Fun fact! The band Bauhaus was on the set of the 83 film the Hunger and where performing as part of a scene, bowie, one of the stars, was also on set, and walked in on them practicing by playing Ziggy stardust. Bowie was so impressed he called his lawyer to hand them the rights to cover this song on the spot! Also, If you haven't seen the hunger, that movie is fucked up. Highly recommend if a erotic horror movie staring david bowie as a vampire is smth your interested in.

@@rhichan it absolutely would not be safe to assume that, at all. It is a carbon copy, done badly, of a live version from 1972. This is a horrid thing to have to listen to, if one has ears that is. Edit … This is a cheap effort to capture the essence of the original which was done, live, a decade before. Listen to the Bowie live performance if think this is acceptable. The phrasing, everything … even the breathing is copied. Maybe you’re not aware of this and am giving you the benefit of the doubt

I'll never prefer a cover over an original, not when it comes to Bowie. he wrote these songs, came from his head, his creativity and emotional unconscious from the writing to the delivery of the message. However I loved this cover, more than nirvana's one.

He had a lot of help. Mick Ronson deserves a lot of credit for the Bowie classics.

Peter Murphy channeling his inner Iggy Pop here. Criminal this only a million views. They crushed this. Sure DB was flattered and impressed.

One of the greatest covers of all time. They take this song up a notch. Bowie even said he wished this is how he recorded the song.

Bowie was known for his extremely considerate manners. He was always far too polite to _ever_ snub a sincere tribute. So I'd imagine that when he said that, inside he was thinking more like: "I wish this is how it had been mixed and mastered, mate. There, I said something nice! 'Never don't be nice when you're being quoted for all bloody eternity'-that's what me mum taught me!" (Yes, Bowie's thoughts frequently had exclamation points.)
