I really have always hated the fact that they made her healing the main focus and where she was the best at and just good at water bending when it should’ve been where she was best at both healing AND waterbending(fighting) Like how katara was. I'm so glad to hear that Kya had some resentment towards Aang with all that because I am freaking tired of always hearing that the main characters after they become parents, that main character whose a parent is always down to earth and heart to heart with their children all the time and seem to do absolutely no wrong and tired of hearing that bad guys who are parents are always awful and abusive; that shit is getting old. I am glad to see the father Aang has become. Besides, it would be no surprise that Aang ended up as the father he did; he had a child who was an airbender and since his people were killed and his culture had pretty much gone instinct, it would be no surprise that he would focus his attention on an air bending child to ensure his culture had survived in this world. Not all main characters who are the good guys should always be written off as perfect down to earth parents, people. Fight me on this!

I don’t understand why everyone seems to be so sure she isn’t a fighter, she is a true well rounded master here. She became famous around the world for her healing, but she is likely in her 60s; she could have had a career as an epic pirate for all we know, being just as combatively competent as her mother Katara was in her prime. We know little to nothing about what she did in her prime years long ago. Also nearly 20 years ago whatever career she had established ended when she was the sibling who voluntarily took on the responsibility of caring for her grieving mother when Aang died, she hasn’t had the need to really use much combat since at least that point in her life. Tenzin’s comment about her “needing to settle down at some point” might hint that she was adventuring just like her own mother and father had.

Ever since I was 13, I always get pissed of when people get pissy with their parents for not spending time with them and more time with their work. I've been there and I was never mad. The parents had a responsibility to that job before and after that child was born; you can't get out of it. My parents did the same thing and I'm okay with that. I understand why they have to do that. Besides, they pretty much prove that they love e just by being there and doing that job. I had to be supported somehow didn't I? I can't stand people who are so salty to their parents just because they focus on their work.

You have to understand, not everyone is fully self sufficient as children. There are people who need and want nourishment and it’s completely normal and understandable. Just because you felt that you didn’t need your parents doesn’t mean that everyone doesn’t. More specifically, in Kya’s case, Aang spent more time with Tenzin than with her and Bumi, which further added to her lack of attention and parental care. Not everyone is like you, and people do care when their parents don’t pay attention.

One day when I was 11, she told me that how can she buy things for me if she doesn’t do her job. When I was 13 I finally got over it and understood her duties. As a child, I understand people wanting their parents, but as a teenager it’s time to grow up and get over it. The kid wants their parents to understand them? The first thing you should do is understand your own parents.

It wasn't just a matter of their dad focusing on his work. His 'work' mainly involved favoring his youngest son Tenzin and focusing on training him simply because he was an air bender.
