I'm gonna be the first and probably the last to say this, but I'm kind of glad this was outtaken; save for the difference in guitar quality the added bit from 1:37 onwards and especially from 2:17 to 2:35 cause it to lose a lot of the relentlessness it originally had with a minute of random guitar and electronic piano. With that said, I love the bit from 2:35 back to the start of the loop, so it's not entirely bad (not bad at all, actually, but surely you see where I'm coming from), but it's just the minute or so after the main song finishes and the outtake part begins that ruins it for me. It's nice to listen to, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't have the relentless and struggling feeling that the short, repetitive nature of the track brings, which is fairly common with FOE themes in Etrian Odyssey.

The 'random' guitar and electronic piano isn't exactly random, it's a solo alright.

I agree with you on most of your points, but I see things a little differently. The first part of the song it shares with the original is perfect for when you get caught when they're a threat. Traversing the labyrinth, screwing up a puzzle, or being reckless in general. That sinking feeling, that maybe it's much stronger than you could ever handle, not knowing whether it'll flat out destroy you. The time when you have every party member press escape, your heart sinking each time the "___ has failed to escape!" message pops up. But then you get stronger. You get a request to go back, fight it, bring back proof you can. You enter the fight, the desperation still there. It's still strong, but now you are too. It won't flat out kill you, but it's no cakewalk. You can still feel the dread, the unease of hoping you can manage, but that feeling now mingles with a sense of calm. You can fight it now, and panicking isn't going to help. You pass the first 10-30 seconds of tension, and enter the outtake. And it's perfect for that feeling. Honestly for when you do fight the FOE's in full, I wish the song was longer. Great song, don't get me wrong, but the fights do tend to edge on the long side, and having a song that doesn't loop so quickly would be a blessing. If they had polished it up a little and included it along with the current theme, it would be beautiful.

i really dislike when video game players call solos and improvisation "random" bits of music, not the first time i read something among those lines. I LOVE when VGMs adds these bits, it adds a lot of personality and personal touch from the composer. @@TGEnigma

@@pedrozanon7245 he was responding one week wizard. but i will say that even though i VASTLY prefer this version, i do agree that it should've been an outtake rather than in the game. feels less fitting than the loop they provided somehow

I agree with you the solos seem off with the songs context. Went from a tense song about being in a fight you should run from to a normal battle theme that could easily be used for a normal mini boss. It's definitely the better version but the og fits way better for what it's for. The only way I would want to see this back into the game is if you get an F.O.E. down to 50% or 30% of their HP it switches to the outside version on the next loop or just cuts to the solos. Cause at that point the fight is way more under control and they know for sure they're probably going to win
