@@jamesvach6698 100%. I also noticed a significant contrast between the conversations of thugs from Origins vs the other games. In the other games(especially Asylum) they often genuinely sound like messed up and terrible people. In Origins they feel much more relatable, basically just poor guys trying to get by just like everyone else. The difference is rather than joining the military as a last resort like many of us do, their last resort is working for Crimelords like the Joker and Black Mask.

@@overlord6815 It was mentioned in Origins in the bio of one of Penguin's assistants that times were hard when she joined, presumably an economic downturn which forced her into working for Penguin. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about Tracy, I am talking about the other one Candy, I think her name was. So presumably a number of people turned to crime in order to feed themselves and their families. Crime has a tendency to be the occupation of last resort when nothing legal works. In addition, at the time Batman was thought of to be a myth so the criminals mostly still believed that they were invincible and above punishment from the law. People joining the winning team and all that. In Asylum and in particular other games, it seems as though the people involved are hardened and experienced criminals many of whom have committed terrible crimes. There are still those who seem to express some semblance of being human beings. An example would be in Asylum when Joker put the runoff and excess venom into the water to run into Gotham. One of them expressed concern that his mother lives where the water runoff is going, and he doesn't want her to get hurt. It is a curious contrast.

@@jamesvach6698 100% agree. It's a minor detail but Origins really did a good job of emphasizing how the story was the beginning for EVERYONE, not just Batman and the main villains. Even the grunts of Origins were overall a very different kind of people than in Asylum/City.

@@overlord6815 Very true, A number of Batman's supervillains as well as the more common grunts were not as well-established back then. Falcone was still in control while later games had him flee from Gotham and Black Mask was considered a crime kingpin before Joker appeared. He lost his throne and never regained it despite great efforts on his part. Likewise, the criminals were probably not as experienced, but as they gradually gained criminal records, they likely lost a good degree of their sense of morality. Crime like becoming a superhero seems to be something that is easy to get into and hard to get out of. Those who try to flee (guys looking through random crates) and establish their own name (the turkey man) find it hard to do so.

I like the Criminals who seemingly wanna go legit. It seems like Gotham forced them into the life they're in, and they're just doing it to support themselves or their loved ones. They don't dream of staying in a life where they're actively hurting their city by what they do. It makes me wanna break less of their bones :)

He was also the one who convinced Bill Finger and Bob Kane to keep the Joker alive after his first appearance in Batman #1 There's also the Sheldon Park that might be a reference to Sheldon Moldoff an artist on Batman during the 50's and 60's.

1:09:10 Something I love about this game that I wish they had in Arkham City was Gang Wars. Like, you could see Thugs from Different Gangs fighting over turf in this game. There is a straight-up Gang War in Arkham City yet you never see any of the Thugs Fighting. You see different Gangs in Different places and see a few that were taken prisoner by one Gang and you hear the thugs talk about it all the time, but you never see any actual fights between 2 Gangs. It would have been so cool to see some fights going on in the city.

It's a shame the devs didn't provide subtitles for these and that unlike in the other games, the dialogues get quieter the further away you are from the thugs. I missed pretty much all of them when the game came out because I wasn't skilled enough in English to pick them up by ear. But while replaying the game now I can see, or hear, the effort the put in those dialogues, as they are as interesting and funny as in the other games and also provide commentary to your actions throughout the story. And you've done an excellent job with this video!

It is a good game. The only thing was that to me the city felt a little bit more empty than arkham city, because the city was too big and not enough stuff in it to make it feel alive as it could've. But it was meant to be a smaller batman game made by a smaller team to shorten the wait between the main titles. But it's just a pet peeve, doesn't really matter Still a great batman game and a good story. Buy a ps3 and a copy of the game. They're cheap now.
