humans are moving at abnormal accelerated speed. It is again just video trickery to make it look like the bot is doinng much better than it actually is. Why do they take us for fools and think they can fool us. Also notice that every surface the bot walks on is perfectly flat, not a real world situation.

i like what im seeing. walking with straight knees is almost there. stair climbing. if everything is autonomous and runs locally that is impressive. for the stairs it seems to hit the next step with the tip of the foot deliberately to find out the shape. i think that has to be done differently ultimately, but its a start. we dont see it go down the stairs for the same reason probably: because it cant figure out the exact step position just with the camera. what about pressure sensors in the soles of the feet similar to what we have seen in the finger tips when it grabed the egg? that should allow it to get more precise information where the edge of step is, it is currently on. and from there plus a model of the environment plus knowing where its limbs are it should be able to make a good guess where the next step is. of course it needs a ball of the foot and a toe section it can stand on even when the heel is in the air. that would make everything so much easier.

cant really trust any media created by the company itself , requires third party eval , like the darpa robot challenge . seeing it with the safety rope attached while doing a simple task like handing out bottles shows they have zero confidence in its capabilities and that it is fragile . its worthless to show two examples of walking up well lit clean stairs , what matters is how many times it is successful walking up different stairs in all sorts of conditions and how bad is it damaged when it falls . this is not scientific evaluation it is an advertisement .

This makes more sence, the robot brain running on a computer and the robot being hollow so you need to charge less and can do more work, better battery life, and the computing power could be in your smartphone maybe and the robot next to you conectet by fast wifi.... and we dont need a super powerful robot just the basics... the IA software could be open source and free but the hardware for robots is free of patent now, the sensors, the motors everything is free, soon anyone could buy the parts to build a robot that do plastic cirgury, or cook robot.... if i where a big investors, i would invest in robot parts, because software open always win, android is the big winner, and robot parts and materials will skyrocket the moment we get functional humanoid robots, teenager robots waifus destroying marriages... billon industry.

Human like robots is in the core stupid, why make it human like? It is just for pr. Make it so it fits the purpose of what it is suppose to do. There is no point, other than maybe social interactions to have it human like. There is absolutely no need functionally to have it look like a human. We have autonomous mowers, it is 100 times better to improve the ai of the autonomous mower etc instead of having a regular mower that a human like robot shall drag around. Or like in this video, the robot is giving out drinks and snacks (let say that is not fake). Well, that is a vending machine. Why do it need to be a human like robot for that? I for one will cheer on humans like those from the sidelines because without them there would be no air travel, cell phones, internet, cars and the list goes on.
