This was the period when BTS considered disbanding, when Suga wrote Outro Tear, when they all cried through their heartaches and their fears of separation - how they must have struggled immensely during this very very tough and dark time. I appreciate you guys continuing to react to this series. I feel like the BTS that we know of today is again going through a similar but somewhat different struggle at the moment. Their fame really exploded in the west after Dynamite and I sometimes feel like their journey after 2020 is very similar to the initial hardships they faced in their careers. Like the media and the industry not taking them seriously, accusing them of this and that, other kpop fans being incredibly hateful towards them, the general disdain towards them from the public etc. The difference is, back then, the hate was contained within South Korea, but this time, it's spread all over the world. On top of that, some South Korean politicians have also been using BTS for their own gains. They were dangling the idea of exemption in front of BTS, while never giving a proper response to them. BTS were announced as the ambassadors of World Expo 2030 and they even held a free concert in support of Busan's bid. But it wasn't "free" for BTS as HYBE had to pay part of the expenses of the concert. I still don't understand why HYBE had to pay for a concert that would benefit the city of Busan, but wouldn't bring a single penny to BTS or HYBE. So all things considered, I cannot imagine the kind of pressure BTS is under. But BTS has always done things their own way. They don't follow the trend. The fact that they announced their enlistment two days after the Busan concert without waiting for the politicians to play more of their games is proof of this. I believe that they will find a way through their current struggles just as they have done in the past. I have immense trust in them as individuals and as a group. I cannot wait to see what they do in the future.

As an ARMY who was a fan during that time, what was really sad was that we had no clue they were going through that at the time. This period was when they were also having early discussions to resign their contracts or not with BigHit and they were going over the possibility of not re-signing once their contract ended in 2020 (they resigned early, in 2018. It ends in 2027, by the way, so they’d have to resign again or not before then.) We didn’t know this until Jin revealed it during the 2018 MAMA Artist of the Year speech months later. And he said it super spontaneously, too, and even got privately scolded by the members afterwards for it. But he was just saying the truth of how bad the pressure had been for them, enough to really consider the longevity of their team in terms of their mental health. And then that video log of Jimin explaining his feelings - he filmed that in April 2018 but it wasn’t released until 2019, long after those feelings had passed. So, none of us knew at the time. But I succinctly remember that from January to April of 2018, BTS were very quiet. They held fanmeetings and were filming Run BTS, but until that time they’d been in the public eye every other day with content every day, but those few months were very quiet for them, so it was noticeable. We just thought they were working on their comeback (which they were), but it was a lot more than that, which of course we later found out why.

2018 was one of the hardest years for bts and army. besides them going through all of this in silence this was when death threats were happening almost daily for different members for no reason and worst of all bts got used as political agenda between korea and Japan. korea requested that japan compensated korea because of the things japan did to korea during japanese colonialism. japan was angry and during this time kpop stans decided to target bts. they sent how a member wore a t shirt celebrating the independence of Korea that MANY korean celebrities have worn in the past and after this incident. it got brought to the forefront of Japanese media. koreans have every right to celebrate their independence and end of colonization of their people. Japan saw this as a celebration of pearl harbor so they publicly blasted bts all over Japanese media making it dangerous for bts to go to Japan the threats they received before this were internet trolls now though the threats they received from Japanese people were very real telling them they would kill them if they came to Japan. Japanese armys pleaded with bts to not come to Japan but bts couldnt live in fear and couldnt cancel their tour or fan meetings so they still went. it is frowned upon for Japanese fans of anyone to go to airports but Japanese armys went and silently stood there to support bts as bts walked through the airport in videos you can tell bts were terrified and emotional that Japanese armys would go there to support them knowing they risked getting in trouble. Japanese armys schools were also threatened their people called them traitors for continuing to support them. you have to understand the people who were threatening them are basically Japanese nazi's. people who wished koreans were exterminated during world war 2 and wanted koreans to suffer. it wasnt until korean armys got together from all over the world (ones who lived in korea and ones who were doing translation work and lived overseas) they created a website where global people could learn about the truth of what japanese military did to korea as well as many other asian countries. this made japan drop the bts issue cause they knew they were wrong not only for targeting bts but for trying to hide what they did instead of just apologizing and trying to make things better between the countries. i suggest looking up comfort women and the white paper project to understand what japan did as we as americans/western people dont know enough since some things were never translated into english. some parts of history were buried not just in this situation but a lot of countries history that we know of or learned about in our school system isnt the entire truth or may not have even been taught to us due to it never being translated into english. bts suffered so much over the years but 2018 was one of the worst years its no wonder they thought of disbanding the fact they continued and became even closer just shows how brave and amazing they are in every way.

You might have already heard, and I hate to bring sad news, but the creator of The Rise of Bangtan channel has decided to delete all of the content on the TRoB channel and will not be completing the series going forward. The explanation as to why is on TRoB community posts and the instagram if you want to know more. Thank you again for your genuine and fun reactions to this series, but it is sad to see it end. Wishing the best to you and all armys and new armys alike who are affected by this news. Regardless, I have to send my eternal thanks to the creator of this masterpiece series for her work and effort thus far, it is beloved and appreciated by so many, and I respect her decision going forward as I am sure a lot of thought must have went into this decision.
