Oh gosh that sounds like such an awful experience to go through though! And in all fairness to your past self, while knowing they were sketchy I’ve heard a few people say they didn’t used to be and it only got worse during the pandemic - you couldn’t have known. I’m glad you’re going to be able to get both now though! ❤️

Oh man, thats crazy!! Feel your pain on scummy sellers though, I ordered a One Piece resin off ebay, vetted out the seller and had good reviews. Covid hit, they kept telling me to wait and Ebay deleted the purchase history with half the correspondence 😂 7 months after I was meant to get my order, I battled to get my money back. Ebay did not help, PayPal did not help, but luckily I paid on my credit card so my bank got my money back 🙌 Never going to ebay again!!

Never hesitate on pre-ordering anime figures. I pre-ordered a new Felicia (Darkstalkers) statue from BiginJap. It's not released until September, but pre-orders are long sold out.

I'm really saddened by your story and what you've been through, that's a real nightmare for every pre-order in general! Luckily you managed to get your two desired figures from a trusted shop and I feel relieved because of that and very happy for you! The first figure I bought was Kotobikiya's Raphtalia 1/7th scale on the aftermarket for around 400$. A few months later they had a rerelease at 120$. Big regret.

Ugh, yeah, I lost Medicos Revy (special extra face), but luckily it was pay later... but by that point, I think orders were closed for the special edition... fast forward to Jan this year, GSC has yet to send me an order, which included the Myethos [A-Z] S... tl;dr, only then, a year after the original release, do they tell me "oh, they're damaged, so we can't ship it to you... here's a refund!"... so, I had to pay over $230 after market for a figure I should have gotten for under $130... refund my ass... >.

Homura and hikari are cool but I more interested in the nia blade figure that coming out next year so I pre order her, sucks what happen to you, 700 u could have gotten both of a Japanese seller on eBay without paying expensive shipping and gotten them quicker

Why do i see these same figures on ebay for prices ranging from $30-$80? Yeah they're used, but does a open boxed figure or a boxless figure really lower that much in value? I'm thinking about getting it.

Those are 99% bootlegs. Please don't buy them. Any legitimate versions of these should be close to $200 at least.

Damn that was defiantly a rollercoaster. Just glad that you where able to get them. I ended up getting both of them through nin-nin during the second wave luckily. Kind of wish i went with amiami since they were a little cheaper...but sometimes their shipping is more to the US compared to nin-nin.

This is why Nin nin is superior lol. But here’s mine, I needed an Emilia Nendoroid for my Re: Zero nendo collection and was desperate so I bought off of Amazon US for $90. They sent me a smashed pack of dried macaroni so I returned it snd filed a complaint. I eventually got my Emilia Nendoroid like I was supposed to and thought things were good. Nope! A few months later, Amazon charged me because apparently, the seller didn’t receive anything and I didn’t have proof that I sent it back(forgot to keep tracking number) In the end, I paid $180 for an Emilia Nendoroid and looking at her now, I can’t be fully satisfied:(

I've noticed that many figures tend to bin very hard nowadays. And where I live, in Germany it's still possible to get decent pre-owned deals. So, nowadays I would only pre-order when I *really* want to get the figure, which also has become rare to be honest. The extra hassles, like waiting forever, huge VAT, and uncertainty about exchange rates and dates really make pre-ordering nerve-wracking and not worth it for me most of the time. And many comments here seem to be confirming that the figures lost a lot of their value, which also really sucks when you jump through all these hoops to be left only somewhat satisfied with your decisions...

As soon as you mentionned Nippon Yasan, I realised where it was going... Always trustworthy, never had any problem. Covid striked, and the po I had with them, were never fullfilled despite the money taken Senko nendoroid,and miku symphony 2021 nendoroid...gone forever. Especially senko...I wish so much for a rerelease

I went through this with the Nia figure (luckily I got her from Solaris Japan for a bit extra). What I learned though always pre order you can always cancel (I use Good Smile and have no issues with canceling so yea) rather cancel them then regret not pre ordering.

I only bought 2 items from Nippon Yassan from 2018 both we're limited too, Koto's Lillie with Clefairy and the Pokeball collection 02. Luckily they were not scamming everyone back then. They usually my last resort when I missed a pre-order and was always hesitant to order because they usually have higher prices compared to ami-ami and Mandarake (I guess that was a blessing in disguise) Fast forward to 2022 When I heard about what is happening to Nippon Yasan and was shocked since I never had a bad experience with them, their CS always replied too back on 2018. So I'm curious to know what really happened to them to suddenly just vanish. Anyway happy you finally got your grails!

A bittersweet ending. Interesting to see these two weren't only special for me. I actualy paid double the price back in october-november 2019 for both, i magically ordered Mythra on amico's preowned section and Pyra...on nippon-yasan, yeah. But at that point they still shipped orders so i got her quickly before the pandemic started. Even if i know now that i could get them at retail price one year later i still considering myself lucky.

Glad your final goal is close to being accomplished. I remember almost paying double for the Fate Jeanne Alter figure by Alter. I held off for the longest time because of the price and they finally announced another wave. Ordered her right away even if I won’t see her till 2023. I have learned that figures that are on the bucket list should be preordered on a credit card, the initial sting of paying it might hurt but it’s way worse suffering with ridiculous secondary market prices after.

This is an old video, but I got both for $300 (excluding taxes and shipping). I was astonished how cheap and good quality they are (compared to many overpriced one). How come you found them both for $700? I got mine from AmiAmi

I paid 20k yen each for them so about $130 USD / $190 AUD with the current exchange rate. When I preordered (and prepaid) for them in 2020 the exchange rate to AUD was the worst it had been in 15 years. So ended up being like an extra hundred each compared to today's exchange rate. I also bought mine from AmiAmi (after the Nippon Yasan blunder)

So Nippon Yasan became Nin-nin games? Because I have purchased two figures from Nin-nin and didn’t have any issues (and the price on their website includes taxes, making them really cheap). But I will be more skeptical in the future.

@@Softlol no. Nippon Yasan has nothing to do with Nin Nin Game. Also figure prices have heavily inflated over the last 5 or so years. Re-issues however are usually the same as the original price. I feel like they were still relatively expensive when they first released.

My biggest regret regarding my collection is pre-ordering Aniplex devil Homura in 2017 for like 16k yen and later cancelling my pre order. Well I still very much regret it until this day and now her aftermarket price is about 450$. But I learned from my mistakes, preordered Homura’s bunny on the first day, didn’t want to search it for triple the price on the aftermarket.

Even though when a figure has its pre-order closed and you want it, hope is not lost as when the figure releases, there will always be people that will cancel their order. This means that you can buy the figure the month of its release and get it really fast, you just have to check out opportunities. I already did that for 3 figures, Ningguang, Mythra and Theresa from Honkai.

Yeah, you really need to bookmark the things you wan't on amiami, because sometime someone cancel their order and you can be very lucky, this is why a check everyday for some of the goodies on this site ! That royally sucks! Reminds me of the time, back when I was a young and green figure collector, I foolishly preordered a figure on eBay for around $250. Even though I was pretty cautious of my seller choices (the seller was from Japan and had 100% positive feedback) in the end the PayPal time period passed and I was unable to even file a claim. Never got that figure and I was absolutely crushed. It's been long enough now that I don't even remember what that figure was. I think my mind just decided to push that unpleasant memory back into the abyss.
