@@_sketchbender_4145 that probably isn't the point he's tryin' to say, it's not like animation studios just cares for the money and not their fans which makes the anime itself popular and gives them funds. Crunchyroll, funanimation, netflix and other Legal anime streaming sites just doesn't cover that much of anime to begin with. Can't blame that most otakus and weebs watches them on a pirated site tbh. If anything, those legal streaming sites should up their game especially that anime has become huge worldwide now. By this, there will be more subscribers to their sites in no time while also supporting animation studios like here in the video at the same time.

I know it's really hard. They're so creative and can make a still image feel like it already has movement even though it's just a drawing. These people are true artists.

I mean, they appear pretty happy, I’m still good skeptical about the whole “Japan under paying animators “then because it tends to be said going along with a bunch of other misnomers to paint Japan in a bad picture, and then it’s not any worse than European countries and American countries like the US and Canada. In fact there’s a lot of things that are better in Japan, For example art and free-speech are a lot more appreciated there. That’s why there’s so many obscure and often times worrying anime titles, not because that’s some thing that is appreciated by the people as a whole, but because people somewhere in Japan appreciate it, and it’s not the right for other people outside of that niche to judge it.

It's not just that. I've been working on Anime Conventions in Germany for almost 20 Years now and i met and talked to a lot of mangaka and Anime Producers over the Years. Most of them are amazed at the number of Fans outsite of Japan because they are not involed with the publication and Licensing at all. They get paid per volume and thats it. Also they don't really search for reactions from outside of Japan, as most of them don't understand English, German or any other Langauge. Higuri You was a total exception from all this though. she was very excited when we invited her here in 2004. In fact she came to Europe quite a few times after that. Still, your not wrong about the "closed off" part. that too is a big factor.

@@Psychoseek I agree, this was also my experience while doing some guest relation work at german anime conventions and talking with anime and manga producers in Japan. They usually know that there are translations of their anime or manga in other languages, but they are mostly totaIly unaware of how big their non-japanese fanbase is (notable exceptions are big names such as Akemi Takada who have visited several western and asian conventions for more than two decades now). I think it's mostly due to the language barrier and also the lack of time to look up/keep up relations with the non-japanese fanbase.

That's because that's more of the publisher's job to publish their works outside of Japan not a studio. Anime is domestic first and foremost and a studio's job is to make it so that they get to adapt the source in a way that's satisfying to the domestic base, hence why you get anime that most of Japan likes (isekai, moe, idols etc...) than what the international audience wants. Then that stuff get's handed over to TV broadcasters and publishers both domestic and abroad. So it's not really in their scope of work, and that most workers speak only Japanese so they only interact with them either for recruitment from the studio or via their pixiv / twitter pages for general fanart.

I am always so amazed at fans who shout "SEASON TWO" the day the last episode airs. There are so many factors that contribute to renewing or not renewing a season. First, profit gets ignored all the time, if the anime didn't make money, no one is going to invest in a season two. Not enough materials for season two or enough materials but lacks the good composition it needs in an animation format. Time and effort, people have to actually draw everything, it is not whisked together in three seconds.

They probably were working on something new at the time, but when they show the DITF material, the statement says that it's for *illustrative* purposes. Studios don't reveal the actual work until the right time and they have the permission to do it (as Mr. Shimizu stated in the interview), or they could hype the fans in vain if the project is canceled for any reason, or even could face legal actions from the publisher. I truly hope you are right but with a google search I found the median per year is about 1,478.62€. (Sticking to your currency) Obviously it's hard to get an exact price as it's a big industry and animators are usually paid per page. The first article that pops up in a google search is Kotaku from 2017 entitled, "Make Anime in Japan, Get a Shitty salary. " A youtuber I enjoy called the canipa effect talks about wages in his video, "The NPO Animator Supporters Project And Aiding The Industry. " Also talks about how under paid they are. This underpaying started with Osamu Tezuka resorting to it so he could get Astro boy off the ground and compete with American cartoons in Japan. Unfortunately the Japanese have a very humbly mindset and many have stuck to the tradition of not paying well as they felt that if Tezuka was only worth X amount they were less. I apologize for such the long response but I once was passionate for Animating and it's history.
