In all honesty I can see Andy’s point of not living in the past or reliving the past but from a fans perspective I think it was a bit selfish on his part. I mean the show is popular far beyond its 8 year run. It’s been popular for generations. It’s a part of Americana that can and is children, parents, and grandparents and so on. For a man that has so many fans of his work or creation, I think he could or would be willing to give something back to them

Becuz after all by his own admission , the town of Mayberry was fashioned after his own hometown of Mount Airey N.C. and so was the local Sheriff .At least to a limited degree . For what it's worth looking back on the situation with 20/20 hindsight , it wouldn't have hurt nothing for him to show up at these Mayberry autograph events dressed up in character and at least to a limited degree for him and everybody else to address their fans (in character) . Heck , that's what makes events like these such a joy to attend 🤗 .

I got to work for her for a few days as a CNA as she was recovering from surgery back in I think it was 2018. I live in pilot mountain and she needed help for about a week or so. She is a very sweet lady

Thanks Bob for this AGS F & T segment. As much as I can appreciate what Andy’s true feelings on fan conventions and gatherings were, performers have to realize the folks that are still watching the show and those that put these conventions and gatherings together most likely were part of those who watched the show while it was airing on a weekly basis and help make the show a success in the ratings. I love Andy and the whole cast and always will. Great segment Bob.

I think fans often forget the actor is not the character and therefore can be disappointed when meeting the actor. I remember reading an article where Andy Griffith said he was more like his character in A Face in The Crowd than Andy Taylor. By not attending the conventions he may have felt he was saving the fans from disappointment.

He was great as norm, but saw him on uk version of 'whose line is it anyway' and his him improv skills (at least that day) were not so good

It's pretty well known that both he and Don Knotts committed to spending 5 years on the show. Knotts left after 5 years, but Andy stayed the whole way. You have to give him that.

`It would have been nice to meet him. But a lot of fans might have been disappointed too. Did anyone ask him for legal advice after he played Matlock? Star Trek conventions allowed some of the actors to make extra income. That's one of the few places you'll get an autograph from William Shatner. Of course, you have to pay for the privilege. One of my biggest disappointments with Mayberry Man was not using actual actors from the series. Some were still alive at the time. I couldn't picture Frances Bavier and a few others doing conventions either.

Andy Griffith was nothing like Andy Taylor. He didn’t like meeting fans because the fans didn’t know him, Andy Griffith. They knew Andy Taylor and that’s who they wanted to meet. It doesn’t work that way. He was always a private person anyway. I get it.
