Ted, great way to share the creativity of your audience… this format is a “keeper” . Thanks & take care, Dan

Hi Ted, what a great way to showcase what to do with failure or mistakes. There's great potential in these "crisis" as we forces us to look at our work from a fresh perspective, it takes off our blinds and helps us approach things differently.

What needs to go hand-in hand with inspiration is motivation, and I don’t mean what pretentious actors are always asking to have explained to them. I get inspired with great - and not so great - ideas all the time, but finding the motivation to get off my arse to actually do them, or follow them through to the end, is another matter entirely. Conversely, when I’m not feeling inspired I will just go and do something and see if it will get the creative juices flowing.

If memory serves me right you did a video about not being perfect years ago, but yes glad you mentioned what one of the viewers who sent you his worked said "allowing myself to fail and try again" is part of growing in any form of Art. Glad you erased the video clip that pushed you to make an even better one. Thank you Ted Forbes for loving Photography and for this wonderful channel you created!

That part that caught my attention most, was finding something that leads to creative options. Then it's not the boring, same old, same old, anymore. I started a Facebrook group last week about "unusual" photography. I was hoping to get posts of something "unusual", be it subject, composition, perspective, post processing, etc. Anything goes.

Love this video, Ted! I come from a similar path. All of my formal schooling is in music (I'm a double bassist), but about 2 years ago I started my journey as a headshot and portrait photographer and recently launched a photography KZbin channel. Musicians make great photographers, I've been told! I thoroughly enjoy your insightful and thoughtful content.

Funny enough, I am here because I need inspiration outside from the travel/gear/day-to-day similar photography stuff I follow :) I bought a fuji ex-4 simply to take photos of the mundane and hopefully in that to improve the way I see light, composition, and to be inspired from the boring things in life.

Yes I love today’s episode. Thank you for going forward when stuff enters a fan. As a suggestion, a Squarespace tutorial would be kinda cool. I have one as well and am running into a few weird issues. Also I have ideas for the site, but not sure how to go about it. As you’re going through your site, it may assist our design journey Lastly, one of my favorite things you do is the mail haul. Seeing what everyone is working on is so inspiring (not that you aren’t). Keep doing your thing, Ted. Your channel keeps getting better.

Love this brother! And such a good topic. It's funny how people think of failure. It's nothing to be afraid of! It means your trying, and provides great learning points. And happy you didn't just do a quick knock out of the same video you did yesterday. Even not seeing it I can tell this is a much better video for the topic at hand! :)

Ooh, I really dig this format Ted. It is inspiring to see how others are getting their work put together and out into the world. Love the Chopin Noctournes. I come from a background in writing and a favorite quote about inspiration-maybe along the lines that Matt commented about-comes from William Faulkner, “I only write when inspiration strikes. Fortunately it strikes at nine every morning.”

Ted, I needed this video! I just found out that I am off work on Friday, and the weather is supposed to be decent, so I am looking forward to go outside and take some photos and videos, and hadn't really thought about the "what" I was going too shoot! I actually have a new lens that I bought this winter, but haven't used it outside yet, so I think I will take that out and get inspired!

This is funny I had a similar experience on micro level just this morning, loosing "my work", I was writing a very heartfelt and creative message and as I got close to the end my phone died and I lost the entire message, it was very complex and tied a number of ideas together in a creative way that came to me in the moment, and flowed, it all just came sequentially, it was a very inspired moment. When my phone powered up again I just didn't have the inspiration to try to recapture what took me nearly half an hour to write and refine and expand and tie together. All that said when it comes to inspiration it really can be the birthplace of increadible work, but, I think I love Chuck Close's quote best, I came across it for the first time when Christopher Neiman sighted it in a documentary oddly enough someone who knows a little bit about Abstraction aswell, but the quote he sighted wrang very true with me. I had heard Annie Leibovitz say as artists we sit around waiting for inspiration and I just had to dissagree, I mean I wish I could turn that on, but I think Chuck hit's the nail on the head, when he says " inspiration is for amateurs, The rest of is show up and get to work" that's really just a part of the quote but it's true. There have been times when I had work to do and I just wasn't feeling it, and I mean sometimes you really gotta feel it to get in that flow, but when I just pick up and get started I find as I begin to shift focus, those ellements and details of the work begin to shift your focus and even if you aren't scrambling to write down ideas that came to you in an epiphany and loving every minute of what you're doing, as you begin to get it in gear and get it rolling it's surprising how it starts to come together. You never know where those first steps take you and how intuition, experience begins to dirrect you as you begin to come in tune with the work, even when you don't have some bright shining star of inspiration to lead the way.

I loved the content of your video -- it was well inspired, and I especially liked the display of other's art that you showed and gave encouragement for, and the comparison of music and photography, two passions of mine as well. I had to slow the content down to 80% speed because your speaking pace is so fast and I began to feel overwhelmed with everything coming at me -- there's very little breathing room between thoughts (due to editing?) which allowed scant time to absorb what you were saying, before you were on to the next thought. Well worth seeing/hearing. Thank you!

I love the format Ted, your videos always inspire me to try out new things. I especially love how you introduce photographers art, since they always let me see thing from a different perspective. Similar to Alec Soth's YT Chanel, it would be cool if you could take a closer look at your viewers work (with their consent).

Success and failure are certainly a requirement to build one's own coherence but doesn't always match to the viewer's opinion. All this is under the iceberg and the public rarely cares about your sweating. So there's no way out enjoying the process.

To me personally, inspiration usually comes from a photographer who talks more on technique rather than the equipments because equipments are usually the things, one of the things that makes me less inspired to be better.
@antonroux67372 жыл бұрын
Anything that is talking about art and artists and methods or techniques is better than videos about equipment. Also when there are so called reviews about equipment they are only really useful or meaningful to the extent they compare in relation to other equipment. It’s great to hear about the Leica M11, but how do its images compare to Hasselblad X1DII or GFX100S, or any of the other full frame systems? This simply should not be ignored, otherwise it is tantamount to advertising. I suspect Leica may not be so keen on this given the price involved but it can be compared on price to compact medium format which is closer but still cheaper but I think you kind of owe it to your subscribers to be truthful and informative. Agree? So I would welcome a gear review or comparison that is genuinely helpful in that regard. I’m any case, opening mail videos are fine and an obvious way to show a level of engagement with your community

Everything has been photographed in every way and style. There is simply no room for further development. Today photography is all about copying and imitation of shots we have seen before next to many facts that photography lost its status anyways. I can‘t see new upcoming artists who can be compared to the big names of the past. Art market is all about shots from the past with a few exceptions like Gursky. Pro photographers struggle with income and amateurs are more into gear which keeps industry alive. „It‘s what I‘ve never seen before that I recognize“ D. Arbus. More or less, photography is dead.

I suggest you slow up your speech to approximately half your current rate. A lot of what you say appears to be incoherent babbling. If you want examples of excellent speakers, check out Enoch Powell (British 1960s parliamentarian) or John Howard (ex Australian prime minister) these two people are the finest examples of cogent orators. I'm sure you could become greatly improved with minimal effort and practice.
